Happy New Year, Jenna. The gluttony sounds incredible! Interesting that you wrote “hygge-ness” 🇩🇰because my brain went to the last all you can eat place in Denmark I was at where you cut your own bread and cheese, no sneeze-guards, just a whole lot of being treated like an adult. When I leave America for Denmark for the last time, it will be 100% because our health care system is draconian and cruel and I’m tired of trying to not get killed by it. It remains amazing that a country that surrounds us with all its riches refuses to take care of the only reason it exists; its people. Truly gobsmacking that our “leaders” can’t read the room that when the revolution happens, it will be entirely about health care.

Oh, and you changed your profile photo! I’m one of those people who knows folks here by their photos and less by their names… I almost missed you but now that my brain has imprinted your profile photo, don’t go changing it anytime soon 😀😀😀😀

I am terrified of our healthcare future, but I can’t let it consume me. What other choice do I have? Good luck on your upcoming move, and happy new year!

A little blind optimism is going a long way this morning 😅

I love Josh Johnson, but usually just watch snippets on Instagram. Thanks for suggesting this full-length piece. I can’t wait to watch.

He is SO good. Funny, but also compelling.

Happy new year, Jenna. I feel the need to tell you that U2 was my high school obsession band and first life-changing rock concert.

Happy New Year! also Happy New Year? I have had a hard time celebrating it and we've been kind of somber around these parts, and also faking it a little for the kid's sake (although they get it.) Thank you for your posts, and making me feel connected to at least some people in the world.

Expand full comment

Happy new year! And yes...the faking a little for the kids is so relatable. I guess since they are older I feel less compelled to do that, but that in and of itself is also a bit of a downer. From what you have left in comments throughout the year, it seemed like it was challenging. I hope you find a better balance and more joy this year!

me too!!! I know I'm going to try to spend more energy on myself....but graduation is coming soon (well, August) and I think some of the grief I've had will be over then.

I'm often in New York on the weekends but I always miss the holidays in the city because my family and friends live outside the Tri-State, so your Christmas Eve morning walk was a delight to read (and to feed whatever FOMO may exist). And yeah, your news strategy for the next administration is essentially the same as mine. Just have to pick and choose my battles while trying to stay relatively informed, no matter what lies ahead. Here's to a 2025 where we can celebrate small victories easily and stake claims to a few surprise big ones against the tide that THOSE guys and their cronies want to drag us under.

Expand full comment

We all need our own strategy and I'm sure we'll need to fine-tune it as it begins to play out. Who knows, I might want to completely tune out. The news on the first few days of the year already is sobering 😞

Yeah, what a rough start to 2025. The mantra of "Things can only go up from here!" doesn't look applicable to the world, especially with January 20 rolling around the corner, but I'll try to keep hoping against hope. Somewhat related these days, I'm finally valuing a full 7-8 hours of sleep a night now if it turns me off from the news for a few more hours, haha.

I’m right there with you on the news watching. I feel lost without some kind of tuning in so I opt for radio - mostly NPR and only when I have had an hour of therapy, meditation and have a warm matcha tea in hand. 😌 Have a peaceful January.

Radio is a good alternative. Sometimes I'll put on new on YouTube and listen, but not watch. Thank you Juliette, happy new year.

Every bit of this, Jenna! Thank you for putting words to that winter miracle of snow, the simplicity and profoundness of nature, in this real and honest post. Your writing....that snowfall, your recalling of your youth and a monumental song is a beautiful message of hope in itself. May everyone come away from this piece filled with it, I know I have.

Many blessings and MUCH LOVE,

~Wendy💜
