Penn State has many logos, and one of the most popular is the Nittany Lion paw print. From face decals to sweatshirts, the paws are all over. Today, the logo features four little lion toes, but the paw has gone through various digit amputations and additions over the years.

UNLV has not had much success lately either on the basketball court or football field. So, the current administration's attempt to introduce a new graphic identity for its athletic teams was met with initial skepticism, then out-and-out hostility when it was unveiled. The scenario is familiar to Penn State which has been unable to unseat the aged, disparaged but strangely beloved "Chipmunk" logo which now is 34 years old and still hanging on.
