Happy Friday and an Uplifting Song

For those of you that don't know, my younger sister is currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (what is that? www.mormon.org). This is a video of her singing a hymn with her mission companion.

I'm totally proud of her.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!...

But more importantly, welcome the start of football season.
Which is obviously one of the best things about fall.

I love my Cougars, even though they lost today. It could have been a lot worse, but man it was still a bummer.

On a brighter note, Tennessee won their game today. And of course (after BYU, obviously) UT is my team of choice.

This fall I'm going to enjoy football from the South. And anyone
from the south knows that football here is so much different than football anywhere else. It's a religion. And oh so much fun.

And the Fun Begins!

I have officially started my classes. I'm in for a long haul, but it should be worth it in the end!

Since the move from Utah, I have had plenty of wonderful and exciting experiences (although that may be a slight exaggeration for the most part). The last few weeks in Utah consisted of tons and tons of packing (which was made worse by the fact that I'm an amazing procrastinator) and lots of stress.

I flew out to Tennessee about a week before David followed with his dad and sister in the truck. They met me in Tennessee and we enjoyed a wonderful day on the lake before packing up my belongings from my parents and trekking down to Alabama.

After the initial move in, we took a day and headed over to Destin, Florida for a beach trip. Oh man, do I love the ocean. And I love the Gulf Coast because the ocean is WARM!

I started getting acquainted with my new position about a week before classes started, and I started classes this past Monday. Yikes! We've already been here 2.5 weeks! Time definitely does fly by.

We absolutely love the ward out here. Our first Sunday we went to church we got stared down like crazy. Haha. The number of active members in the ward is rather small, but they are so nice and totally just embraced us as their own. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone a little better.

The biggest downfall that I have run into is the cockroaches. Man, there's not much worse than finding a 2.5 inch roach hanging out on your kitchen counters. Gross!

Two Years Already!

I have been married for 2 entire years today. When did I get old enough for that?!?
Time sure flies...I still can't believe it's been that long.

I have definitely learned a lot in the 2 years we've been married (plus the year or so we were dating...). And I couldn't have asked for a better husband. He's been supportive of me in so many ways, especially this whole move-across-the-country-so-I-can-go-to-graduate-school-thing.
(Did I mention he's even transferring schools so I can do this? This will be his 2nd time transferring. How did I get so lucky?)

And, just because it's fun, here's a wedding photo. Enjoy. :)

Off into the unknown...

...sort of.

I have officially be accepted into the University of South Alabama's graduate program. I start working on my PhD in Marine Sciences this coming August.
Yikes.
So that means there's been a lot of planning and preparing in the DaCosta home.
We're packing up and heading out to Mobile. August 2nd is the date, and we are hoping to find a super cute apartment before then. And preferably one that doesn't cost too much of a small fortune. (Although it's looking like our luck on that front might be wearing thin...).
This is one of the biggest decisions we have made together in our marriage, so it has definitely been an adventure. Hauling across the country to a place I have only visited once and David has never been is certainly a bit scary, but I'm feeling all the excitement of change of place. As much as I love working retail (which may be a slight exaggeration)...I cannot wait to move on.

On a COMPLETELY different note, my amazing little sister is about to set of on her own adventure into the unknown.  Tomorrow night she will be in the Missionary Training Center, preparing to serve the good people of Tempe, Arizon on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. if you're interested in her updates, I am keeping up a blog for her: http://sisterbayleemelling.blogspot.com/

Best wishes

Oh, it's February?

So, I had this amazing idea that I would try and post blog updates at least weekly this year. Oops, guess that one's not happening.

But, in my defense, it has been quite a busy month. I have put in 2 applications for graduate school, so wish me luck. :) I've spent the rest of my time working, reading, and on Pinterest. I guess I'm a fairly boring person.

I'm leaving for Tennessee tomorrow. I have an interview for graduate school in Alabama, so I'll be driving there and then spending some time with my family. Check back for some updates on that trip.

On that note, here's something to think about for the next little while:

Risk

This is what I keep telling myself about my interview this week. :)

Election Day!

Alright, I haven't posted in a while.
But today is an important day for Americans.
Election Day.

I encourage everyone that hasn't voted already to get out there and voice your opinion.  Regardless of your political views, it is extremely important to take an active role in the future of the country.  Your vote DOES count.  Can you imagine what would happen if EVERYONE thought their vote was worthless?  There would be no one voting.  You as an individual have quite an influence on the people around you.  Also, there are many, many people in United States history that have given their lives and their time to provide us with the RIGHT to vote.  Show them you appreciate their sacrifice.  As American citizens we have a wonderful and unique opportunity to choose where we want our country to go and who we want to be leading us there.

I am truly grateful that I am an American.
