Method: The pilot study was conducted at the Ayothidoss Pandithar Hospital, National Institute of Siddha, Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai-47. Ten patients were recruited in the study those meeting with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Those patients were treated with 40 ml of Perumbadu Nivaran-twice a day for 5-7 days. Result: There was a significant decrease in the bleeding volume as observed by the Pictorial Menstrual Bleeding Assessment Chart (PBAC) before and during treatment. Conclusion: Perumbadu Nivarani has shown non-hormonal, safe and effective in the management of Menorrhagia and also did not cause any adverse reaction to any patients.

Method: The pilot study was conducted at the Ayothidoss Pandithar Hospital, National Institute of Siddha, Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai-47. Ten patients were recruited in the study those meeting with inclusion and exclusion criteria. They were treated with 60 ml of Madhumega kudineer twice a day for 90 days. All the patients were taken Ultra sonogram pelvis before and after treatment. Result: Out of ten patients 9 patients (90%) had regular menstrual cycle, 8 patients (80%) had reduction in BMI, 4 patients (40%) have normal sonographic study and other (60%) patients had considerable reduction in size of both the ovaries. Hirsutism reduced in 2 patients out of 4 patients. Conclusion: Madhumega kudineer has shown good effectiveness in the treatment of Sinaipaineerkatti (PCOS) and also did not cause any adverse reaction to any patients.

"Siddha system of medicine is an evolution and not an overnight invention". In Siddha medicine there are 32 types of Internal medicine and 32 types of external medicine. Chooranam is one among the 32 types of internal medicine. Parangipattai chooranam is a familiar polyherbal formulation in Siddha system of medicine which is selected by the author for standardisation. Aim of this study was to assess the quality of the drug Parangipattai chooranam by conducting physicochemical analysis, preliminary phytochemical analysis and other analytical techniques. Physicochemical analysis and preliminary phytochemical analysis was done based PLIM reference. Other analytical technique like High Performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) finger printing was done using CAMAG. The physicochemical analysis of the drug Parangipattai choornam showed that the pH value of 4.8 indicates the drug is slightly acidic. The preliminary phytochemical analysis showed the presence of Flavonoids, steroids, triterpenoids, coumarin, phenol, tannin, saponin and sugar. The drug was free of microbial contamination; heavy metals and pesticide were below deductible limit. The results obtained indicate that the drug is of standard quality and can be used as reference standard in laying pharmacopoeia standard.

Chooranam is one among the 32 types of internal medicines in Siddha system. In the present study Parangipattai chooranam is used in which crude drug evaluation is done by one of the pharmacognostical evaluations namely fluorescence analysis. The investigation on the fluorescent character of the chooranam showed varied colours like yellow, crimson brown, pale pink, pale yellow, florescent green, orange, turbid white, creamy white, lime yellow under ordinary visible light and in short UVlight (254 nm) and long UVlight (365 nm).

The timeline of its origin seems to be unpredictable. Ancient sages gave us lot of therapeutic valued drugs to treat various diseases. Many diseases, especially in childhood, can be treated properly through Siddha system of medicines. Health of infant and toddlers, from conception to early childhood, depends on the health of the mother. Insufficiency of nutritious elements in the mother's diet will definitely affect the intellect, the structural growth and the functioning of the neural tube in the foetus. Optimal nutrition and healthy atmosphere for the mother is essential for the survival and development of a healthy child. In Siddha literature Veeka mantham is mentioned as one of the types of Mantham in Karuvil thondrum noigal (Diseases due to intra uterine factors). Though these literature were written by ancient sages of South India thousands of years ago, it is quite interesting to know that parallel analysis of these age old poems have revealed its correlation with modern Paediatrics texts and terminologies. Therefore, this literature analysis was undertaken to correlate concurrence of Veeka mantham which is mentioned in Siddha literature with that of the signs and symptoms of Hypoproteinemia.

Siddhadhi ennai, a Siddha sastric herbomineral formulation comprises of 12 ingredients. It is indicated for many diseases including gynaecological diseases such as amenorrhoea, dysmenorrhoea, leucorrhoea and menorrhagia. This review is aimed to bring out scientific evidence for the therapeutic usage of 'Siddhadhi ennai' especially on gynaecological diseases and focused on the pharmacological activity responsible for the curative nature of the drug. Most of the drugs have emmenogogue, anti-spasmodic, anti-microbial and antifertility activity hence justifying its usage in above mentioned disease.

Puberty entails a progressive nonlinear process starting from prepubescent to full sexual maturity through the interaction and cooperation of biological, physical, and psychological changes. On the other hand, puberty triggers a growth spurt, which increases nutritional needs including macro and micronutrients. Increased caloric, protein, iron, calcium, zinc, folate, fat and oil needs have to be provided during this critical period of rapid growth. The traditional foods like ulundhu kali (Vigna mungo), vendhayam (Trigonella foenum-graecum) kali, gingelly oil, rice puttu, raw egg etc., are given at the time of puberty and after puberty to overcome the changes in their body. The goal of this review it to validate the nutritional value for the above mentioned foods and suggesting the essential needs of the traditional foods at the time of puberty.

Cerebral palsy is defined as non-progressive disorder of posture and movement often associated with seizure and abnormalities of speech, vision and intellect resulting from a defect or lesion of the developing brain. In National Institute of Siddha, Chennai about 75% of children visited Kuzhanthai maruthuvam OPD on 2013-2014 for the management of Sirathambavatham which inspired us to undergo research on that topic. Objective: The objective of the study is to analyse the efficacy the drug Brahmi nei and Kollu podi thimirthal in the management of Sirasthambavatham (Cerebral palsy). Method: The pilot study was conducted at the Ayothidoss Pandithar Hospital, National Institute of Siddha, Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai-47. Ten children were recruited in the study, those meeting with inclusion and exclusion criteria. They were treated with Brahmi nei twice a day and Kollu podi thimirthal for 28 days. Grading of spasticity was recorded before and after treatment with the help of Modified As worth scale. Result: There is significant reduction in spasticity of the muscles for all the 10 children included in this study. Paired't' test was performed for determining the statistical significance between before Ridhambaradevi et al. World Journal of Pharmaceutical Research and after treatment. Conclusion: It can be concluded that Brahmi nei along with Kollu podi thimirthal (massage) has a definitive action on spasticity in cerebral palsy children.

Aim and Objective of this study was to assess the quality of the drug Amukkara chooranam by conducting physicochemical analysis, preliminary phytochemical analysis and other analytical techniques. Physicochemical analysis and preliminary phytochemical analysis was done based on the standard text books. Other analytical technique like High Performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) finger printing was done using CAMAG. The physicochemical analysis of the drug Amukkara choornam showed 8.3±3.55% of loss on drying at 105°C, 2.64±0.25% of total ash, 11.8±2.99% of water soluble ash etc. which indicates that the drug has remarkable content of inorganic matter. Moreover the pH value of 5 indicates the drug is slightly acidic. The preliminary phytochemical analysis showed the presence of Starch, Sugar, Alkaloids, Tannic acid, flavonoids, steroids, triterpenoids, coumarin, saponins and phenol are present in the trial drug. The drug was free of microbial contamination; heavy metals and pesticide were below deductible limit. The results obtained indicate that the drug is of standard quality and can be used as reference standard in laying pharmacopoeia standard.

Organic phytochemicals from plants which are used in traditional medicine are believed to be a good substitute to synthetic chemicals. They could offer an effective alternative to antibiotics and represent a promising approach to the prevention and therapeutic strategies for various oral infections. The herbal remedies have an edge over conventional antibiotic treatment that suffer the limitation of low benefit to high risk as compared to herbal treatment that possess high benefit to low-risk ratio. Through several hundred to several thousand years of use, the botanicals in the Siddha System of Medicine have been proven to be safe and effective. The literature shows that several herbal formulations have the capacity to control the production of proinflammatory mediators, thereby managing many inflammatory processes. The use of such herbal anti-inflammatory formulations for a longer period of time was found to be safer than that of chemical anti-inflammatory drugs. The present review highlights the role of Siddha in the management of various oral health problems. The current scientific evidence based review is concentrated on practicable role of Siddha medicine in the management of various oral health problems.

They spend much more money in cosmetics including hair oils, hair dyes etc. In the commercial world, people are much more attracted towards the words “Herbal or Natural”. But to which extent they are really herbal or natural is a real question mark. With preservatives and binding chemical materials, a 100% purely herbal hair pack is practically not possible in the commercial industry.
The common hair problems include premature grey hair, hair loss and hair splitting, alopecia (baldness), dandruff, taenia infections (fungal) etc. The preparation we have selected seems to be a promising remedy for the above mentioned conditions. This basic research paper deals with the literary review of the 3 herbs and also the results of the preliminary anti-microbial sensitivity screening of the Herbal Hair Pack.

The herbal remedies have an edge over conventional antibiotic treatment that suffer the limitation of low benefit to high risk as compared to herbal treatment that possess high benefit to low-risk ratio. Through several hundred to several thousand years of use, the botanicals in the Siddha System of Medicine have been proven to be safe and effective. The literature shows that several herbal formulations have the capacity to control the production of proinflammatory mediators, thereby managing many inflammatory processes. The use of such herbal anti-inflammatory formulations for a longer period of time was found to be safer than that of chemical anti-inflammatory drugs. The present review highlights the role of Siddha in the management of various oral health problems. The current scientific evidence based review is concentrated on practicable role of Siddha medicine in the management of various oral health problems.
