The objective of this paper is to consider the opportunities and the barriers for establishing re... more The objective of this paper is to consider the opportunities and the barriers for establishing regional power exchanges in South Eastern Europe (SEE) with an emphasis on a Regional Power Exchange in the Mini-region comprising of the following four countries: Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo. The main driver for establishment of a Regional Power Exchange is to facilitate the integration of the Miniregion into the SEE regional electricity market. The final goal is to enable the Mini-region to join the Internal European Energy Market. The approach implemented in this paper includes a gap analysis of the differences between current organization of the three market timeframes in the countries of the Mini-region, the regional developments in the SEE region and the EU Target Market Model.

The paper presents a generic gossip algorithm, its general and some more specific properties. In addition, general classification of the gossip algo-rithms is also presented. The final part of the paper presents an overview of the recent research and implementation of gossip algorithms in power systems.

Their potential to greatly increase the flexibility of the overall energy systems through the utilization of power to heat technologies and heat storage makes them a very important factor when it comes to the planning of future energy systems with high shares of intermittent energy sources like wind and PV. The integration and expansion of district heating in existing energy systems requires extensive mapping of heating demand to ensure its optimal design from a technical and economic aspect and to maximize the utilization of waste heat sources, geothermal energy and so on. The transformation of a power grid into a Smart Grid is embedded by the development of twoway com... more The transformation of a power grid into a Smart Grid is embedded by the development of twoway communication and an architecture that meets current and future needs of both power and communication networks. Smart metering systems (SMS) represent a great opportunity for maximal utilization of existing infrastructure, allowing better monitoring and management. Furthermore, the opportunitiesemerging from new consumption solutions, provide additional capabilities for SMS. This paper provides a review of the basic components of the smart metering systems infrastucture and their communication technologies. Emphasis is on power line communication (PLC)) technology and the opportrunities it introduces in smart mastering systems. The paper also provides a brief overview of implementation of SMS in Macedonia.

The paper proposes new supervisory control schemes for integrated Volt/V-ar con&-olat distributio... more The paper proposes new supervisory control schemes for integrated Volt/V-ar con&-olat distribution substations and feeders. The new supervisory controller located at the substation coordinates the control of local regulating devices based on dynamically changing system conditions rather than local measurements. The supervisory scheme uses the measurements and communications between field devices in order to provide the coordination. Three different versions of this control scheme have been developed in order to accommodate for the varying amount of measurement and communication that may be available on a given system. Test results indicate that the new schemes better coordinate the control actions of the voltage regulator and capacitor banks and thus provide a more effective VoltfVar control.

The operation of distribution systems requires a rather high number of planned or forced switchin... more The operation of distribution systems requires a rather high number of planned or forced switching operations. In order to prepare them, it is necessary to estimate loads at different levels in the system. This paper proposes a load estimation method for distribution systems with minimum information available. The purpose of the load estimation method presented in this paper is the economic and efficient use of the available remote measurements in the distribution system considering typical measurements from the past and knowledge of load composition and load behaviour at the distribution transformers' level. The method is load-flow based, and its capability, efficiency and accuracy are demonstrated by application on a practical distribution system.

The consecutive reforms in agricultural policy have created adequate environment for developing and implementing innovative, environmentally friendly farming methods, allowing the farmers to increase the production and manage the local environment, which is essential for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector. In this paper, wireless sensor network architecture for vegetable greenhouse is proposed in order to achieve scientific cultivation and lower management costs from the aspect of environmental monitoring. According to the analysis of the features of greenhouse environment, a practical and low-cost greenhouse monitoring system is designed based on wireless sensor network technology in order to monitor key environmental parameters such as the temperature, humidity and illumination.

ABSTRACT In the paper, the social issues which can be influenced by Microgrids are identified and... more ABSTRACT In the paper, the social issues which can be influenced by Microgrids are identified and discussed in terms of present socio-economic environment and the general resolutions of the Lisbon Strategy. The analyses are part of the research undertaken in the framework of the MOREMICROGRIDS project and have the aim to contribute to the overall assessment of Microgrids benefits. The experiences from the pilot Microgrid locations have been collected and evaluated by making use of an appropriately developed questionnaire. Further on, in order to investigate the possibilities to increase the social benefits and overall awareness of the Microgrids concept, the problem and objective tree analysis has been implemented. It has shown that the crucial target areas for action are the policies on distributed and renewable energy sources, the attitudes and public acceptance of the new energy concepts, as well as the relations among various stakeholders.
