This necessitates the application of recommended procedures for infection control in dental schools and clinics. Objectives: The aim is to evaluate the awareness, knowledge, and attitude of the undergraduate dental students toward infection control measures in the prosthodontic clinic and to assess their satisfaction toward applying these measures during prosthodontic treatment. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire-based study was conducted among 180 third, fourth and fifth year dental students (119 females and 61 males) in November 2015 in a private dental school of Rani Durgawati University, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), India. It included 25 close-ended questions related to vaccination status and previous sharp injuries, awareness, knowledge, and attitude toward infection control in the prosthodontic clinic, previous education about infection control, and subjects' satisfaction with their knowledge and attitude. The questionnaire was distributed among 3 rd , 4 th , and 5 th year students and informed consent were obtained before commencing the questionnaire. Results: A total of 180 participants responded to the questionnaire. Their perception toward infection control practices in the prosthodontic clinic varied from 14.4% to 100%, where former were regularly disinfecting dental cast before sending it to the laboratory and later ones were regularly using gloves while attending the patient. Most of the subjects responded " good " or " fair " to the questions related to the evaluation of their knowledge and policy implementation of infection control in prosthodontic clinic (P < 0.0001). Around 47.8% were almost satisfied, and 28.9% were fairly satisfied with their knowledge and performance. Conclusions: The study findings showed inadequate attitude and awareness of subjects toward infection control in prosthodontic practice. Their self-assessment and satisfaction reflect their performance toward infection control policy. surfaces or contact with airborne contaminants. Due to lack of awareness about importance of prosthodontic replacement, mostly patients do not seek treatment immediately after tooth loss. Patients with different educational and socioeconomic background may have different reasons for not replacing teeth after extraction such as financial issues, lack of time and motivation. Materials and Methodology: A cross sectional questionnaire based survey was conducted at Hitkarini Dental College and Hospital, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) and surrounding population. The total study samples were 480. The subjects were randomly selected from patients reporting to the institute for teeth replacement. The sample population consisted of 278 males and 202 females A selfdesigned questionnaire containing total 14 questions, out of which 8 were knowledge based and remaining 6 were attitude based questions was used for obtaining data. The response to questionnaire was ranked according to Likert Scale. The collected data was put into SPSS software to be analyzed. Results: As the result indicated among the study population reported that 267 participants in the study population has insufficient knowledge which included men and women and 213 had sufficient knowledge about the various treatment options while 58.3% population had positive attitude for replacement of missing teeth and 74.8% population feels that oral hygiene maintenance for artificial prosthesis is must. Conclusion: From the analysis, it has come to the fore that the knowledge level might vary among the subjects based on demographic factors like income, education, gender and age. However, their attitude towards dental and prosthetic treatment is positive especially in cases involving no surgical procedure as it enhances their appearance and functionality. But positive attitude towards treatment does not amount to opting for treatment.
Selection of proper sized maxillary anterior teeth is one of the difficult clinical steps in comp... more Selection of proper sized maxillary anterior teeth is one of the difficult clinical steps in complete denture esthetics. Several studies have been reported to establish methods of estimating the combined width of maxillary anterior teeth. The aim of this study was to determine whether a relationship exists between the innercanthal distance (ICD) and interalar width (IAW) with the combined width of maxillary anterior teeth. The maxillary anterior teeth of 600 adult subjects were examined. ICD was measured between the median angles of the palpebral fissure. IAW was measured between the ala of the nose at their widest point. The mean combined width of the maxillary anterior teeth was determined intraorally at their widest dimension. Pearson's correlation coefficients were calculated to determine the relationship between ICD, IAW and the combined width of maxillary anterior teeth (α =0.05). Although the Pearson correlation coefficients were relatively small, a significant relationship existed between innercanthal dimension and IAW (P < 0001). Within the limitations of this study, the results suggest that ICD and IAW cannot be used as a preliminary method for determining the width of the maxillary anterior teeth for edentulous patients.
Endodontically treated teeth with the loss of coronal tooth structure when left untreated for a l... more Endodontically treated teeth with the loss of coronal tooth structure when left untreated for a long period may cause supraeruption, drifting, tipping, and rotation of adjacent and opposing teeth. This may be challenging to the clinician, when fabricating a crown because of inadequate interocclusal space. Tooth with less remaining crown height is indicated for post and core followed by crown to restore normal anatomy, function and esthetics. Patients with reduced interocclusal clearance and having very steep incisal guidance are most difficult to manage. Richmond crown is a feasible approach for such cases that can be performed with very less incisal clearance to accommodate post, core and crown thickness. In this article diagnosis, treatment planning for such case has been discussed along with fabrication technique of Richmond crown.

Tooth movements in divergent directions create stresses, that are transferred to the abutments & cause failure of the weaker retainer as the pier abutment act as a fulcrum. Thus the use of non rigid connector in case of pier abutment is recommended. It transfers shear stresses to supporting bone & permits abutments to move independently. This case report presents a simple method to rehabilitate pier abutment cases using customized semi precision attachments.

Osseointegrated implants have given an alternative choice for patients who have lost their teeth. Most commonly encountered problems while doing a transfer from patient to the master cast in restoring implant-supported crowns are an uneven distribution of occlusal loads and undue torquing forces on the various elements of implant. This is caused due to poor fit of frameworks connected to implant, which further leads to marginal bone loss, loosening of screws, fatigue fracture of implant components, and ultimately implant failure. This paper presents a simplified and easy solution to overcome such problems by introducing an innovative gingival retraction system for restoring implant-supported crowns to achieve superior and predictable long-term outcomes.

Patient with complete edentulism undergoes many esthetic consequences among which sunken appearance of cheek has a great psychological effect on the individual that can add ages to a patient age. Prosthetic rehabilitation of such patient not only confines to replacement of missing teeth but also restoring the lost cheek support. This article focuses on simple, effective and a noninvasive method for restoring the slumped facial musculature by incorporating cheek plumper in the dentures and an innovative technique for the fabrication of detachable cheek plumper through custom made attachment. Olympic competition and professional sports have turned from mere dreams into goals. Many major professional sports leagues are expanding. Sports dentistry is a composite of skills for treatment, prevention, education and research in which dentistry and sports come together. Custom athletic mouth guards present additional health-care opportunities. They are designed to reduce the impact force of a direct blow to the jaw and create a gap between the condyle and skull thereby reducing the transference of the impact to the brain. The prevalence and severity of injuries to the teeth, jaws and intra-oral and peri-oral soft tissues, concussions and neck injuries are reduced when mouth guards are used. The dentist can play a proactive role in helping to deliver important expanded health care services.

These impairments greatly affect the patient's Quality of life (QOL). The thrust in cancer care is not simply on survival but on rehabilitation, which aims to improve multiple impairments and QOL. This article describes a case of a 58-year-old female with segmental resection of the anterior mandible, extending to lower lip, resulting in a large intraoral as well extra oral defect. Prosthodontics rehabilitation was done using a two-piece intra oral and extra oral prosthesis oriented to each other using magnets. Use of magnets for retaining the extra oral prosthesis simplifies the clinical and laboratory phase enhancing patient's comfort and psychological morale.

Adverse tissue reactions associated with the use of radiotherapy in the management of patients wi... more Adverse tissue reactions associated with the use of radiotherapy in the management of patients with head and neck cancer are painful and they diminish the quality of life, often discouraging the patient from taking treatment. Customized intraoral stents can help prevent the unnecessary irradiation of the surrounding normal tissues, thus reducing the severity of reactions. Since the use of these stents is individualized, close collaboration between the radiotherapist and the prosthodontist is essential. However, when properly designed and used, these stents are effective in reducing the treatment morbidity.

Perfect diet and nutrition are important factors in the promotion and maintenance of health throu... more Perfect diet and nutrition are important factors in the promotion and maintenance of health throughout the entire course of life. Malnutrition is both a cause and a consequence of ill health. Geriatric population with long term medical and psyco-social problems are chronically underweight and so are vulnerable to acute illness. Even people who are well-nourished eat and drink less if they are ill or injured. Although this may only be short lived as a part of an acute problem. If it persists the person can become undernourished to an extent that it precipitates other medical conditions. Issues related to geriatric nutrition are extricable linked to certain broader issues facing the geriatric population. This article provides an overview of geriatric nutrition and related issues faced by this group of people. This review summarizes the changes in diet associated with senior group of people.
