This study is based off an image of the character Marv in one of the sin city graphic novels by Frank Miller. The image depicts marv standing in a rain storm in a long trench coat with the Rain bouncing off his shoulders. The reason i chose this image is that it employs Miller's signature shell shaded/silhouette style and the rain drawn in white is very Indescript and undefined but it also marks a stark contract with the black background of the piece and is also used to illustrate the toning on the jacket and figure. I created my rendition digitally, using a black background and then drawing the silhouette of the character in a slightly different shade of black. I chose to do this because it ensures separation between the character and the rest of the piece, whilst also being to indistinguishable to draw attention and give the impression of a pure dual tone study. I thing used a thin white pen in aggressive downwards strokes to draw the rain, which as I said before allows me to draw the tone on the character while further separating him from the rest of the picture yet blending him in at the same time Rain Silhouette, Storm Illustration, Rain Drawing, Different Shades Of Black, City Graphic, Water Illustration, Black Paper Drawing, Rain Art, Site Analysis
