The Teaser

This cat watched me approaching along the sidewalk for a long time and as I got closer it got up and walked towards me meowing all the time. I thought I was going to get a nice greeting but it walked right past me as if i didn't exist. What a tease!

Meet Merlin

This large cat was spotted in the window of what seems to be a very popular coffee cafe. I assume that Merlin must be the resident cat but I didn't go in to check that out.

No Photos Please

This ginger cat was all over me one day as I was out for a walk. She demanded to be petted and was running between my feet but as soon as I took out my camera she refused to look at me and proceeded to walk away. I tried everything but she didn't want her pic taken.

Neighbourhood Watch

This tiny kitten had been watching a squirrel in a nearby tree and then noticed me out of the corner of its eye and turned to pose nicely for this shot. The window could use a bit of work.

Descending Carefully

Last week for Saturday's Critters I showed this cat sitting innocently in a tree and I though I would show you what he had been up too before I took that pic. He had been really high up in this old Silver Maple tree attempting to grab a squirrel who has a nest up there. The squirrel easily jumped from branch to branch nattering away at he cat for the whole time. Kitty finally gave up and gingerly came down from the heights. He was lucky that the branch had a nice lean to it so he could walk down head first.

The Hunter

I watched this cat scamper up and down the large branches of this tree for several minutes as it stalked a squirrel. He was no match for a squirrel in a tree especially since the cat had a bell on its collar. When it looked over and saw me he seemed to be embarrassed and gave up the hunt and came down and walked away as if nothing had been going on.

Cat In The Shop

This lovely cat lives in an antique store and he usually sits by the window waiting for people to come in. With the Covid shutdown there are no shoppers entering non-essential stores so he is a bit lonely. When I passed by the cat was sitting in the middle of the shop looking at the door and as soon as I came near he jumped down and ran over and proceeded to rub his chin  on the handle of that wagon. Later when I passed by again he was once more sitting and staring at the door. A social creature cut off from people for a bit!

Closed

This cat is a fixture in the window of a local antique shop and is usually sitting up watching the world go by but on this day with the shop closed it was time for some sleep.

Cat Among Weird Things

While walking by this antique shop early in the morning I spotted the resident cat grooming itself in the sun. When I stopped the kitty threw itself onto the ground as if begging for a tummy rub. Too bad the shop was still closed!

Kitty

It is not just the dogs that can be found in BerczyPark that I have been showing you this week. There is the one cat on the edge of the fountain and if you look up at the top of this reflective utility box you can see another one. I think this kitty is looking for birds up in one of the 50 new trees that have been planted in this small park.

Cat In The Window

There is something wonderful about a cat in a store window. They get to watch the world go by and the world gets to see a friendly soul. This guy is probably about 2 years old now and lives in an antique store on Bathurst St. Usually he ignores me but this time he posed quite nicely! I like that white blaze on his nose.

Fresh Snow

We finally have snow and I always like to get out for a walk when it is fresh and before everyone has walked through it, but this time the cat who lives in this house has beaten me to it. You can see his trail going along the base of the fence and disappearing under the gate. Makes you wonder where he would have to go in that much snow! In summer he is often perched on top of this fence watching the world pass by.

Don't Fence Me In

This former feral cat has been adopted by a local family but although she will come in to eat, she doesn't like the door closed behind her so she is still sleeping outside. They have built a small shelter for her and I'm sure she will be toasty this winter with her thick fur. Isn't she pretty!
