Dr. Awais H. Gillani earns a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Wuhan University, China. He also holds M.Phil. in American Studies (QAU), M.Sc. in Mass Communication (AIOU), an M.A. in English Literature (IIUI). He has worked as Producer/Director Programs at Pakistan Television (PTV), Islamabad center. He also served as a lecturer in English at various Pakistani military and civil institutions. Implying qualitative research methods, he investigates the socio-political, anthropological, diplomatic and contentious nature of local and international communication. He has published in various Pakistani and International journals and has presented papers in international conferences. Currently, he is working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Media Studies of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan.

The research proposal is a document created with the intention of convincing a prospect that the research project being proposed by the candidate is worthwhile which must also focus on the candidate's capability to successfully execute the project by outlining the clear research plan to achieve set goals [1]. The inclusion of unnecessary information that is not relevant to the research being proposed also becomes the cause of the chaos that ultimately results in proposal rejection [2]. The details in a research proposal have to be extremely relevant to the subject. It must be noted as per previous studies that the research proposals are considered of good quality if and only if the writer has focused on the subject by qualitatively selecting citations to support the claims instead of quantitatively adding partial or fully irrelevant literature as in references; as of just to increase the word count of the document [3]. Research Proposal Format and Sections The research proposal is a document intended to convince the prospect that you have a worthwhile research project and capability with an organized research plan to achieve the targeted goals. Most of the research proposals lack the necessary information by skipping on essential sections in a research proposal as per previous studies and that becomes the reason for their proposal rejection. This article provides insights into writing a well-structured research proposal that contains all the essential sections. This article spotlights the major elements that must be covered in a research proposal document. These sections are the title, abstract, introduction, statement of objectives, analysis of literature, research methodology, research plan, budget estimations, research team particulars, funding source, co-worker acknowledgments, and references. Sections of a Research Proposal A well-composed research proposal begins with a short and to the point (self-explanatory) title. Whereas the introduction part must demonstrate in-depth but clearly supportive literature review to highlight the problems or challenges, objectives and significance of the research study being proposed. This study extends a conceptual framework of instructional communication to Chinese professors' i... more This study extends a conceptual framework of instructional communication to Chinese professors' interactions with international students in the classroom. Chinese professors (n = 313) in nine Wuhan-area universities completed a questionnaire on their classroom instructional relationships with their international students. Key findings are: (a) Chinese professors most frequently discussed with their colleagues methods for improving their instructional communication with their international students and least frequently the instructional difficulties the students faced; (b) female professors tended to spend more time than their male counterparts in trying to make the international students' classroom experience more fulfilling; and (c) female professors engaged more than their male counterparts in one-on-one discussions with international students (r = .551, p < .01). This chapter presents pedagogical implications of these results for practices in Chinese universities and in higher education institutions with significant international student populations.

This study is an endeavor to understand the obscure and mysterious concept of truthful information and working of press on the crucial matters of American foreign policy and national interests. This truthful information might be truthful and actual reality for one nation and untruthful and deception for another. Mediated truths are wrapped in myths and value systems of the society which is prone to trap in propaganda and agenda of information disseminators/manufacturers in American democracy. Freedom of expression is the hallmark of American democracy but freedom of thought is hijacked by the information controllers and mind manipulators to get the public support for covert and overt objectives either for direct personal benefit of oligarchy or for national interests which might also be indirect personal interests of the opulent class. Employing pragmatic and historical criticism methods with theoretical frameworks of propaganda and agenda setting this study performs a critical and analytical analysis of prime events in American history covered by the press from colonial era till the presidency of Mr. Barack H. Obama to discover the reality of truthful information and its effects on the American society and the world. The study discovers that to achieve the national and personal interests, people’s thoughts have been enslaved through the army of words and images dressed in mendacious information, fabricated and false facts and danger. People are just pawns and the actual power lies in the hands of powerful and rich class and media is serving their interests by destroying the critical thinking capacity of the minds of people on the matters of national security and foreign policy. People think what they are told to think about because journalism is in invisible chains in American democracy since the very beginning resulting humanity is suffering.

Is Pakistan Terrorist? Front-page Perspective of Mainstream American Newspapers during Obama’s First-year, Aug 31, 2015

US President Barack H. Obama’s first year of presidency, January 2009 – January 2010, observes un... more US President Barack H. Obama’s first year of presidency, January 2009 – January 2010, observes unprecedented surge in overt and covert counterterrorism operations of American military and intelligence and drone strikes in Pakistan which is a non-NATO ally and a frontline state in the “War on Terror” since 9/11. For the last two and half years, Mr. Obama’s counterterrorism policies are being criticized by American academia, politicians and media and giving a speech at National Defense University in May 2013, President Obama vows to rebuild Pak-US relations. This article takes a closer look that what went wrong between the two countries and how the mainstream US press covered the phenomenon and played its social and democratic role for informed citizenry during Obama’s first year. Since US press works on the behalf of American public and creates a liaison between government and the people on important foreign policy issues thus it is pertinent to explore that how American mainstream newspapers opine about Pakistan’s position in South Asia, Pakistani politics and army/ISI, nuclear assets and US aid diplomacy in relation to Obama’s counterterrorism war to win the “War on Terror.” Applying Thematic Analysis method with the framework of Social Responsibility Theory of Press, propaganda and propaganda principles of Anne Morelli, the study finds that the press instead of reporting on Pakistan is running an anti-Pakistan information operation parallel to the military, foreign policy and strategic agenda of the “Golden Triangle” (the White House, the State Department and the Pentagon) to force Pakistan to bow in front of American demands to fight the “War on Terror” at the cost of its men, material, internal and external security and political stability. The mainstream newspapers support the idea of the “Golden Triangle” to control Pakistani politics, army and nuclear assets and they are manipulating public perception and opinion accordingly instead of doing objective reporting. Thus the study discovers obnoxious criticism against Pakistan based on incorrect, superficial and subjective reporting that portrays Pakistan as a country that uses terrorism as its official policy hence it is a threat to regional and world peace and poses danger to US security, foreign policy and strategic interests in the South Asian region.

Social network sites (SNSs) are penetrating deep among the lives of internet users owing to its s... more Social network sites (SNSs) are penetrating deep among the lives of internet users owing to its social compatibility with modern online needs in the shape of constructing profile by providing their bio-data and hanging out with old and new friends in order to share and gain information. This study aims to investigate the usage pattern of SNSs and the adoptability of the users. A descriptive analysis was run on the random sample of 200 respondents surveyed in a large public sector university of Sindh, Pakistan. Results revealed that users feel proud by using SNSs and routinely log-on to their account at least once a day so as to know what is new on their wall from their around-the-hundred-contacts' activities. They felt as a part of larger SNSs community where they could find new friends, thus bridging social capital was prominent as majority of the respondents did not know their Facebook friends personally.
