Sex change glitch
I can't test this as I no longer have a working copy of a Generation II game, but if I'm remembering this correctly, a Pokémon caught in Generation I will become whatever sex it's named when it's traded to Generation II (like, a Pikachu caught in Red and nicknamed "Pikachu♀" would become a female Pikachu when traded to Generation II). I don't remember how this affected exclusive-gender Pokémon though. Dannyjenn 17:07, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
The 'Coward' Glitch
I've found a glitch in Pokémon Silver, not sure about Gold and Crystal yet.
If you go into battle with no Pokémon (and I mean at all) and the game acts as if you've won, even though you don't battle in the first place. Drakko 16:30, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
I started the game, ignored Professor Elm's lab, used the walk through walls cheat, and just kept walking. Drakko 05:44, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
It is possible to do without cheating; http://profglitch.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gcltempboard&action=display&thread=426&page=1 E1danQ 10:23, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
While you would have to perform a glitch to go into battle without a Pokemon, I don't think this would count as a glitch as it appears to be intentionally programmed that to avoid crashing. Maybe it should go in the Beta page? Snugglefox (talk) 01:13, 11 January 2014 (UTC)
GS Present as a glitch?!
Why is the damage formula of Present from Gold and Silver considered a glitch? It does not appear to have been an unintentional behavior of the games. In fact, all it seems is that Game Freak wanted the move to be "special" intentionally but then decided against it in Crystal so they changed it. Then that change was taken into account when Stadium 2 was developed. SatoMew 21:39, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
- Everything about it screams glitch. Especially "Present only inflicts a quarter of the normal damage against Rock-type and Steel-type Pokémon." It replaces the opponent's defense stat with the index number of the attacking Pokémon's secondary type. The only time moves are majorly changed within a generation is when there is a glitch, because it messes up link battles so much. Such a drastic change would only have occurred if its effect was due to a glitch. --SnorlaxMonster 10:42, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Extension to Shiny Ditto Glitch
Found by MissingnoXpert
Here's how it works:
Shiny Ditto to Gen I, Merge Ditto as the donor to the Pokemon you want to be Shiny. (He did it to Growlithe.. shiny Growlithe) Stabilize.. (he evolved it) Trade to Gen II (shiny Arcanine)
Notes: 1. You CANNOT use this in battles where it will gain XP, the reason is that its EXP will loop infinitely. To avoid, maybe you can breed it to get another Shiny? Then you could forget about the old one and start fresh... Nightshade likes PIE (talk) 22:37, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
What if a Rare Randy was used? Would that fix the EXP problem? Snugglefox (talk) 01:16, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Legendary beast Pokédex cry distortion
I've tried, and this glitch does not occur in Pokémon Gold. I don't know about Pokémon Silver though. --Quagsires (talk) 15:21, 14 August 2014 (UTC)
Disconnected Link Cable During Battle
This has only occurred once for me when using two GameBoy Advances and a Link Cable, and I was playing Gold while my opponent was playing Silver. Once his last Pokémon had fainted, he disconnected the cable instead of proceeding through the end of the battle. Then something unexpected happened. The game continued, showing my opponent to have sent out a Lv 300-or-so BUTTERFREE, whose HP bar extended off the screen. I was not prepared for this. I attacked once, likely taking a microscopic chip off of the offscreen end of the HP bar. I don't remember what attack BUTTERFREE used, but it was a one-hit KO. Since this was my last Pokémon, I proceeded through the dialogues and the match ended without incident. Both our battle records recorded a loss for that match.
This was years ago. Details are foggy. Sorry I can't elaborate further. Either way, this needs to be played with. // Razwerkz (talk) 11:38, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think a level 300 Pokemon would be possible- the cap is something like 255 or 256 because of how the number is stored. You sure you aren't misremembering that detail? Yamiidenryuu (talk) 18:21, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
Never-ending Level Up
This occurred to me playing Silver version, as i was leveling up Oddish. It would supposedly evolve at level 21, but I decided to level it up with an everstone, and when it reached level 24, something weird happened. The text box showed 'your oddish evolved to level 24', but on the HP bar it clearly said oddish level 14, and when i leveled it up once more, he EXP bar started to fill continuously, upgrading level after level, until it reached level 255, and then it reset to level 14 again. So much for a level 250 oddish, but in the meanwhile oddish learned all the moves it could, and actually kept them, so i had an oddish level 14 with petal dance. PS: I had previously used TM giga drain and HM Cut on that oddish, the rest was pretty much the same as any wild oddish . Pokabola2 (talk) 23:44, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
Dragon Fang bug
I have no idea how the Western fandom overlooked this for 15 years.
In the core Generation II games, the Dragon Fang does nothing, and the Dragon Scale boosts the power of Dragon-type moves instead. This was first fixed in Pokemon Stadium 2, and was fixed in the core games in Generation III.

Celebi without GS ball?
Long ago, I read about a glitch in Crystal where you could get Celebi by getting 6 Dewgong at lv 60 and taking them to a certain cave in the island complex after the Elite 4, where there will be a statue that will turn the lead into Celebi. There are more specifics, but is this possible? Velocityraptor (talk) 23:04, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
Nightmare glitch
I just discovered a video from Pokémon Crystal where a Pokémon woken up by a Full Heal STILL kept being affected by Nightmare even when it was awake. I'm kinda surprised no one seems to have noticed it and/or put it on Bulbapedia yet. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 08:49, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Dude glitches
The article states:
These two glitches can occur in normal playthrough only on Pokémon Crystal, and due to the lack of a Pokémon that can poison the player on Pokémon Gold; Pokémon Silver.
It says that you can get poisoned by a Weedle on Route 30 in Silver/Crystal and perform the glitch, and since Weedle doesn't appear there in Gold, the glitch can not be done. However, Spinarak can be found in the night there in Gold, and it knows Poison Sting, so the glitch can be performed in Gold.--Dr. James (tell me) 22:58, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
Firebreather Dick
So, I battled Firebreather Dick in the Burned Tower, and after I battled him, his sprite became colorless. Is this good enough to be added to this page? MageMagius (talk) 12:07, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
- Dick isn't a glitch. This is evidenced by the script files in the leaked Gen II source code, which have a comment "ここでは本当にトレーナーの絵が白くなります。変えちゃダメ!" (The Trainer sprite really turns white here. Don't change it!). I know that those leaks aren't something that we like to reference here on Bulbapedia (that's why I'm not submitting facts revealed by them, even though many of them would make great Trivia bits), but if they debunk something, we shouldn't state it as a fact. Also, this sprite change is a reference to his post-battle dialogue:I burned down to white ashes. --Maxim (talk) 19:08, 27 September 2021 (UTC)
