This study is aimed to develop an eco-friendly wood stained extracted from beetroot (Beta vulgaris) and determine the color stability of this stain to UV light irradiation. Natural   dyestuff were extracted from beetroot by ultrasonic-assisted method and prepared from aqueous solution with ferrous sulphate, aluminum sulphate, copper sulphate and vinegar   mordant mixes. Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris), oriental beech (Fagus orientalis), oak (Quercus petraea) and walnut (Juglans regia) wood specimens were used for the study. After treatment with stain, wood specimens were exposed to UV irradiation for periods of 50, 100 and 150 hours. Results showed that the color change values for all wood specimens colored with beetroot extract had better performance compared to synthetic dye. Beetroot extracts may be used as an upper surface dyestuff for indoor application and toys. Therefore, alternative to synthetic dyes more economical and eco-friendly, wood paints may be developed.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of material type, screw diameter, and screw length on ultimate failure load and stiffness of four-sided furniture cabinets. In total, 81 four-sided test cabinets were constructed in 1/1 dimensions. Assembly of cabinets was done using nine different sizes of screws ranging from 3.5 by 40 mm to 5 by 50 mm. Panel materials were 18-mm-thick particleboard (PB) and 16-and 18-mm-thick medium-density fiberboard (MDF1, MDF2). Cabinets were anchored at two points located underneath the top panel and tested under static load. Loading procedures of the American National Standards Institute/Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association were followed during the static tests. Test results showed that 18-and 16-mm MDF cabinets yielded higher failure loads and stiffness values compared with the 18-mm PB cabinets. Test results also indicated that increasing either screw diameter or screw length tended to have a positive effect on the failure load and stiffness values. The strongest and most rigid four-sided cabinets were obtained with 4-mm-diameter and 50-mm-long screws if the construction panel material was 18-mm-thick MDF, 5-mm-diameter and 45-mm-long screws if the construction panel material was 16-mm-thick MDF, and 5-mm-diameter and 50-mm-long screws if the construction panel material was 18-mm-thick PB.

Bu çalışmada, farklı ağaç türlerinden hazırlanan, polivinilasetat (PVAc) ve üre-formaldehit (ÜF) tutkallarıyla yapıştırılmış lamine malzemelerin (LVL), liflere dik ve paralel doğrultudaki alyan vida tutma performansları, masif ağaç malzemelerle karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmiştir. Deney örnekleri, Türkiye Mobilya Endüstrisi'ndeki yaygın kullanımları nedeniyle Doğu kayını (Fagus orientalis L.), sarıçam (Pinus sylvestris L.) ve kavak (Populus nigra) odunlarından hazırlanmıştır. Deneylerde 5 mm çapında ve 70 mm boyunda alyan vida kullanılmıştır. 3 malzeme çeşidi, 3 ağaç türü, 2 lif doğrultusu ve her örnekten 10 adet olmak üzere toplam 180 adet örnek statik yük altında alyan vida çekme deneyine alınmıştır. Deneyler sonucunda, en yüksek alyan vida tutma mukavemeti, masif Doğu kayını malzemelerde liflere paralel yönde, en düşük ise masif kavak malzemede liflere dik yönde elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca, masif ağaç malzemeye göre teknik ve ekonomik yönlerden birçok avantajları olan lamine malzemeler, kendi ağaç türlerinin masif malzemelerine yakın performans değerleri göstermişlerdir. Buna göre, lamine malzemelerin, çerçeve (iskelet) mobilya üretiminde kullanıldığı taktirde, özellikle alyan vidalı birleştirme uygulamalarında mukavemet açısından problem çıkarmayacağı ifade edilebilir.

Bu çalışmada, T-tipi kavelalı tutkallı mobilya birleştirmelerinde, köşe destek elemanı boyutunun moment ve kesme kuvveti taşıma performansı üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. Deney örnekleri, Doğu kayını (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) ve sarıçam (Pinus sylvestris L.) odunlarından hazırlanmıştır. Doğu kayını kavelalar ile polivinilasetat (PVAc) tutkalı kullanılarak birleştirilmiş deney örnekleri, 30x30x25 mm, 40x40x25 mm, 50x50x25 mm ve 60x60x25 mm ölçülerindeki köşe destek elemanları ile desteklenmiştir. 2 deney türü, 2 ağaç türü, 4 değişik boyutta köşe destek elemanı, kontrol örnekleri ve her örnekten 10 yineleme olmak üzere toplam 200 örnek hazırlanmış olup, eğilme ve kesme yükleri altında denenerek moment ve kesme kuvveti taşıma performansları belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, köşe destek elemanı boyutu ile moment ve kesme performansı arasındaki ilişkiler incelenerek matematiksel modeller geliştirilmiştir. Böylece, mobilya tasarımcıları bu eşitlikleri kullanarak her bir ağaç türü için, köşe destek elemanı boyutuna göre moment ve kesme kuvveti değerlerini önceden tahmin edebileceklerdir. Deneyler sonucunda, Doğu kayınından hazırlanmış 60x60x25 mm ölçülerindeki köşe destek elemanlı örnekler hem moment, hem de kesme performansında en yüksek değerleri vermiştir.

In this study, the strength properties of glued-dowel joined sofa frames constructed of solid wood and wood based composite materials were investigated. Furthermore, the place of the stretcher was optimized in the side frame of the sofa. Scotch pine (Pinus Sylvestrıs Lipsky) and Turkish beech (Fagus Orientalis Lipsky) were used as solid wood materials. Oriented strandboard (OSB), okoume (Aucoumea klaineana pierre) plywood (PLY) and medium density fiberboard (MDF) were used as wood composites. Specimens were tested under static load according to the principles of TS 9215 by applying both seat and backrest loads which the sofa can be imposed upon in service. The finite element method was utilized for analyzing the sofa frames. As a result, it has been observed that the three dimensional structural analysis by means of the finite element method gives reasonable estimates of the overall strength performances of the sofa frames. Furthermore; it was concluded that the wood composite materials could be used instead of solid wood materials in the production of the frame construction furniture, especially in the upholstered seating furniture frames.

Bu çalışmada, kavelalı birleştirme tekniği uygulanmış kutu mobilya L-tipi köşe birleştirme elemanlarının moment kapasiteleri karşılaştırılmıştır. Deney örnekleri, 16 ve 18 mm kalınlığında yonga levha (YL) ve orta yoğunlukda lif levhadan (MDF) hazırlanmıştır. Deney örneklerinin birleştirilmesinde, 8 mm çapında ve 30 mm boyunda Doğu kayını (Fagus orientalis L.) ve plastik kavelalar kullanılmıştır. Birleştirmelerde yapıştırıcı olarak poliüretan esaslı polidol pu bond (PPB) tutkalı kullanılmıştır. Deney örnekleri, kullanım sırasında etkisinde kalabilecekleri kritik yükler göz önüne alınarak statik yük altında diagonal basınç ve çekme deneylerine tabi tutulmuştur. Deneyler sonucunda, en yüksek moment kapasitesi 18 mm MDF'den üretilmiş ve Doğu kayını kavela ile birleştirilmiş deney örneklerinde elde edilmiştir. Deney sonuçlarına göre, plastik kavelaların kutu mobilya birleştirmelerinde kullanılması mukavemet açısından uygun bulunmamış olup, Doğu kayını kavelaların tercih edilmesi önerilmiştir. Ayrıca, 18 mm levhalar ile hazırlanan örnekler 16 mm levhalar ile hazırlanan örneklere göre daha yüksek mukavemet değerleri vermiştir.
