I have only one complaint. The mouse sensitivity is hard as hell to manage. You barely move your mouse left or right and the entire room does a complete 360...
Aside that mechanical issue, I LOVE the game's premise and story. Chilling.
I have only one complaint. The mouse sensitivity is hard as hell to manage. You barely move your mouse left or right and the entire room does a complete 360...
Aside that mechanical issue, I LOVE the game's premise and story. Chilling.
So here I am bored of my Steam games and tired of my music and wanting a new game, open Itch. And lo, I see a new web came titled "what body?" and well, it sounds right up my alley! What's this? A crime scene cleanup game? Count me in! And it just... it has charm, it has jokes, it has no less than THREE different endings... and the visuals! 5 stars all around!
I likely won't play again. The ending I got... is my ending. Like it or not. This is the one path my story led to. I love this game and its concept idea, delving into a possible interaction between biological and artificial intelligences. Trying to understand "love" while the human tries understanding "statistical analysis"... something witty, charming and somehow sweet about it. I sing high praise.
And as for those questions...
1. Did believing you could play this only once impact how you made decisions?
Yes, it did. I legitimately sat at one of the questions for a whole minute because I wasn't sure if I wanted to lean fully into emotionless bot, or one that could slowly open up and actually learn and/or at least appreciate human emotions.
2. What do SAL and Ash look like in your mind? Did you mentally assign a gender to either or both characters?
When I first read about them, I had an immediate mental image... and it made little sense that it came so quick, but there it was. Ash is a tall, broad-shouldered man with a bald head and a scruffy, slightly itchy stubble one day after shaving. SAL was female. Normally I would hope to read a homosexual romance story, being homosexual myself, and yet SAL was automatically made female. The exposed wires make "her" essentially look like a prototype synth from Fallout 4. And yet at the same time, she sounds and looks so beautiful. And so human.
3. What choices did you make? How did your game end?
Primarily I was focusing on trying to ignore emotion or act as I would assume an AI would, purely logical and statistical. And yet even as I say that, my very very first choice was to tell Ash that yes, indeed, everything is fine. Lie to him. But in a sense, perhaps that's also logical. The truth could hurt him and thus pretending to be "ok" would better help his emotional state?
Anyway. The ending essentially stated that the two would attempt this relationship, but that SAL wasn't quite sure how they "felt" yet. Thus Ash left with the promise to come back tomorrow.
4. What did you like and dislike about this game?
Legitimately no dislikes. Brilliantly written, a seemingly well thought-out storyline and narrative pathing, interesting characters and character dynamics. It's beautiful.
5. How did this game make you feel?
Sad, intrigued, confused and a little excited, all at once. Good job!
6. Do you want to see these characters again? What would you want to see in a follow-up?
Yes, definitely! I would hope for them to speak to others, eventually, about these feelings. Whether separate or together. Have a therapist speak to both artificial and biological mind, then attempt to compare them to each other and explain in both logical and emotional ways what everything means. Perhaps also go to some neurosurgeon or some special scientist to understand how the human emotions are controlled by brain waves, certain neurons firing, different chemical imbalances... hell, theoretically, if SAL or any other AI knew exactly what the makeup was for that emotion, they could either replicate it for themselves or at least understand it much better. "Your heartrate has elevated and there is more activity in (this) section of the brain. This leads me to believe you are either angry, or excited... I have checked your blood sample and I can see an increase in Norepinephrine brings me to a high certainty you are angry. What have I done to upset you?" Something of that sort, see?
7. What predictions do you have for SAL and Ash's relationship? Where do you see it going?
I want to hope and say it will lead to something beautiful. Perhaps, somehow, Ash can take her out of the room and show them the world. They may have seen images or even videos of places if they were allowed to browse the internet, but seeing a stream in real life or the stars or watching someone- in this case Ash- actually dancing silly before you. That live experience might somehow mean something. But at the same time, I have to truly wonder if it is failed to crash. Will Ash be understanding about the lack of physical feeling of emotion, or will basic understanding of them be enough?
8. Any other things you want to mention?
Keep being awesome~ keep making games and art and... whatever you call all this. An experience? I can't wait to see more! (And I mean that immediately. I just found this game, now I'm curious what else you've made)
Well... I'm gonna have to start all over then. From night 1. So apparently if you have it to where leveling up just automatically fires a spell, and one of your spells is to multiply the XP you get.... it can crash the game from all the spells going off at once. I was so excited to get like 20 skill points but nope, game can't handle that insanity~
I admit, I'm more than impressed. Be prepared for a lengthy comment ohoho!
The concept is brilliant. It really is. A roguelike, always a fun time, built with multiple unlockable classes AND a randomly generated skill tree. I've NEVER seen another game with a skill tree, specifically, that did that. Skill trees that restart, yes. Weapon randomization, yes. But an entire branching web of skills to be completely randomized, not procedural or with a few random paths to choose from but truly each new skill in the tree randomized, that's genius. How did you actually pull that off? And do you think this new system is something we could see in future games? Be it yours or others.
The monsters were amazing as well. First playthrough, started with slimes, eyes, then bats. Second I died by night 7- really embarrassing- and I don't remember much of. I just completed my third playthrough and beat it, finally, after literally 4 whole hours of playing (though I did pause to eat...) And that started with the eyes. No slimes, it straight up started with a 2-hit enemy. Then skelebobs, eyes and finally bats. Oh, and then ghosts. Fully randomized enemy spawns, too, I love that.
And then we move on to replayability. I just beat the game as the archer, now I have unlocked the wizard- a new character, with new attacks and spells. I unlocked the first level of mastery, which promises a third character once I beat it. And even when I do beat it with all 4 characters, that still gives me the chance to play again anyway, as all the skills are yet still randomized. I could get lost in this game for a week or two, I think. Not something you expect from a browser game. So overall, very well done and bravo, you peculiar amalgamation you! (A turtle fox, you see.)
I am very eager for more from you and will be checking for other games in your collection. Thank you again!
To be honest, I had low expectations for this game upon first playing. We're put in a room and... told to get out. Really easy start. However, that quickly changed as the psychological aspect of the game got shown rather quick. The room with all the bricked up doors confused me for a bit. I even followed the music to find there it was loudest, thinking that was a hint, but no! It merely led to yet another bricked door. Cheeky bastard!
I did find some item behind one of the doors I randomly checked, not sure what it might have done. An image of... maybe a person? Sorry, truly if that counts as a spoiler. But the whole time I was thinking to myself, "That's the psychological- and it's damn good! Head trippy. But where's the horror?" And I, er, stepped into the next room... as one does... and there's the horror I was waiting for. I spoke too soon~
All in all, an amazing game I'm so glad I played. I'm eager for more because- if you can pardon my language- I LOVE mind-f@#! games! Any more I find will be added to my collections. If you have made others, or know of others to play, I beg you to give me that mental rollercoaster of a game.
10/10 game, truly!
What's the ending to this? I won't spoil anything, I can't do that... but I got the computer. And I brought it to the start. And that didn't explain anything about where to actually go in the club to finish, if there even is an end. That's all I can say. Am I at the actual end now with all 4 things or am I missing something? Thanks in advance
Not at all what I was expecting. I got the good ending, now I feel I have to go back to get the bad one. I truly do hope for more!
Halfway through I was expecting Walker to tell us something like "Oh, I have something to tell you... I kill people *DUN DUN DUN!*" but nah, all that happened was we make out and "head to bed." Not a bad ending, not at all! Just... unexpected I guess? Where's the disturbing imagery I was promised? lol
As of right now, I just got what I will call "the continuation ending." It's basically a complete 180 of the other ending I got. I like how they differ based on what you do, or don't do, throughout the day.
As a side note, I still don't know what to do with one of the items... near the very end you get some item wrapped in cloth I think it was? I tried using it just about everywhere and yet it never seemed to do anything. I carried it with me to the end, in my first playthrough, but I never found a use for it. Is it a useless item or am I just missing something?
That was a fun but very challenging experience. I loved the art style and the overall story. The question, of course, is: is this man truly killing monsters and seeing horrors or is he simply insane? The truth, we may never know. But regardless of whether it was real or imaginary, the game itself was amazing, truly. Stage three was very challenging and seemed to require a lot of stealth rather than brute force, or run-and-gun. And actually, I liked the challenge. It was super frustrating dying over and over and having to retry the same level about five times. But once I got it, the ending was so rewarding. Thank you, game developer yanghoejin, for this amazing horror experience! May you create many more epic games in the future!
This is an epic, yet somewhat sad, story. I've had similar ideas to his in the past but you've executed it very spectacularly. I hope not to give anything away with my comments... but the two endings I got were quite rewarding in their own way. The first happened by going back to bed, which I found funny for some reason. Just ignoring your problems, in a way. The second was what I consider one of the true endings. It was sweet and cute and strangely uplifting. I kept thinking Fio was short for Sofia and that was the big reveal... glad it wasn't, however~ I was not quite expecting the ending, either.
All in all, a great game that I am happy to replay for different endings. I'd love to buy the game when I have more funds, and when I finish all that the browser option has to offer. Until then, I'll enjoy the browser version and what it has to offer. Thank you very much, Hatoge, for this gem of a game!
Adorable. That's really all that needs said~ but I will elaborate further ;3 the design is really cute, everything is drawn really well and pretty realistically, the music is so soft and soothing, the overall feel of the game is really sweet and heartwarming... the ending almost had me in tears. Great game, amazing concept, 10/10 would play again!
This is a brilliant design. I really love the whole aspect of the light mechanic and how you have to angle it just the right way to beat certain levels. This is a really great mechanic and made for some very challenging levels at times. I wish more games had similar challenges or mechanics, even a fully-fledged game like on Steam or something. Hats off to the developer! Can't wait for more from this brilliant mind.
This was really fun, but difficult. My poor mouse... all that clicking lol. But it was seriously fun and a great time waster. I spent an hour and 47 minutes on this xD but I feel accomplished, no more ads forever! I really like the concept of disabling certain ads to uncover new content, like the ad pusher upgrades etc. My favorite part was the minigame to get more keys, seeing just how fast I could click (at max reward, I managed to get 998 keys in one set!) Overall I would rate this a 4/5, my only complaint being how many clicks it takes for everything. I'm personally a lover of idle games where the game just gives you the money or progress over time, but for what it is; a clicker game, I really did enjoy it quite heavily. Props to you, Dreadpon!
This game has an amazing concept. The levels are challenging, yet rewarding. It's fun to see the concept of not always being able to use the keys, since if you knock the letter away from one of the pre-determined squares you can't use that key to move anymore. It also got confusing at times trying to remember the seemingly random key-bindings at times, like S moves up or ctrl moves left... still, it made for a very fun challenge.
I haven't yet beaten the game, still stuck on lvl 13. But I think that's as far as I can go. But that's not on the game itself for being too challenging, it's simply on me for not fully understanding the controls. This is a brilliant game idea and I can only hope for more games like this in the future.
As of this second I just got the "true ending." I just... wow. I won't spoil it but I really didn't see this coming. It's well worth playing through to get all the endings, even if you have to replay old ones to get them. The game seems to kind of loop on itself and repeat, and sometimes it will feel as though it's looping the exact same thing without change. Trust me, just keep going. Make a different choice here, play a couple more times there, and the truth will finally reveal itself. And when it does... you'll likely feel as stunned as I do now.
This is a brilliant game from an even more brilliant mind. All I can say is a massive thank you to the creator for this masterpiece I experienced. This... this isn't a game. It's a full psychological experience that F*ks with your head and leaves you breathless. I'm not sure how to rate it, sadly, but it would get 10 stars if I could. In short, thank you, CLOWN, for your amazing gameplay
This game... I haven't even beaten it. I only got... maybe five endings? It's trippy, it's violent, it messes with my head. I feel like I'm seeing a part of reality I'm not supposed to, yet it's completely sensical and based loosely around reality. I don't fully understand it, or what any of the endings mean, or how to even unlock other endings.
It also feels strange that we're just strangers every time, that things always reset. Wish there were a way to make friends with.. myself. That's odd to say. But I wonder if there is a non-violent/friendly ending? There must be a true ending. But how many iterations must I go through?
And that's beat! Beautiful game, cute graphics, whimsical dialog... kind of short, but actually, it didn't need to be a long game to get the story across. I personally love games like this, with that interesting take on game elements. Like another here on itch.io, grey-box testing. Having to use glitches to get past levels, purposefully. Or They have no choice, talking about "destiny" and how the characters in the game, and we as players to an extent, have little choice over our actions. I love zany games that show odd quirks like that~ and yours was just as lovable as those! A cute, short little game about... trying to load a game. 8/10, easily!
Well, I found a gamebreaking glitch~ but complete accident... I wasn't recording video at the time, sadly, so this picture will have to suffice:
How it occurred: I went to this squid-head looking guy, he told me no one can enter. I tried walking around him, just down and around to the right. Apparently, if you try going to the right at all, you're supposed to get bumped left. While this is happening, until you travel far enough left, you can't use your keyboard- can't move until she walks herself left. Well, if you're too far down while you try to sneak right, she'll just continually try walking left against the edge of that building. Since she can't go far enough left, I can't use the keyboard at all. And since I can't use the keyboard, I can't tell her to walk further up and over, or try going more down, or anything. She is stuck walking left... forever.
Weird little glitch~ it's my own fault, trying to go past the obvious secret door xD I'm really not mad about it, just want to bring it to y our attention. I'm gonna refresh and play the game proper now, it look super fun and the art style is amazing!
Amazing game. It really puts into perspective the whole idea of "destiny" and the possible ramification of trying to fight destiny. Beautifully crafted, wonderfully drawn, a very original concept! The "secret ending" was beautiful as well
This was hilarious....... uh..... -ly spooky! xD yeah... okay but it all seriousness, my only real "critique" would be the text style. The blocky text is a bit hard to read and with it going as fast as it does, to me, sometimes I can't read the whole sentence before it just disappears. Slightly annoying not being able to read the full story. Aside that, however, this was a super fun game and I had a lot of fun playing it! so yeah... props to you, dude!
An interesting little game, with I'm sure a very deep message. Sadly, I cannot figure out what exactly this message is. However, the game is somehow creepy yet cute, which I really love about it. The ending was especially satisfying, for me. Just wish I knew the whole symbolism.
And on second try, Happy New Year!! Final score of 647~. You made a beautiful game here, Dev. It sorta hits at the feels, actually. Thank you for making this! Hope to see more similar-style games in the future?
Yang beat me~!
Dang this is tough... Reminds me of a cross between Undertale and Deep Sleep, for some reason. You did an amazing job on this ^^
Well... for what it is, very, very well made! At first it was all just whimsical and cute, then it takes a sudden dark turn when you least expect it. The last job sorta ticked me off though, not gonna lie, what with having to constantly run around him. But this was a nice little jumps care, and the overall game mechanics were very well thought out~ 10/10!
Okay, so don't flush the wallet down the toilet xD the interrogation just freezes up with you blinking off into space after the cops explain its flushing. Yeah, I guess I'd be confused, too
