The following physical spermatological parameters in wild conditions were found out: Mean sperm volume 2.393 ± 1.64 ml, mean sperm motility 75.038 ± 10.162%, mean movement duration 50.367 ± 13.92 sec, mean sperm density 3.534 ± .272 10 9 /ml and mean pH 8.29 ± .494 whereas in farmed condition, the mean sperm volume were 1.486 ± 0.88 ml, mean sperm motility 68.9 ± 12.46%, mean movement duration 44.66 ± 13.48s, mean sperm density 3.84 ± 0.18110 9 /ml, and mean pH 8.5 ± 0.311. Significantly higher sperm volume and motility percentage were found in the wild (P < 0.05) as compared to farmed fishes, whereas significantly higher sperm density was found in the farmed fishes (P < 0.01) as compared to wild fishes. It can be concluded that the sperms of wild fishes were of better quality than the sperms of farmed fishes.

The gut morphometric parameters viz., total length (a), standard length (b), weight (c), gut length (d), gut weight (e), intestinal length (f), liver weight (g), relative length of the gut (h), intestinal coefficient (i), relative gut mass (j), Zihlers index (k), hepatosomatic index (l) and gastrosomatic index (m) were all significantly correlated, according to the component pattern profile. The biplots that were created helped to explain the variations in the data. From the principal components PC1 and PC2, the variable i (intestinal coefficient) of O. mykiss in all five stages was responsible for the largest variation. This was followed by variations from PC1 that were related to the variables h (relative length of the gut), j (relative gut mass), m (gastrosomatic index), d (gut length), e (gut weight) and f (intestinal length). The largest variation in PC2 was caused by variable b (standard length), and was followed by variation caused by variable a (total length). As a result, gut length (d=0.354431), gut weight (e=0.342041), weight (c=0.333106), total length (a=0.320632), intestinal length (f=0.301986), relative gut length (h=0.241842), Zihlers index (k=0.238940), relative gut mass (j=0.247716) and gastrosomatic index (m=0.233688) all showed high positive component loading. Through the use of basic metrics to assess different gut parameters, we were able to ascertain the feed and nutritional needs of O. mykiss at different developmental stages. Understanding alimentary canal shape is crucial for fish digestion and for optimising fish nutrition as fish digestive systems and feeding practices advance.
The effects of short-term storage on the motility and fertilization rate of Barbonymus gonionotus... more The effects of short-term storage on the motility and fertilization rate of Barbonymus gonionotus semen were evaluated at different storage period. The best quality semen in terms of spermatological parameters were diluted with 5 different extenders viz. skim milk with fish ringer, glucose based extender, Alsever's solution, egg yolk citrate and urea egg yolk at a ratio of 1:4, 1:6 and 1:9. Glucose based extender and skim milk with fish ringer solution at 1:4 and Alsever's solution at 1:9 dilution ratios showed significantly the best equilibrium sperm motility (>80%). Similarly, the highest motility was obtained from semen stored for 30h with glucose based extender in portable ice box with ice at ~2°C. In fertilization trials, Alsever's solution, glucose based extender and skim milk with fish ringer solution presented 5.85%, 33.66% and 9.03% fertilization rate respectively after 24h of storage period compared to fresh sperm. Therefore, it can be concluded that glucose based extender is the best extender than the other extenders used in this study for the short term preservation of silver barb semen.

Accurate GSI and spawning period estimation play a significant role to evaluate reproductive potential of fish. It also helps to understand the productivity trends, dynamics of fish population and spawning stock biomass. Assessment of the GSI of a fish is essential for evaluating the commercial potentialities of its stock, life history, practical culture and actual management of the fishery. The male GSI ranged from ranged from 2.5±.728 to 9.5±.458 and the female GSI ranged from 3.5±4.03 to 16.3±.12.The peak GSI in both sexes was noted in May. Significant variation in female GSI was found in the month of April, May and June (p

A total of 360 samples were collected from July 2018 to June 2019. The length-weight relationship was established as W= 4.6033 L2.9031. The study indicated a negative allometric growth. The condition factor ranged between 1.23 to 1.88 in females and 1.31 to 1.84 in males indicating good condition of the fish. The combined condition factor was found to be highest (1.87) in the month of November and lowest (1.27) in the month of March.

The data reveals that fish weight shows the significant positive correlation with fish length, ovary weight absolute fecundity(r=.878, p<0.01; r=.888, p<0.01; r=.907, p<0.01 respectively). Furthermore significant positive correlation was formed between fish length and ovary weight (r=0.981, p<0.01), fish length and absolute fecundity (r=.976, p<0.01), Ovary weight and absolute fecundity (r=.998, p<0.01). Relative fecundity showed a significant negative correlation with weight, length and absolute fecundity(r=-0.747, p<0.01; r=-0.419, p<0.05and r=-0.460, p<0.05 respectively).

The present study was aimed to determine some growth parameters of S. curvifons inhabiting river Jhelum in Kashmir. Growth was obtained at monthly intervals and the regression of Lt+1 on Lt was used for the estimation of Asymptotic length (L∞) and growth coefficient (K). The estimated values of L∞ and K by Modal Progression Analysis were found to be 493 mm and 0.091 month-1 respectively. The value of to was estimated by von Bertalanffy Growth Function at 0.007529 years.

Eleven morphometric characters studied showed high level of interdependence (R2 = 0.502 to 0.876) among which standard length and pre-anal length were found to have highly significant relationship with total length (R2 = 0.876 and 0.807 respectively), reflecting thereby that the morphometric characters of fish were highly correlated. The length-weight relationship was established as W=1.957L3.028. The correlation coefficient (R2) for length-weight relationship was found to be 0.608, indicating a positive relationship between the two parameters.

They lack backbones (invertebrate) and live at least part of their lives in or on the bottom (benthos) of a body of water.
