Nellie | Australian Modern Quilt Designer on Instagram: "I’ve had a few people ask why I stitch my binding in place before trimming my quilt, so I thought I’d share a few of the reasons here.   • By stitching the binding on first, I am stitching across all of the rows of quilting, reinforcing them before they’re trimmed • I can trim the quilt to whatever size I need to ensure I have a nice full binding  • The back of the quilt doesn’t ever get any tucks in it and always sits nice and flat • It fills my binding so that when finished, I can’t feel the finished edge of the quilt  I’ve been making quilts for over 30 years and this is the only method I have ever used or taught. I don’t ever have any problem with my quilts not being square because I make sure they’re square whilst making them.
