Purging my craft space

The women's ministry at our church is having a theme for this year.
It's called A Simple Year.
With my new full time job & kind of busy life
the idea of simplifying speaks to me.

In February, they spoke about getting rid of things we no longer need.
They mentioned crafts that we'd purchased but never got around to doing.
This made me think of scrapbooking.
While I've still tried to make Monthly Moments layouts,
I'm not making traditional scrapbook layouts anymore.
So, I decided to get rid of everything that I wouldn't use for card making
and gave a few boxes away.

I loved how clean my space feels!
Here are some photos:

My space is located in a corner of my basement,
opposite of Sage's Lego Friends table.
My work had some extra wooden boxes, so I snatched up two of them,
thinking they'd be perfect for storing my inks.

This one holds my Reverse Confetti inks...

And this one, my Altenew inks.

I changed up how I store my cardstock --
three hanging file containers for my Papertrey Ink and Reverse Confetti cardstock.

My diecutting station, with four baskets underneath --
two for my Reverse Confetti stamps, one for my Papertrey Ink stamps
and a fourth for my stencils, background stamps, patterned paper pads
and impression plate/panel dies.

Behind my chair, I have my IKEA shelf, with my binders of dies,
three more baskets of stamps, cardstock, a few embellishments, etc.

So, once I was done purging, I decided to go through my stamps
and dies and purge those as well.
I found some that aren't getting enough love from me
and would benefit from being in a new home.
The prices listed below include shipping to Canada or the US.
I'm willing to ship internationally, but you'll have to pay for the shipping.

Cleaning up & some stamps for sale

Hey there, friends!

Well, I had a very productive weekend!

I spent most of my free time reorganizing/purging/cleaning my craft area –
and I even did a little painting, too.  :)
I thought I’d share some photos with you…

Now, a year and a half ago, I painted two walls in my basement corner craft area aqua mist.
Well, this weekend, I decided to add some aqua mist stripes to the wall that leads into my area.

What do you think?
I totally love it!

Here's my space.
We have two tables set up: one for me that faces out into the room and one for my daughter, Sage.
It's suppose to be for her to craft, but she uses it more for playing with her Lego Friends.
I don't mind though... it's still a nice way to spend time together.

So here's my work area.
I have my sewing machine at the one end.

Here's another view.
I keep my stamps in baskets in front of me.
I have a basket for PTI, one for Reverse Confetti and one for all my other stamps.

I have a caddy for my tools, paintbrushes and pencils, etc.
Behind that, I have my 12x12 patterned paper, sorted by manufacturer.

Then, I have my PTI cardstock, sorted by colour.
On my four-tiered rotating shelf, I keep my smaller tools, twine, embossing powder and my PTI inks.

This is my diecutting station, where I keep my smaller trimmer, my ATG gun and my Big Shot.
On the shelf behind that, I have my impression plates, punches & embossing folders.
Below, I have my 6x6 paper pads, sorted by manufacturer and my photos that are waiting to be scrapbooked.

Oh, and I came home one day to find this old book holder/display on my front porch.
My husband had found it in their barn and brought it home for Sage to use for her books.
She said she didn't want it, so I claimed it for my space.
I'm using it to store embellishments.

Here are some close-ups of my shelves.

I was super excited to get all of my Bazzill 12x12 cardstock organized by colour!

Oh, and before you go, a purge means that I have some stamps & dies to get rid of.

The prices listed below include shipping to Canada or the US.
I'm willing to ship internationally, but you'll have to pay for the shipping.
If you're interested in anything, please email me at [email protected].
Thanks!

Welcome to my happy place

My friend, Lisa Elton asked me to share my craft space today with the Craft Storage Ideas blog
I figured this was the perfect opportunity to clean up my space (yes, it's not usually this neat!)
and do a little purging as well (such a great feeling!)

My craft space is located in a corner of our basement, under a west window,
so in the afternoons, I get a lot of nice light.
I share my space with my daughter.
When we'd first set up the space like this, last June, I thought that I'd have two tables facing each
other so we can each have our own space to craft, which worked throughout the summer.
Then, in the fall, we dog sat for a month. To keep the dog from chewing up Sage's Lego Friends,
I suggested that Sage use the craft table for her toys. and this is what she's done ever since! LOL!
When she does want to craft, she either pushes her toys out of the way or comes over to my side.

As you can see, she didn't quite catch the enthusiasm for tidying up her space. ;)

Moving on to my side...

On my side of the table, at the end of the left hand side, I keep my sewing machine set up,
which I use on a lot of my paper crafting projects.

On the right hand side, I have my work station.

I store my stamps in Tim Holtz folders in baskets. They're located right in front of me,
so they're easy to grab and use, since I stamp on all of my projects.

I picked up the baskets at the local dollar store and I store them by manufacturer.
The first basket holds my Papertrey Ink stamps, the second one holds
my Reverse Confetti stamp sets and the third one holds all of the others.

Beside these baskets, behind my Tonic 12" paper trimmer, I have a caddy that I got at Winners
that holds my scissors, paper-piecing tool, craft knife, pencils, paint brushes, pens, etc.
It also holds some 8.5x11" white card stock from Staples that I use to make my card backs.

Behind that caddy are legal sized hanging folders,
in which I store my 12x12 patterned paper, sorted alphabetically by manufacturer.

Next, I have some more hanging folders (these are letter size),
in which I store my 8.5x11" card stock.
In front of these hanging folders, I have one of three muffin tins that I spray painted white.
This one holds my baker's twine.

Beside these, I have my four-tiered rotating trays that I got from Harbor Freight.

On the top layer, I store my button twine, some embossing paste, mist bottles, glossy accents, etc.
On the second layer, I have my tape runners, sanding block, corner rounder, date stamps, Tim Holtz blending tools, etc.
On the bottom two layers, I store my Papertrey Ink, sorted by colour families, as well as my Versafine Black Onyx ink and Versamark pad. These are the inks I use most often.

Beside my table, to my right, I have an IKEA cart that I use as my die cutting station.

On the top, I have my Big Shot, smaller paper trimmer and ATG gun.
Behind these, I have a display stand that I use to store some stamps that I don't use terribly often,
my punches and my larger dies/coverplates/impression plates.

Below these, on the top shelf, I have two boxes that I got from Winners.
The one holds my 6x6 patterned paper pads, sorted alphabetically by manufacturer.
The other holds my photos waiting to be scrapbooked.

On the bottom shelf, I have my heat gun and a basket of ink.

Behind where I sit is my IKEA expedit shelf, which I love!
On the top of my shelf, I have some things that I love, including cards sent to me
from crafty friends, the Bible verse I cut from vinyl on my Silhouette and
one of the magazines where my card was featured on the cover.

Here's what I store on the shelves...
On the top left hand side, I have the binder that holds my dies
a box of cards and a box that holds plastic bags.
Beside that, I have some containers that hold my most used embossing powders and two more
painted muffin tins: one holds my PTI felt & the other my embossing powders & washi tape.
Below those, is a basket that holds my purchased embellishments, including decorative brads,
enamel dots, mini clothes-pins, chipboard & acrylic embellishments, etc.
Beside those are some containers that hold my buttons, sorted by colour,
and my Pretty Pink Posh sequins, ribbons & twine.

To the right of these shelves, I have some more boxes (these hold more cards & ribbon)
& my candy jar that holds my sugar free Werthers candies.
Beside those is my docking station so I can listen to music while I craft.
Under those is a box that holds some stamp boxes that I use to package card sets,
my large ruler and some paper bags I use for treat bags.
Then, I have a wire basket (from Winners) that holds my packages of 8.5x11" card stock.

Moving on to the bottom two shelves, I have a Creative Memories accordion folder that holds my patterned paper scraps, again sorted alphabetically by manufacturer, and my Chickaniddy Crafts products, stored in large plastic bags.
The cloth container beside those holds some miscellaneous tools, large clear bags, etc.
Below these, I have some rubbermaid containers.
The top one holds spare twine, adhesive refills, extra Tim Holtz refills, etc.
The bottom one holds envelopes.
The shelf beside those holds some craft foam, watercolour and acetate pads, page protectors and my notebooks where I sketch out ideas.

Oh, and I should explain that the wicker basket beside the shelving unit has my Monthly Moments binder and accessories in it.

And, beside these shelves, I have some black binders in which I store my alphabet stickers,
sketches and online course print-outs.
Beside these, I have my and my 12x12" card stock.
Then, I have the magazines in which I've been published.
Below those are two more rubbermaid containers. The top one holds my patterned paper scraps
that I don't really use much (these are available for Sage to use).
The bottom one holds my Silhouette vinyl, extra blades, etc.
The last container holds some sewing projects and my watercolour paints.

And there you have it -- my happy place. :)

Exciting news & my new space

I'm super excited to be able to share some wonderful news..... I was chosen to be a member of the Fresh Squeezed Stamps Design Team!

They've announced the new team on the Fresh Squeezed Stamps blog, so click over there to see the amazingly talented women that I'll be joining on the team. And  make sure you check back here on my blog on Fridays-- that'll be my day to post my Fresh Squeezed Stamps projects. :)

I also wanted to share some photos of my new craft area, which I got all put together yesterday afternoon.

My craft area is in a corner of our basement. Here's the before photo.

It was fine. I really liked sitting out with my back to the wall and facing the room. However, I didn't like having to walk around to the other side to grab supplies. I also found I used the whole table, which didn't leave a lot of room for Sage to join me.

So, here's the after...

We painted the back wall walls Serendipity-- it's fabulous-- it's just like PTI's Aqua Mist! We bought two Expedit cabinets at IKEA on Friday and Sage & Austin helped me put them together yesterday afternoon. And we added another table, that will be Sage's (or any friend who wants to join me!) space.

Here are some detail photos:

And that's it. :)

I'm so glad that I got this done just at the beginning of summer! I'm looking forward to cooling off in my basement and making layouts and cards (& am super happy to be using some new Fresh Squeezed Stamps to do so!)

Thanks for looking!

It never fails...

... if I start organizing one area of my scrap space (like my photos yesterday), then I get the itch to organize more.

This afternoon, I went through my stash (patterned papers, alphabet stickers, embellishments) and purged everything that I thought I didn't need anymore. I had a lot of patterned paper that I'd liked the look of online and ordered it, but when it showed up at my door.... hmmm, not so much. (Have I mentionned how thrilled I am that Love is in the Details opened in Winkler and I can go back to buying scrapbooking supplies in person?)

Anyway, so after I'd made up my kits/door prizes, I decided to move things around in my scrapbook area a little. Some things have a new home and it looks so tidy-- I can't wait to get in there and mess it all up again!

Here's a shot of my table. These baskets sit directly in front of where I sit.

I've got my PTI buttons in a container, sorted by colour. Then, in the basket beside that, I have my embellishments: chipboard, decorative brads, journaling tags, metal embellishments, etc. I had these on a shelf below my Big Shot, but I found they were out of sight, out of mind. I did purge quite a bit of things I knew I wouldn't use, but I also found some things I'd totally forgotten about but still liked. I'm hoping if they're front and just off centre on my desk, then I'll remember to reach for them.

I'd gotten too many PTI stamps to fit in one basket, so I had been storing my "seasonal sets" (Christmas, Easter, Fall, etc.) behind the decorative brads in the embellishments basket (along with my 6x6 paper pads), but my regular sets were still feeling tight. When I moved things around I was able to fit in another basket, so I decided to split my stamps in two. In the basket on the left, I'm storing $24 sets. On the right, my $15 & $5 sets.

Beside my stamp baskets, I used to have my four tiered rotating shelf, but I moved that beside the wall and put my file that holds my patterned paper, sorted by manufacturer beside my stamps, behind my caddy that holds my scissors, rulers, pens, etc.

So, you can see, in the corner I have my PTI cardstock files, sorted by colour. And beside that, my Revolving Four Tray Bin from Harbor Freight, where I store my felt, jewels, thread, twine, post-it notes, small tools and ink pads.

Beside my table, I have a cart that we got at IKEA years ago to fill the space in my kitchen where the dishwasher was suppose to go. Then, we got a dishwasher (which we don't use because it doesn't work, but I digress...) so it moved downstairs. Now, it's my diectting station. I store my non-PTI stamps and punches on the shelf behind my Big Shot.

And below that, I store my  newly organized photos. The box beside that used to house my embellishments, but now I'm using it for my 6x6" paper packs, which I sorted by manufacturer.

Before I sign off, I wanted to quickly share a layout that I made using the photos I took of Austin's performance in the Annie musical at his school this past springThe My Mind's Eye August Challenge is to use 10 photos on a layout and since I had ten photos on my collage, I decided to see if I'd have some MME products that would go with them... and I did! Their new line, Nostalgia, coordinated perfectly.

Here's my layout:

I used My Mind's Eye patterned paper and  journaling diecut. I also used Papertrey Ink stamps (movers & shakers sentiments) and dies (tag sale #5, Modern Alphabet Uppercase.)

Here's a close-up of my title treatment:

.... and of my journaling:
