This $15 mid-century modern sideboard by Bassett Furniture was a great yard sale find, but it needed a lot of restoration work. The great thing about these solid wood pieces is that they can withstand multiple makeovers over the years and will still be as solid as the day they’re built if they’re taken care of!

This set was beautiful as is, but I envisioned a moody soft black paired with a dark stain, so that’s exactly what I did!

And paint can always be removed down the road. I do it all the time 🤭

This orange antique sideboard desperately needed a makeover.

Adding wooden slats to furniture is a great way to update the look, and it’s not that hard. I typically use wooden slats from the local hardware store (they can cut them for you, too😉). Voila, a modern MCM style buffet with fluting!

I love how it turned out! The addition of slats really adds a modern twist (and hides the less than perfect veneer). What do you think? Let me know in the comments?
