The Brick Expressionism tendency in Germany. The former cigarette factory was built in the 1920s for the Haus Neuerburg company in Hamburg-Wandsbek. This company was later taken over by Reemtsma Cigarettenfabriken , which is why the building is also called Reemtsma Hof. The bulding is currantly (as of December 2016) owned by Aroundtown Property Holdings and used by Deutsche Telecom. Contemporary photograph by Carl Dransfeld was taken between 1929-1938. INTERWAR MODERNISM on Instagram: "Münster, Germany: Herz-Jesu (Christ’s Heart) Hospital/Monastery. This is a building that I do not know much about – quite nothing to be honest. The roof tells me that it was probably built in the 1920s when German brick expressionism was very popular. The 1920s have been troubled times in Germany: The »Weimar Republic« was the first representative democracy ever and keeping it that way hasn’t been that easy. During riots and attempted coups different forces tried to take over the leadership again and again. The German architects found inspiration in these circumstances and developed a certain bundle of architectural details which reflected these difficult times: sharp triangular spikes as decorative elements, triangular oriel windows and so on.
