However, throughout the changes of times, it becomes a tremendous battle to sustain its role as a centre of Islamic community. Nowadays, an increasing number of mosques have also brought to the main challenges in terms of management aspect. This phenomenon has created a new challenge to mosque management which necessitate more effective system. Review of literature reveals that FM is the practice of integrating the management of people and the business process of an organisation within the physical infrastructure to enhance performance. Besides, it has become the focus for the important issues of best value and customer satisfaction within management of supporting services. Therefore, this paper seeks to understand and discuss the potential of facilities management (FM) approach to mosque management. The research adopts compreh...

Mosque plays a crucial role in various aspects of the life of Muslims and has great potential to ensure that the welfare of surrounding society is well-taken care of. In order to comprehend to this inspiration, mosque should have good facilities management (FM) practice to support its primary business for the long run. A good start to a good FM practice in an organisation is to identify the key drivers of FM practice in supporting the achievement of its core objectives. Hence, this paper explores the key drivers for sustainable FM practice of mosques in Malaysia. A focus group discussion was conducted involving experts in FM and the mosque management committee mem...

Promoting desirable energy behaviour can be achieved through understanding of users’ behaviour and its determinants to develop appropriate energy saving programmes. However, research on facilities users’ behaviour and facilities energy management is limited within the domain of facilities management, especially in the higher education environment. The main question addressed in this study is: how can users’ behaviour be incorporated into facilities energy management? This study aims to explore the energy use behaviour of students living in higher education residential facilities. The objectives were to determine the factors that influence residential students’ energy use behaviour from the students’ and managers’ perspectives respectively; to identify energy management practices implemented in the residential facilities; and to develop a ...

Data for this research was obtained through questionnaire based on an energy management assessment measurement tool involving heads of estates/property and maintenance departments of the studied institutions. Total of 45 key practices adapted from previous studies has been used to assess the implementation of energy management in the respective institutions in Ghana. The study revealed that implementation of energy management key practices was generally low across all the phases. Six key practices - informing of the reasons/need for energy management, motivation, conducting economic analyses, tracking and targeting energy usage and key energy use groups, and reviewing building drawings and equipment specification - were not implementad by any institution. The key practices that were implemen...

Many countries in the developing world such as India, Bangladesh among others are developing housing finance policies that recognised the role and importance of such innovative mechanisms. However, in the case of Ghana, despite the over 2,234 Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) spread over the country, few are into lending for housing activities. This paper assessed the role of HMF in the low-income housing market. The paper relied on extant literature and realised that HMF could play a fundamental role in solving the low-income housing challenge faced by many LIHs in Ghana. The paper concludes that HMF could help LIHs to regularise land tenure, acquire building materials and tools, acquire building designs and skills development, housing infrastructure delivery, finance new and home i...

Even though ironing has adverse impact on energy consumption, studies on ironing, specifically, in the context of students' energy usage are limited. Hence this paper reports on an exploratory study with objective of exploring the factors that underlie ironing behaviour of residential students of higher education institutions. Data for the study were obtained through focus group technique and analysed using qualitative content analysis in MAXQDA 12 qualitative analysis software. The result of the study revealed that majority of the students in residential facilities do not practice bulk ironing which was attributed to attitude; perceived behavioural control; social factors; physical factors such as availability of space for hanging ironed clothes; availability of power; and background of the individual students. Our findings could help managers of institutions to formulate appropriate strategies and policy framework to address students' excessive energy consumption through ironing in their residential facilities. Practical implications of the study are discussed.

The findings from the study has shown that energy management is an untapped potential to reduce electricity cost in higher education institutions (HEIs) in Ghana.

The implementation of PPP has directly affected the delivery of healthcare FM. This paper highlights the needs of PPP approach in realizing the role of FM in design phase of healthcare projects. Through literature review, it was discovered that PPP enable FM service provider to be involves in design phase and contribute to design input from operational healthcare FM perspectives. It is also the intention of this paper to point out the challenges within the arrangement. Greater commitment, performance based approach, associated risk and contract inflexibility are among the main challenges that have to be addressed. In overall, with more preparation and improvement, PPP is expected to be the main preference in optimizing the delivery of healthcare FM.
