Snow in North Texas

I know everyone has had tons of snow....but we did a record breaking of 12 inches!!
Moving from Kansas City, Mo. I thought these 'snow days' were over...lol
As you can see in the photo...that poor tree! We have since removed the snow on that lower branch. It has tons of berries...which is bad enough.

For those of you that have followed my blog for a while know that soon the ducks (3) will soon be flying into the pool. I have my calender marked for the 27 of Feb. to be on the 'look out'. Momma duck will try and lay her eggs in the ornamental grass or under the hedge...I Will TRY and shoo they away, as not to lay her eggs...but the babies are just soooo darn cute! *smile*

So Sad...

I don't know what happened...yesterday they had 4 out of the 10 eggs...today All were destroyed. Perhaps 'bad eggs' or perhaps something got to the eggs...anyways, I have a heavy heart. Silly. I know.

Where's the water!?!

(Click on pic for a larger view)
Poor Mr. Duck. He is so confused! Since we are working on a leak in the pool and having to drain it...Mr. Duck, not knowing just what to do... decided to land on the neighbors roof. I believe this may be the first time I have ever seen a DUCK on the ROOF. LOL

Miss Duck...

...is now sitting on at least 10 eggs. She started laying them around May 25th. Bless her heart, even with my Dh doing repair work on the swimming pool, all the noise of a jack hammer, she still feels safe being here. The years before she has been on the other side of the pool. But with us working 'near her space' she has decided the this side would be best. lol She is in an enclosed fenced in area, free from praetors.
If you click on DUCKS on the 'labels' area, scroll down and look at "Dog days of summer" photo you can get an idea where she is located in our back yard. Stay tune...more to come. *smile*

My back yard...

This morning having my coffee on the swing...I notice a pair of beady eyes...
See there...in the lower middle center of the photo...Ms. Duck!

Hear is a different angle...again, in the center.
Try as I might to keep them away, they know its safe here.

Mr. Duck...

...made what I think is his first appearance in the pool this AM. Just as fat and happy as can be.

I should have taken a picture...but I was too in a hurry to shoo him out....I forgot to grab my camera. No Ms. Duck. I even check in the box hedge to make sure she wasn't there.
For those of you new to my blog, we have had duck in our pool...uninvited you understand. But when I discover 'eggs' we allow her to stay on her nest. Mr. Duck gets shooed away.
Here are pics of them. I hate to say this, for its really bad to have them in the pool... but they are so darn cute.
Spring 2006 (she was nesting when we moved in)
13 babies
... Spring 2008 with only six babies this time.

Dog Days of Summer

This is the guest room. I did make the crochet trim and Romanian Point Lace and added to the window and door treatment just this week.
Our grandson that is visiting for 2 weeks. He and I have been enjoying the park across the street in the early mornings, mid-morning swim in the pool...the rest of the day we are indoors. Its HOT. All week its been in the 100 degree range. Great time to do the crochet trim for the guest room, while Austin is playing with his logos.

MISS DUCK!!
In this pic you can see (sort of) where Miss Duck has laid her eggs May 2009. On your right hand side, under the blue umbrella, is a patch of Fountain Grass next to the side walk. That is where she and her 10 eggs are!

Until next spring...NOT

Last night my wonderful husband built a ramp for the babies to get out of the pool. Didn't take them long to figure it out.

I called over the neighbor kids so they could share my excitement.

The gate was open, and what do you know....out they went. So....we followed them.

Hey, I had to make sure they could at least cross the street with out, well you know...

Stop traffic is what I did! One family even pulled over at a park to 'watch'. I guess she knew where she was taking them. I was told there is a creek nearby. One dear person saw me in the middle of the alley...notice what was going on and backed up and went around to get to his house! How special was that!

We went threw yards, down the alley and down sidewalks. Finally it was time to 'let them go'.

Big sigh. So, I did. Sort of. As I was walking backwards, (still watching them) I stop a car to ask them to be careful of the ducks...I told them what we were doing, and she too said, "yea, its hard but we have to let them go". I put them in Gods hands, (where they should be) and went back home.

I am very happy for my young friends next door. Thank you.

Now...what is going to happen to the 3 eggs left in the nest?

Oh what a sight!!!! So far, 6 babies!

Duck up date

See Ms Duck sneaking in the bush?

Well, really nothing to report on momma duck, other than is still 'sitting'. This morning I hand trimmed near her, getting out those oak tree seedlings. I saw her, said 'good morning' and left it at that. She trust me, but I won't push my luck getting too near her.

But...their are baby mocking birds in the crape Martel above her! Saw and heard them this morning...soooo cool!

To be continued....

The ducks...

Spring 2006
While I was away, a 'new' women decided to nest in our bushes. Yes, mother DUCK! Let me go back 2 years and tell you the story. When we moved to our new home much to our surprise a duck and 13 eggs where here. Since the pool was going to be drained and resurface, we had very little choice but to let her nest.
Well, one morning there she was in the pool with her 13 babies in tow! My DH made a ramp for them to get out of the pool. It took about 2 days, but the babies learned to 'follow' mom and off they went...out the back yard gate.

I will keep you up to date....so far no babies! Only 10 eggs!
