The advertisements of the 1950s tended to direct all products associated with domestic chores to women, creating a way for society to reinforce its gender normative behavior through advertisements. The only method of advertising known to the ancients was the word of mouth.

Advertising guru Charles Saatchi has found a selection of adverts from the 1950s and 1960s which would today be considered offensive, sexist and in many cases, in poor taste
