Objective: The objective of this study is to analyse the correlation between state and trait anxi... more Objective: The objective of this study is to analyse the correlation between state and trait anxiety, depression and personality traits in caregivers of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia. Method: The study sample consists of care-givers of 34 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia according to the DSM IV-TR criteria and 37 healthy voluntary subjects that are demographically matched. The Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAIX I-II) scales were applied to the subjects. Results: In this study, it has been found that STAIX-I and STAIX-II anxiety scores are higher among caregivers. The comparison between the groups has revealed that persistence (P) scores are higher in caregivers (P=0.036). A statistically significant correlation has been found between the STAIX-I score and harm avoidance (HA) (r=0.64, P<0.001); self-transcendence (ST) (r=0.44, P=0.01) and self-directedness (SD) scores (r=-0.58, P<0.001); STAIX-II score and harm avoidance (HA) (r=0.62, P<0.001); self-transcendence (ST) (r=0.47, P=0.005) and self-directedness (SD) scores (r=-0.58, P<0.001) of TCI. Conclusion: Our results suggest that, considering their personal traits, caregivers of patients with schizophrenia should be assessed by clinicians more carefully and comprehensively in respect of anxiety.

We evaluated the three bipolar OCD cases. C1: Because of the OCD symptoms Chlomipramine was started. Her OCD symptoms improved in several days but manic symptoms was apeeared, switched to Lithium Carbonate. In her out patient exams, manic and obsessive compulsive symptoms were almost never observed simultaneously at the course. C2: In 2003, her complaints started as combined OCD and Manic symptoms, Risperidon and Lithium carbonate were started, manic and OCD symptoms improved. In 2005, OCD and Depressive symptoms appeared together. She got improved with Lithium Carbonate and Chlomipramine. She had one episode with obsessive and manic symptoms or obsessive and depressive symptoms every year till now. Her uncle had Depression and her aunt had Bipolar disorder. C3: Because of his OCD symptoms we prescribed SSRI and lower dose antipsychotic. At that time he hospitalized for his manic symptoms, his OCD was partially remitted. His manic symptoms improved with Lithium carbonate1200p/d. He had resistant obsessive compulsive symptoms and episodic manic symptoms. His father had M. Depressive episodes. Conclusion: Our cases suggest that bipolar OCD has episodic course, treatment resistant symtomatology, high family loading and high frequency of recurrence.

Oxidative stress and inflammation are associated with atherogenesis and neuronal stress thus, cognitive functions might be impaired in psoriasis patients. We aimed to compare psychiatric comorbidity, neurocognitive functions, oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokine levels in psoriasis patients with healthy controls, besides to evaluate the effect of oxidative stress and inflammation on comorbidity and cognitive functions in psoriasis patients. Methods: A total of 37 patients (11 male and 26 female) aged between 18 and 65 years with at least 5 years of education who applied to the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic of the study hospital between study period; diagnosed with psoriasis by physical examination and histopathological evaluation were included in the study. The control group was formed from healthy individuals working for the hospital. Sociodemographic data form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Semantic Verbal Fluency Test (K-AS), Öktem Verbal Memory Processes Test, Auditory Consonant Trigram Test and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test were performed to all participants. In addition, blood samples of participants were analysed to assess total oxidant stress (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), oxidative stress index (OSI) and proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-6 levels. Results: BDI and BAI scores, TOS, OSI, TNF-α and IL-6 levels of psoriasis patients were significantly higher than controls. Besides, the cognitive domains of learning, recall and verbal fluency in psoriasis patients were shown to be impaired. The increased levels of depression and anxiety in psoriasis did not significantly affect the serum TAS, TOS and OSI levels. Increased IL-6 and TNF-α levels were not significantly related to depression in patients with psoriasis. Conclusion: Psoriasis patients have higher risk factors than healthy controls for cognitive impairment, independent of depression, inflammation and oxidative stress levels.

Mean platelet volume (MPV) and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) have been shown to change in inflammatory diseases like myocardial infarction, stroke and implicated in psychiatric disorders nowadays. Our first aim is to investigate the relation of MPV and NLR with depression and secondly to assess if they change with the treatment of depression. Methods: Forty-nine patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) and hospitalized in a university hospital psychiatry inpatient unit retrospectively included in the study. Control group consisted of 48 hospital workers with no known disease. Complete blood count, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) and Clinical Global Impression-Severity Scale (CGI-S) scores at admission and at discharge were noted and compared for the patient group. Discussion: MPV of depressed patients was higher than controls. When we look at admission and discharge scores of clinical scales, decrement is statistically significant for both HAM-D and CGI-S. There was decline both in MPV and NLR which were both statistically significant. Conclusion: Decreasing MPV and NLR values with the treatment of depression confirm the involvement of inflammatory processes in the pathophysiology of depression.

Method: Using Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory and Temperament and Character Inventory we compared anxiety and depression levels and personality traits of 60 premenopausal patients and 53 healthy premenopausal women. Results: In mastalgia group anxiety, depression, harm avoidance, self-directedness and self-transcendence scores are significantly higher; while cooperativeness score is significantly lower compared with the control group. Negative correlations were determined between anxiety scores and self-directedness, cooperativeness, as well as depression levels and cooperativeness. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that breast pain without organic etiology is related to personality traits and may result in anxiety and depression.
Purpose of the Review In this review, we focus on overlapping features of ADHD and anxiety disord... more Purpose of the Review In this review, we focus on overlapping features of ADHD and anxiety disorders, and will discuss how an anxiety disorder comorbidity leads to diagnostic and treatment challenges in patients with ADHD, in consideration of the accumulated available knowledge. Recent Findings The presence of overlapping symptoms, changes in the diagnostic criteria, and the use of divergent diagnostic tools and informant effects can complicate the diagnosis of this comorbidity. Due to the ongoing debate about the etiology, psychopathology, and diagnostic features of the association between ADHD and anxiety disorders, choosing appropriate treatment options emerges as a challenge. Summary A novel methodology, standardized interview tools, and new statistical analysis methods are needed to define the phenotype of this co-occurrence more clearly. It is important to uncover the developmental nature of this comorbidity with follow-up studies that may explain the etiology and underlying neurobiological basis, and ultimately lead to more effective treatment approaches.

Kayıtlar ikişer dakikalık beş bölümden oluşmak üzere toplam on dakika sürmüştür. Kaydedilen sinyallerden kalp hızı değişkenine ait güç, maksimum genlik ve frekans öznitelikleri çıkartılarak iki grup arasındaki farklılıklar incelenmiştir. Maksimum genlik bileşeni MDB hastalarında sağlıklı gruba göre yüksek çıkmıştır. Her iki grup arasında anlamlı fark bulunmuş ve MDB ile kardiyak otonomik aktivite arasında bir bağlantı olduğu görülmüştür. Abstract In this study blood volume pulse signals were recorded from major depressive disorder patients to investigate heart rate variability to prove the relationship between major depressive disorder and autonomic cardiac activity. The recording consisted of five period with two minutes duration and total recording was ten minute. The difference between two groups was investigated with power, maximum amplitude and frequency components of heart rate variability. Maximum amplitude component in MDD patients was higher than healthy group. Significant difference was observed between the MDB and control group and the relationship between MDD and cardiac autonomic activity was proved.
