This study demonstrates the effectiveness of hybrid architecture as an urban catalyst in revitalizing historical cities, as a mimetic between cultural identity preservation and modernization, as employed in the townof Bukit Mertajam. By intertwining diverse elements, hybridity creates "single entities constantly changing and evolving as one," attempting to revitalize the city rather than re-proposing a single concept or idea. Numerous historic towns experienced an urban decline as a result of urbanization, modernization, and rapid social and economic transformations. Indirectly, the gentrification of traditional businesses into boutique hotels and cafes led to the collapse of local businesses and cultures. Most gentrification projects prioritize tourists' interests over the local community. Th...

Most of the planned constructions at Pantai Lido undertake without any consideration to protect and conserve the local cultural landscape elements as part of the development design strategies. This is due to the regeneration or development blueprint at the waterfront area in Malaysia are still lack in emphasis on the importance of cultural landscape as part of its development and design guideline. The objective of the study to exploring the factors faced by the local stakeholders in maintaining the landscape elements of Malay Culture in Pantai Lido. The study was conducted through qualitative research methods to dismantle the implementation gap that still exists in sustaining the cultural landscape elements in Pantai Lido. The findings determined the Malay cultural landscape elements at Pantai Lido is not able to cope with the massive wave of transformation due to tremendous pressures from the development and weaknesses in planning and design blueprint by responsible authorities. At this point, perhaps Pantai Lido needs proper management and references, sympathetic to the people living in the area, rather than facilitating the flow of gigantic development within the Malay cultural landscape core of Pantai Lido. Thus, it is essential to recognise that time change is inevitable; this continued strain on the waterfront requires a set of principles for governance be to develop that will ensure future sustainability.

The learning model and Islamic values of spatial design determine design formulation of learning space area. This is interesting to discuss learning model and Islamic values of spatial design to support learning space model. This is important to study because it can affect the personality of students after graduating from pesantren. This article is literature review article with a qualitative approach. The results show that to create a learning space design, a review of the learning model and Islamic values of the pesantren is needed. However, the formulation of learning space design depends on what pesantren category you want to build. that is because between one pesantren and another pesantren have different types, curriculum, and learning methods. Besides, the application of aspects of Islamic principles that may be different also determines the formulation of learning space design.

Indeed, most of the residential constructions rely on traditional construction systems. In the past, the traditional system used to supply thermal comfort for residents during summer and winter seasons. However, due to the fact of the growing impact of global warming and technological advancement, this constructional system is no longer viable. Therefore, realizing energy efficiency, specifically in Iraq, is very vital due to non-stop electricity crisis since the 1990s. Hence, this review paper is an attempt to show several strategies to achieve thermal comfort in residential buildings in Iraq through natural ventilation and passive solar systems for both cooling and heating periods, which at the end can help to achieve some kind of sustainability in residential buildings in Iraq, specifically, hot climates in general.

The development of extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS) models as a robust AI methodology are tested for Vs prediction. The proposed models are developed based on collected experimental data from the literature including the beam geometric and concrete properties parameters. There are nine input combinations adopted based on the associated input parameters for the predictive models construction. Support vector machine (SVM) model is conducted for validation purpose. In addition, several empirical formulations are recalled from the literature for comparison. Research findings evidenced the potential of the proposed XGBoost and MARS models for modeling the Vs reinforced concrete beams. The modeling accuracy performance comparison with the established AI models and the empirical formulas confirmed the capacity of the proposed models. Results indicated that all the utilized beam geometric and concrete properties parameters are significant for the predictive model development. In quantitative terms, MARS model attained minimum root mean square error (RMSE = 89.96 KN). In general, the research provided a reliable and robust soft computing model for Vs reinforced concrete beams computation that contribute to the basic knowledge of structural engineering design and sustainability.

Creating liveable neighborhood has become a new urban agenda for the coming decades. Public spaces, including neighborhood parks, play a significant role in improving the social life of a community since they are considered the backbone of the urban park systems. However, there are many underutilized parks. In the past, this issue was mainly considered in terms of physical and social attributes. Less attention was directed to the psychological attachment process of park users. This is due to the multifaceted, multidisciplinary, multidimensional, and multi-paradigmatic nature of research on place attachment, which has led to an accumulation of concepts and definitions. To this end, and within the growing influence of environmental psychology on urban design, the immensity and complexity of place attachment literature can be difficult to navigate and time-consuming. This paper reviews various conceptualisations of place attachment and use, the process of attachment towards places, and the behaviour commitment of users towards parks. This analysis provides further insight into the psychological process of park attachment to encourage holistic approach, underpin innovative concepts, deepen reflection on research paradigm, and guide empirical studies. The central message of this paper is that integrating the psychological aspect of place attachment in the place-making process will help transform values of places into a responsive social environment.
