Mauro Ceruti is Professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the IULM University (Free University of Languages and Communication, Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione) of Milan, Italy, where he is the Director of the Department of Classical, Human and Geographical Studies (Dipartimento di Studi Classici, Umanistici e Geografici).
He is one of the promoters and pioneers of contemporary trans-disciplinary research on Complex Systems. His main research topics are:
-Complex Systems Theories, Methods and Epistemologies;
-Philosophy of Biology;
-Epistemology of the Cognitive Sciences;
-History and Philosophy of Globalization.
He is author of more than 300 scientific publications in Italian, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Romanian, and Turkish.

In Europe and the Western world, the year 1492 is remembered for the discovery of America and the... more In Europe and the Western world, the year 1492 is remembered for the discovery of America and the dawn of the modern age. However, the meeting of the histories of the European and American continents represented by that date is really the discovery of the Earth. It marks the threshold of the modern age of Europe, but above all the start of the planetary age of humanity. Before this threshold, the human species spread over the surface of the Earth in the manner of a diaspora. Homo sapiens, the most recent hominid species, arose in a particular ecosystem of a particular continent (the East African savanna), and spread from there to the rest of the planet: Asia, Australia, Europe, Alaska, Patagonia, Hawaii, Madagascar. It established in ecosystems where conditions vastly differed from those of the savanna: the Arctic tundra, mountain environments, desert, tropical forests. In this planetary diaspora, Homo sapiens became fragmented, generating populations that were diversified both in genetic and in cultural-linguistic terms. The ways of life of each population and their forms of religion and spirituality were marked by the local traits of the ecosystems in which they lived.
