This research was conducted at 5-19 February 2021 at HSC, 2nd floor, Faculty of Sport Science, Yogyakarta State University. This research was a descriptive quantitative study. The research design used experiment with two groups pretest-postest design. The research samples were for about 30 people, the sampling was based on the incidental sampling. The right arm was treated for 15 minutes while the left arm was used as the control. Pain research instrument used VAS and the function used DASH. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to determine the significance of differences before and after treatment from the control group and the treatment group. The results of the VAS score of the pretest and posttest treatment is at 3.13±1.20 to 1.71±1.14 with a value (p< 0.000). The pretest and posttest VAS control is at 3.30±1.00 to 3.00±1, 70 points (p<0.000). While the pretest and posttest treatment function values are at 16.0±2.35 to 17.5±2.04 values (p <0.008), the pretest and posttest control groups are at 16.1±2.03 to 5.00±4.08. with value (p<0.000). So that the VAS in the treatment group get a decrease with an effectiveness of 32% and the function treatment group get an increase of 9%.

Massage and Active Stretching with the Combination of Deep Tissue Massage and
Passive Stretching Towards the Recovery of Chronic Hip Injury. Thesis. Yogyakarta:
Postgraduate Program of Sports Science, Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences,
Yogyakarta State University, 2023.
This study aims to determine (1) the effectiveness of combination therapy of self
massage and active stretching for the recovery of chronic hip injury, (2) the effectiveness of
deep tissue massage combined with passive stretching for the recovery of chronic hip injury,
(3) a comparison on the effectiveness of combination therapy of self massage and active
stretching with a combination of deep tissue massage and passive stretching on the recovery of
chronic hip injury. Indicators of recovery are the level of pain and function.
This research was a quasi-experimental study with two groups experimental design
with two different sample groups with different treatments. The research sample consisted of
42 non-specific chronic hip injury patients who were randomly divided into two groups of 21
people. Group A used combination therapy of self massage and active stretching and group B
used combination therapy of Deep Tissue Massage and passive stretching (DTMS). The
treatment was conducted three times with a duration of 30 minutes. Measurement of pain scale
was by using the NRS (numeric rating scale) instrument and measuring lower back function
using the Harris Hip Score instrument. Data analysis techniques used different tests Paired ttest, Wilcoxon, independent t-test, and Mann-Whitney.
The results show that both the self massage and active stretching treatment and the Deep
Tissue Massage combination of passive stretching significantly reduce pain and function (p <
0.05). The results of the comparison of pretest and posttest data on self massage and active
stretching and the combination of Deep Tissue Massage and passive stretching on indicators
of pain and function has a p-value > 0.05, so it is concluded that the two types of therapy do
not have a significant difference. Based on the results of the study, it is suggested that the use
of self-massage and active stretching methods of therapy with a combination of Deep Tissue
Massage and passive stretching can be applied to non-specific chronic hip injury according to
situations and conditions by considering the advantages and disadvantages of both types of
therapy.
