The Potters Shed • Pottery Classes in Adelaide on Instagram: "As requested, I wanted to show you the way I make closed forms.

It is a very effient technique to make pieces that need a lid.
This way you dont need to throw them in two parts, you can do it all in one.

One very important tip for thos type of shape is to leave some clay at the top to close your form, specially if you decide to make a round shape like that. You will need clay at the top to be able to close it and make the knob.

Its better to have a little bit more clay and take it off then to not have enough!

Happy potting everyone.

Ayla Mullen on Instagram: "Here's a glimpse into how I make choices about a developing form while throwing. Once the basic cylinder is thrown, with fairly even walls and most of the height I can get from the clay, I start to play with curves. Often what I have in my mind's eye ends up evolving once I'm playing in volumetric three dimensions. I take the time to step back and look at the form from a distance, to help me discern proportions, curvature, and what specific elements I want to adjust. In this video you can see me work through a few different rough shapes before settling on and refining the final form of this large vase. I am becoming increasingly less interested in making refined reels that show a 'perfect' making process, with only the most flawless pulls making the edit. Ashley Bergeron on Instagram: "Throwing a closed form jar. Why throw each piece separately when you can throw just one? I love all the thinking that's involved with pottery. Sneaky little work arounds. After it dries, I'll cut the two in half and trim for the perfect fit. ✨️ #clay #wheelthrown #pottery #interiordesign #artistsoninstagram #art #artist #homegoods #kilnunloading #kilnunload #potterylove #potteryart #gratitude #journey #ashleybartisticworks #gifts #handmade #shopsmall #smallbusiness #womeninbusiness" Wheel Thrown, Pottery Art, Art Artist, Gratitude, Two By Two, Perfect Fit, I Love, Trim, Ceramics
