Its very hard to tell you the exact amount of pressure that needs to be applied.   A few simple steps can be really helpfull tho.  First and foremost, keep your clay slippery! I cannot stress that enough. Dry walls are recipe for disaster. 😅   The largest amount of clay that you will have to move is from the base of your pot. So pinch that clay and bring that up.   Try to keep your hands connected, specially when your pot is not too tall yet, it will help with keeping the finger position in place, with the same distance all the way up.
