With increasing awareness of the advantages of game-based learning, there is a growing number of ... more With increasing awareness of the advantages of game-based learning, there is a growing number of studies showing its application to both computer science education and sustainable development education. In this paper, we describe, with the example of the Eco JSity application, how both of these areas can be combined into a single tool. The presented evaluation results showed that despite incorporating the sustainable development topics into both the theme and mechanics of the educational game, both the usefulness and ease-of-use of the application were still assessed positively by students. We also identified three clusters of students depending on their attitude towards combining education on computer science and sustainable development. We concluded that game-based learning provided a capable means of incorporating sustainable development topics into teaching of unrelated technical skills.

Virtual Reality (VR) technology introduce new ways to teach students about STEM subjects. Using d... more Virtual Reality (VR) technology introduce new ways to teach students about STEM subjects. Using developed virtual environments students can experience things that would otherwise be dangerous to showcase. We've developed a virtual reality educational escape room game in which the player solves problems based on realistic chemical experiments to advance in the game. The game was showcased in a study fair event where people of various ages and backgrounds had an opportunity to test and complete one of the game's levels. Based on the observations made during the study fair, the overall conclusion is that the VR technology can be a useful tool in education bringing more entertainment and engagement into the learning and teaching processes.

A range of aspects of using the maturity models were analyzed to this end; these aspects were taken into consideration when designing the case tools structure. The group of existing case tools is reviewed, their benefits and limitations are displayed. The inner structures for organizing the model and data under selection are analyzed. Solutions and issues regarding creation of capability maturity models development environments are discus-sed. Recommendations for the development of analogous tools are presented.

These tools are widely used for many purposes – from visual programming to specification of common actions, yet they usually can't be extended with additional elements and have limited execution capabilities. Our goal is to choose a flexible implementation platform and create extensible executable flowchart system that can be used to teach students programming. In this article we present a flowchart metamodel created with Microsoft DSL Tools – a graphical designer for domain models with a set of code generators.

Modern business information technologies, such as Cloud computing and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD... more Modern business information technologies, such as Cloud computing and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) raise new requirements for end node security. Cryptographic algorithms must be used to ensure security of business data and communications. However, data encryption decreases battery lifetime on mobile devices such as smartphones or tablet PCs. In this paper, we provide an analysis of energy consumption characteristics of cryptographic algorithms from Bouncy Castle Crypto API. We propose a cryptographyoriented energy-security trade-off model and use it to evaluate energy-efficiency of cryptographic algorithms. The results show that energy consumption of asymmetric algorithms is more dependent on the key size than that of symmetric algorithms.

A case study of the knowledge sharing community portal implementation and usage statistic is provided.
