Lingua Abenaki
Lingua Abenaki, vel Abnaki, est paene exstincta lingua Algonquiana Quebeci et Cennomanicae. Erant binae varietates, Orientalis et Occidentalis, quae inter se vocabulario et phonologia differebant, et aliquando linguae distinctae putantur.
Abenaki Orientalis in usu fuit inter nonnullos populos, quorum ultimi fuerunt populi Penobscot in Cenomannica litorali habitantes. Ultimus homo qui lingua Abenaki in Penobscot Cenomannicae inter annos 1991 et 2000 utebatur mortuus est.[1][2] Aliae Abenaki Orientales, sicut Caniba et Aroosagunticook, in documentis Francicis ex temporibus colonicis inveniuntur.
Lingua Abenaki Occidentali anno 1991 utebantur viginti homines secundum Flumen Sancti Laurentii inter Montem Regium et Urbem Quebeci habitantes, plerumque in in vicu Odanak, situ prioris missionis Sancti Francisci, et quinquaginta fere homines per Novum Eboracum et Connecticutam habitantes. Anno 2006 solum quinque loquentes noti sunt.[3]
