The Nuragic civilization was the first to thrive in Sardinia. Giant Nuraghe graves and settlements are still in evidence today all over the island. The Phoenicians were the second to arrive in Sardinia, after the native Nuragic people, and they set up ports of trade on the Sardinian coast. These bronze figurines were left as offerings at shrines in Sardinia between 1000 and 700 BC. Above, mother with child. The "Chief of the Herdsmen."
