It animates emotion, communicate and intellect of the person as well. Mid-facial defects, either congenital or acquired often present with severe disfigurement and functional impairment. Chronic granulomatous lesion of the mid-face may present with large defect (Shafer et al., 2000) requiring either surgical reconstruction or prosthetic rehabilitation or a combination of the two to restore adequate aesthetics and function. The choice between surgical reconstruction and prosthetic rehabilitation of large facial defects is a complex and difficult decision, and depends on size, location, aetiology of the defect and socioeconomic condition (Beumer et al., 2011).When a large resection is necessary and recurrence of the tumour is likely, it is advantageous to rehabilitate in such a way which permit regular clinical examination of the site. Prosthesis permits such observation, whereas primary surgical reconstruction m...

The scientific societies and researchers are in constant effort toward improvement, excellence, and simplification of implant therapy. Today, the practitioners are enthusiastic to imbibe the simplified implant procedures and techniques and would like to carry out the same in their private practice. Implant design, bone biology, primary stability, osseointegration, prosthetic options etc., are the several issues taken into account for successful implant therapy. The factors which influence integration are design of implant, material composition of implant, variance in the bone quality (soft or hard), and type of surgical procedure employed (simple or complex). The primary stability is the initial engagement between the bone and implant and one has to ensure that it should be strong and paramount. Implantologists completely monitor the primary stability by synchronizing the above factors. The primary stability is unique and having singular expression is considered as the password of Implant Integration Account. If the primary stability is good, implant can be loaded quickly and to the maximum.

This study was at attempted to determine the most common position of the mental foramen and to estimate difference in position of mental foramen, occurrence of anterior loop and to evaluate the variation in the location of mandibular canal using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) radiographs. Materials & Methods: A total of 205 north Indian subjects were selected during a period of two years. Formerly exposed CBCT images of the selected subjects were studied by ‘iCAT Vision’ and ‘Anatomage’ Software. Measurements from the mandibular canal to the root apices of the first premolar, second premolar, first molar and second molar were obtained. Likewise the distance from the inferior alveolar canal to the buccal cortical plate (BCP) and lingual cortical plates (LCP) were also studied. The estimation of the horizontal and...

Patients with missing teeth prefer this treatment. Certain medical conditions affect management. The present study was done to record complications following dental implantation in medically compromised patients. Material & methods: This study was conducted on 180 patients (640 implants) which were divided into 2 groups. Study group which consisted of 90 patients with 320 implants and control group which consisted of 90 patients with 320 implants. The success rate and complications of the dental implants were evaluated clinically and radiographically. Results: In group I, males were 50 and females were 40 and in group II, males were 60 and females were 30. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). In group I, 35 patients were diabetic, 20 were of osteoporosis, 10 had hypothyroidism and 25 had CVDs. The difference was statistical significant (P0.01). Group I had 76% survival rate and group II had 90%. The di...

Dental implants are widely used in dentistry. There are various factors which affects the outcome of implant therapy. The present study was conducted to assess the presence of bacteria around dental implants. Materials & Methods: The present study was conducted on 20 patients who received dental implants in the last 2 years. They were divided into 2 groups of 10 patients each. Group I comprised of patients in which subgingival plaque sample was obtained around dental implant and group II had those patients in which subgingival plaque sample was obtained around teeth adjacent to dental implant. Samples were subjected to microbiological analysis using PCR. In all patients, plaque index, sulcus bleeding index and probing pocket depth was measured. Results: In group I, mean plaque score for P. gingivalis was 2.16 and in group II was 1.78. The difference was nonsignificant (P> 0.05)...

The present study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate (Hexy-MW) and herbal (Hiora) mouth wash in study population. Materials & Methods: The present study was conducted on 30 subjects age ranged 20-40 years of both genders. All subjects were divided into 2 groups. Group I (15) had subjects who were prescribed 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate (Hexy-MW) and group II (15) had subjects who were prescribed herbal (Hiora) mouth wash. In both groups, PI and GI were assessed. Results: The mean PI in both groups. In group I, on 0 day, the value was 0.02 which on 15th day was 0.11 and after 1 month was 0.17. In group II, on 0 day, the value was 0.03 which on 15th day was 0.13 and after 1 month was 0.19. In both the groups value increased but the difference was nonsignificant (P> 0.05). In group I, on 0 day, the value was 0.13 which on 15th day was 0.08 and...

The present study was conducted to assess complications associated with dental implants. Materials & Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 180 dental implants inserted in 112 patients. In all patients, complications such as fracture of implant, loosening of screw, peri-implantitis, fracture of prosthetic part, mucocitis and ulcers were recorded. Results: Out of 112 patients, males were 68 in which 102 dental implants and females were 44 in which 78 dental implants were inserted. The difference was non-significant (P> 0.05). Out of 68 males, 12 and out of 44 females, 7 had complications. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). Common complications were fracture of implant in males (2) and females (1), loosening of screws in male (1) and female (1), peri-implantitis in males (3) and females (2), prosthetic part fracture in male...

The present study was conducted to determine cases of tooth loss in study population. Materials & Methods: The present study was conducted on 1044 cases reported to the department. All were provided with questionnaire to report the causes of tooth loss. Patients were provided with either RPD, FPD or complete denture depending upon number of tooth loss. Results: Males were 544 and females were 500. Common causes of tooth loss were caries (425), periodontitis (360), malocclusion (155) and tooth trauma (104). The difference was significant (P< 0.05). Age group 20- 40 years consisted of 342 patients and 40- 60 years had 702 patients. 580 were uneducated, 244 had education upto primary school while 220 had upto high school. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). 594 patients had partial loss of teeth and managed with RPD (254) and FPD (340) and 450 were completely edentulous managed with complete denture. The di...

With these advances, the requirement for more exact analytic tools, specially imaging methods, have end up plainly obligatory. These simple radiographic strategies experience the ill effects of characteristic confinements like: Two dimensional projection, superimposition, magnification, and distortion of anatomic structures. The advancement of 3D imaging modalities has made enhanced elucidation of auxiliary and biophysical changes, guarantees densitometric evaluations of dentoalveolar structures incorporating varieties in alveolar bone thickness, a peri‐ implant bone mending all the more definitely. The aim of this review is to focus on the requirements, applications, advantages and disadvantages and artifacts of the currently available digital imaging techniques. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...
