Thus, the book deals with an understudied topic, as most of the political communication and campaigning literature is devoted to study political parties and their behavior in the western countries. The ambition of this volume is to fill this gap and help readers to understand what massive change in terms of political culture and political practice had parties undergo to create more or less successful campaigns. The book consists of a series of country case studies in which the authors focus on the history, development, and current state of political marketing in all respective countries.

The authors analyse the Russian political regime during Yeltsin´s rule with regard to several criteria: the character of „ancien regime”; the mode of transition; the position of the new regime on the axes of monism - limited pluralism and mobilisation – depolitization, according to the classical typology of J. J. Linz; the type of political leadership; the influence of international context on the transitional process. The principal aim is to help answer the question what type of political regime Yeltsin´s Russia represents. Besides the typology of J. J. Linz, the article uses methodologically various concepts of hybrid regimes.

The Czech perspective“. It presented the results of the Analysis of the securitization of Russia in the discourse of presidents as specific actors of Czech foreign policy. The research was based on the concepts of discursive nodal points and metanarratives (previously used in the discourse analysis e.g. by Laclau, Mouffe and Diez) and the concept of securitization (according to Buzan, Weaver and Wilde). In analysed the discourse of the 3 presidents in the sense of their positions to the securitization of Russia, changes in their discourse about Russia during the period examined (February 1993 – February 2018), within the overall context of Czech political and public discussion about Russia.

A brief overview of the basic typologies (J. J. Linz, S. P. Huntington, W. Merkel) is given first. The article then focuses on the methodology currently used for classifying non-democratic regimes, one which is connected to a significant degree with the theory of so-called hybrid regimes. Placing a strong emphasis on the texts of L. Diamond, A. Schedler, S. Levitsky and L. A. Way, the authors attempt to illustrate the methodological consequences the application of this theory has for the relevant area of political science. The authors particularly concentrate on the exclusive role of the elections as a variable of classification, or, respectively, on the concept of elections as a criterion applied in a continuum between electoral democracies at the one end, and competitive authoritarianisms at the other. This paper provides a critical reflection on this approach and points out its methodologica...
