Yvonne Ziegler has an academic background in business studies and a PhD in Personnel Management. She has been working from 1991-2006 for Lufthansa German Airlines in Management positions in Germany and abroad. Since 2007 she is a professor of Business Administration/ International Aviation Management at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. From 2010-2013 she was the dean of the faculty business and law. From 2010-2018 she was program director of the MBA Aviation

Moreover, demand by non-muslim consumers is increasing as wholesome, hygienic and contamination-free principles in food production creating consumer confidence (similar to organic food). Contamination should be avoided throughout the supply chain from “farm to fork” and has led to Halal Logistics initiatives.
There has been also an initiative in Europe to define a European standard for halal products. Unfortunately this initiative has failed, because it was not possible to find a common ground for such a standard among different national and independent organizations involved and in combination with inconsistencies within the religious community.
This paper tries to explore, if there is a market requirement for halal logistics in Europe. Furthermore it wants to answer the following research questions:
• What is the importance of the Islamic economy – especially the sector of halal food?
• What does halal mean?
• What are current standards for halal logistics?
• What is the current state of halal logistics in Europe?
