I teach in a school in a town just outside of Buffalo, NY. The airport is about two miles from the school, so we have airplanes flying overhead all the time. We get a great view of them flying in from our faculty lunch room window. So guess what I saw flying in today?
Yep....Air Force One carrying President Obama! He visited Buffalo today for a few hours and this big bird flew directly over our school! I wish our kids could have seen it, but their lunch room does not have windows. One of our 5th grade teachers took his kids outside for lunch in anticipation of seeing it, but it started to rain!
It was definitely a cool site to see! Something you don't see everyday...

My PMS Secret Admirer
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! The DT members from Paper Makeup Stamps had a Valentine Secret Admirer gift exchange and I was lucky enough to have Danni Bindel receive my name for her secret admirer. I received my gift earlier in the week and can finally reveal it to you today. Here's the sweet present I received from Danni. Look at those beautiful cards and even a matching tag/bookmark! I love buttons and ribbons and she sent bunches of those. She even sent a little Memento ink pad in Tuxedo Black...my fav! And most of the little things were packed inside that cute little bag she made with the snail! So cute! Oh, and the Reese's? There WERE two packages of them, but I told you I got this package earlier in the week and who could wait to eat them? Certainly not me!!!! After this picture was taken, I ripped into this package as well! LOL!!!
Thanks so much Danni! I loved my Valentine gift package!

A Fairy in Heaven for Kayleigh
If you've visited my blog for the last two posts, you would have seen I used a digi image from Paper Makeup Stamps called A Fairy for Kayleigh. It was created as a charitable stamp for a little baby named Kayleigh who was gravely ill. All of the proceeds from this image are going to the Freeman family to help with their expenses while spending all their time with their little girl. Sadly, Kayleigh passed away on Monday, only after celebrating Mother's Day with her mommy. She was only here for less than a year with her family, and they are obviously heartbroken. Katie Cotton, owner of PMS, will continue to sell the image and continue to forward the proceeds to this family. You can see cards I made with this image here and here. You can also see other creations made with this image on the PMS blog here. The blog the family created about Kayleigh can be found here. It's very inspirational. Rest in peace, sweet little Kayleigh.

Get Out and Vote!
Hi all! I've just been watching the news and am very pleased to see the lines of people waiting to vote! Kudos to all of you who waited and voted. I don't care who you voted for (I'm not campaigning for anyone...that is your choice to make), I'm just asking for you to exercise this most important right. I don't have a card to share with you, so I'm just posting the most patriotic one I've done in the past (you can see the details in this post).
Happy Election Day everyone! Thanks for stopping by!

Heart to Heart - World Alzheimer's Day
I've been reading Carolyn King's blog (Cammie) for some time now, and find her to be a very talented artist. She has designed stamps sets for GinaK Designs and is featured in magazines all the time. She recently posted on her blog that she lost her grandmother to Alzheimer's disease. She designed a stamp set for GinaK Designs called Whimsical Autumn, of which she is donating 100% of the proceeds to the Alzheimer's Association. I felt an immediate connection to Cammie, as my father died of Alzheimer's in 1994 at the age of 73. He was diagnosed when he was 65 and my mom was his caregiver for many years until she was no longer able to care for him. We were fortunate that the Veteran's Administration hospital took care of him for the last six years of his life. This was a terrible loss to our family as my dad was a great man...intelligent, funny, and a walking sports encyclopedia! He is missed more and more each day as our family grows and they miss out on knowing such a great man.
When I saw what Cammie was doing, I immediately bought the stamp set and emailed her about my dad. She sent a very nice message back to me. Now, she is hosting a HUGE blog candy give away. You can read about it here. I felt like I needed to enter this contest, so here is my card. The stipulation for entering the contest was that you had to make a card for someone who is or was a caregiver and send it to them. Obviously this is going to my mom.
I used Cammie's Whimsical Autumn and SU's new Autumn Vine dp. It will be available in the Holiday mini beginning October 1. I used four of the designs on this card. I used SCS Sketch Challenge #194 for the layout. It really allowed me to use up and showcase a lot of the dp! I colored the main image with copic markers and added the antique faux brads (something I picked up at Michael's jewelry section on sale). The sentiment is from PTI's Out on a Limb and is perfect..."Everyday is a gift". We should all live by that motto!
Take a peek at Cammie's blog candy giveaway and enter if you can. Thanks for stopping by and reading my story.

A Wedding Present
I have another friend who is getting married today and I'm going to the wedding (in just a few short hours and I have so much to do)! I started to make a card hours ago. I was casing a card from PTI's gallery using Wedding Day, but I did not like it from the start, so I had to start all over again with my own design. (That will teach me to copy!) I pulled out this stamp from Stampington & Co. that I got eons ago at my LSS. I've never colored it...I've only embossed this image in silver. Now I'm more comfortable coloring, so that's what I did using copic markers. I used my largest circle Nestability to cut it out and added Crystal stickles to it as well (this qualifies it for the Mothers and Daughters challenge too!). The dp is something I've had for a long time by Liz King. I was going to use it for scrapbooking my wedding album, but that never happened so I'm using it now! The base of the card is vanilla and the next layer is Blush Blossom. I was going to use a white sheer ribbon, but this peach ribbon was already cut from my first fiasco of a card, so I used that with a little piece of the sheer ribbon. Two of the corners were rounded, and I added the pearls in the corner. Here's the inside of the card. I used more of the dp and a Martha Stewart border punch and layered it on another piece of Blush Blossom. The ring stamp is by Rubber Stampede and the sentiment is from PTI Wedding Day. I'm really happy with this card, considering what I started with! I have another post today, so scoll down to see that and thanks for stopping by!

Where Did 25 Years Go?
My best friend Maria and her husband, Jim, were married July 2, 1983...25 years ago! Where did those years go? I know it sounds cliche, but it seems like yesterday that I wore that cotton candy pink dress! I was her maid of honor and could not believe that my best friend, all 21 years of her, was getting married! "Why?" I remembered asking. We just started going out and having fun dancing and drinking at the discos (it was the 80's remember!). But she knew there was something special about Jim and she went for it! Best thing she ever did! They have two wonderful sons and have had a wonderful life together so far! Congratulations on these first 25 years together!
This is the card I am giving to them. I made this one before and just loved it. I did case it, but made a few changes to the original. You can see my post here on SCS and the link to the original card. I used Baroque Motifs and My Sentiments Exactly for the sentiment. They were stamped in Versamark on black paper and embossed in white and the circular stamps were embossed in silver. The little white flowers were embossed in white also and cut out. I used crystal brads on this one...just a little more bling than the other one I did. I also used a silver mat to go with the silver wedding anniversary theme. I also stamped the envelope. I hate giving plain envelopes. Here is a picture of the envelope.
I stamped the same sentiment on the front, and since this is a 5 1/4" square card, it looked a little lonely. So, I pulled out the PTI Wedding Day set and stamped the circle and put the dates inside it. It did the trick! Let me know what you think, and thanks for stopping by!

A Thank You
I was able to eek out a card tonight (imagine that)! Of course, I needed this one for tomorrow! Why is it that I cannot have a stash of cards that I can go to? I've made so many, but couldn't find the "right" thank you? Does this happen to you or is it just me? Anyway, this card is for my aide at school. She is actually a teacher who did a long-term substitute position for a teacher on maternity, then took this temporary aide position for the remainder of the year. Smart thing, because she will be hired next year in some teacher or teacher assistant capacity. She is a great aide and another teacher and I got her a gift card to the local teacher store, Holcomb's. I wanted to keep it simple but teacher-ish, hence the apple. I colored the apple with my SU markers and used the stamp-a-ma-jig to position it directly in the middle of the square. I stamped the sentiment, then punched it with the small oval and used the larger oval punch for the red piece. I used a piece of this great SU red and white striped ribbon. The sentiment is on dimensionals. The inside reads "you're much appreciated". The "you're" came from PTI's Piece of Cake and the "much appreciated" is from SU's set of the same name. Combining the two gave me the message I wanted and the fonts are pretty similar, so it's looks really good! I love mixing and matching like that! It makes me feel creative using all my stuff like that! LOL! Thanks for stopping by!

Just Checkin' In!
I'm sorry I haven't been around for a while. I see that some of you are stopping by... thanks! I'm very busy with closing out this school year, getting last minute papers corrected and doing report cards! I'm also making my nephew's wedding cake for this Saturday! I'm excited about it and will definitely post a picture of it when it's done! I've decided that I probably won't have time to make his wedding card or my FIL's Father's Day card! GASP!! I'll try, but I don't know if time will permit! I'll post those if they get done as well! Have a great weekend and please stop by again!

Giraffes and More
Well, I'm hoping there'll be more today! I'm making cards today for gifts I'm delinquent on. One of the teachers at work and his wife had a baby a couple of months ago and I never sent a card or a gift, so today's the day for that. Another teacher just built and moved into a new house, and I wanted to give her a gift also. That card is yet to come, so come back and see that one. ETA: It's done...scroll down to see it! I have a cute idea for a "new house" card that I got at my LSS, Buffalo Stamps & Stuff.
I received this image (his name is "Stretch" from High Hopes Rubber Stamps) from Cheryl Rowley in this lovely box a while ago. She gave it to me as a gift the first time we got together. I had mentioned that I really liked this guy, so she stamped quite a few of them and put them in the box. She also sent me a birthday card with him on it, which you can see in this post. That watercoloring is awesome! I used her layout for my card, but used copic markers to color him with. I tried to watercolor him, but it just wasn't working for me. I have to practice more, I guess! This turned out much nicer. After I colored the blue spots, I used a light brown and a beige for the rest of the giraffe. He looked too "blah", so I took an orange/yellow marker and colored over it, then blended it with the colorless blender. It brightened it up and gave me the more apricot color I was looking for. That's what is so great about these markers. You can color over another color, blend it in, shade, etc. They are wonderful! I used the tiny bubbles CB folder for the background and used this cool new rub-on paste I got from Bonnie's Best with a coupon I won at the WNY SCS gathering I went to a few weeks ago. I used a Luster Amber color and it gives a little sheen to the embossed parts. Real cool IRL! I also used this cute dp from Making Memories called Animal Crackers/Ella Giraffes. Crystal Stickles are on the giraffe and the sentiment...I love glitter and shine! There's another card to see....don't leave yet!
Recipe
Stamps: Riveting, Stretch from High Hopes Rubber Stamps
Paper: Apricot appeal, bashful blue, very vanilla, Making Memories Animal Crackers/Ella Giraffes
Ink: Apricot appeal, bashful blue, black, copic markers
Accessories: Tiny Bubbles CB folder, Amber luster rub-ons, dimensionals, dauber, Crystal Stickles, circle and scallop punches
Here's the other card I made for a co-worker who just bought a new house. The picture is so dark. I just can't seem to get a good photo. I think I need another light.
I got the idea from a card I saw at my LSS. I kept the layout, but changed the colors and used background dp from Afternoon Tea. The nest and branch are colored with copic markers. The bird should have been facing the other way, or I should have stamped the sentiment more over to the right and put the bird on the left side, but everything was stamped and mounted, and I didn't feel like changing it (lazy!).

They're Done!
The wedding invitations I've been making for my nephew's wedding are finally done! My hands and fingers are red (from the ink) and extremely sore (I think I've got blisters)! It's late (oh my gosh it's 11:00 p.m.!) and I haven't taken pictures yet. I'll do that tomorrow and post them here then. Have a wonderful tomorrow!

Happy Birthday to...
ME! Yes today is my birthday! I won't tell you how old I am, but I will tell you that there have been 10 presidents during my lifetime! I had to count that one a couple of times and check my Social Studies book to make sure (LOL)! When I checked SCS this morning, I had three birthday messages. One was from Cheryl Rowley, another from Michelle Goodrich, and the third from Melody (lacyquilter)! How nice was that? Then when I checked my email, I had one from Splitcoast! I had to point to the date on the newspaper my DH was reading to remind him of the date! He knows the date, but thought the 19th was tomorrow! I bought four sets of Nestabilities from him for my birthday. He never knows what to get me, so I always pick it out and he pays! Not a bad deal!
These are some cards I received. This first one is from Cheryl Rowley. Isn't that watercoloring amazing? This next one is from my friend Tracy. She has been participating in the SCS challenges daily, but doesn't post them. I told her she needs to start. She's been stamping for a while, but has recently gotten herself organized and carved a little space in her basement and has been happily stamping away. She has done some awesome stuff. This last one is a Hallmark card from my friend Sue in Columbus, Ohio. I had to post this cause I thought it was so cool! I may take this apart and try to re-create one like it later! I took a photo from above so you could see how it's put together. Cool, huh? Thanks, Sue! I also want to thank all my family and friends who have called to wish me a happy birthday! We are off to dinner! DH is getting anxious!

A New Stamping Friend
Yes, I met a new stamping friend...Cheryl Rowley! She lives about an hour from me, and we have a lot in common! We are both elementary teachers, she grew up in the town of Cherry Creek, NY, which is where my husband and I own some land and a cabin, and we got married on the exact same day...April 11, 1992! I told her that maybe we were twins, but alas, we don't look alike! How coincidental is that? We met this morning at Starbucks, talked for a while (mostly about teaching, not stamping), and then went next door to JoAnn's and ACMoore. We bought some Inkadinkadoo clear stamps on sale at JoAnn's for $5.99 (what a steal) and some other goodies. We had a great time! She also gave me this gift! I mentioned that I liked giraffes, so she stamped me some of these images as well as the mouse and balloons. That stamp is a monkey, which is totally cute. Also in the bag were some sentiments that say "I'd stick my neck out for you"! So cool! And check out that box! I think she said that the image is a Whipper Snapper flower that is watercolored (her signature style). Go over to her gallery at SCS here to see her gorgeous cards.
Here is a close up of the box.
We are meeting again next Saturday for an event in Ransomville, NY that Tracy Harp and Holly McMillen (Toy) are hosting. Can't wait for that, but I need more time to do all the stamping I need for that event! Thanks, Cheryl, for the great gift and fun afternoon!

Send Someone a Heart
My mother-in-law sent this to me today. There was a poem that went along with it that said:
Never take someone for granted
Hold every person close to your heart
Because you might wake up one day
And realize that you've lost a diamond
While you were too busy collecting stones.
You were supposed to send it to everyone you don't want to lose in '08. So I'm sending it to all of you! Have a great day!

Today is a Good Day!
Why you may ask? Well first, I only worked a half day because I had an eye doctor appointment. (Did you every try to drive after they put those drops in your eyes to dialate them? Pretty difficult, huh? Well multiply that ten-fold when there is snow on the ground and the sun is shining! I really needed a pair of those cataract sunglasses!) When I came home (safely, thank goodness), I found these in my mailbox! I am in a copic marker club over at Gina K Designs and this is the first installment of six! I didn't expect them this soon! I have 30 more on the way for the next 5 months! I already have a few of these to add to my collection! They are really a lot of fun to use! Lastly, today is my last day for a whole week's vacation! Our school is on its mid-winter break, and the best thing is that I get more time to stamp (after I cross off some of the things on my to do list)! So hopefully, you will be seeing a lot more action on my blog! Stop by later...I may have something to post for today's Limited Supplies challenge at SCS...using circles! I have to see what I can come up with!
