My go-to stain combo that works every time- One thing I do before even getting started on staining: sand the wood I’m working on. Sanding is a key step you do not want to miss, as it helps remove the yellow layer that is in a lot of woods. I start with 120/150 grit and then move to 220 so it gets nice & smooth!  Once sanded, I apply Minwax Pre-Stain & wipe away any excess. This helps so the stain goes on evenly.
