This research reflects the impact it can have on the results, and the possibility of survival of the business through the generations. In this exploratory study in a Mexican context, in which 95% are family business, was possible to identify the mix expected of the compensation of the 404 college students, which is composed of base salary (58.8%), variable compensation (14.8%), features and benefits (13.8%) and long-term incentives (stock-options) (12.6%), and that non-monetary aspects have an important role in various ways to reward in business.

This initiative aims to: 1) support the economic growth, and hence survival chances, of Mexican family-owned microenterprises—changarros: 2) promote, to some extent, “financial inclusion” for those at the BoP in Nuevo León, Mexico; and 3) generate the creation of an enhanced business network between two different kinds (especially in size) of family firms—the convenience stores and the changarros— which will allow them to collaborate and co-opt, instead of compete.

However, when referring to unique organizational forms such as family-owned or controlled firms, the topic is understudied. Considering that approximately one third of S&P 500 are family-controlled firms-i.e. DuPont-, which have survived beyond a lifetime, the author asks herself how these long-lasting family businesses managed to balance the strategic and parallel creation, development and use of their intellectual capital both at the family and business levels in order to support growth and regeneration. She introduces the ICFB-Family Wealth matrix in order to describe their findings.

When evaluating this process, two main targets are sought: quality and effectiveness. In order to meet these quality-effectiveness standards, three elements must be transferred from the predecessor to the Next Generation Member(s): 1) Ownership/power; 2) Management responsibility, and 3) Competence/Knowledge. We focus on the third element: Knowledge, since most of the times, it is "the taken-for-granted" factor. How effective intergenerational knowledge transfer in family firms takes place-under what conditions and through which variables-is the heart of this paper. We have developed a Knowledge Transfer Model in Family Firms (KTFF) which presents several internal and external relationships in the Family-Enterprise-Next Generation System. And, although this is a conceptual text, it may drive future empirical research projects in order to provide support for the proposed interactions (relationships).

You need at least some colleagues who acknowledge the importance of the topic and who, better yet, show an interest in pitching in. You need some institutional support too, from the dean, program director, and someone. Additionally, some students with a genuine interest are a must. Even with this beginning, you must promote the field all over your organization, get the resources you need, and find people who are committed and enthusiastic about what you're doing. All this while bearing in mind that small is “beautiful,” at least at the beginning.

Design/methodology/approach-Grounding ideas on the person-situation historical debate, and drawing on the insights of Luhmann's General System Theory, this paper develops a multileveled framework that categorizes the view of integrity. Findings-The integrity framework presents three categories (levels) of integrity: personal integrity, moral integrity and organizational integrity (OI). This classification serves as a bridging mechanism when trying to link different academic areas (e.g. psychology and ethics) since it provides some agreement on the different meanings and perspectives of the concept of integrity present in the literature. Practical implications-Practical application of the framework is foreseen within the organizational context, where managers could use it for articulating some of the more intangible aspects that compose their organizational cultures, and which in turn, impact their employees' behavior. In addition, the framework is useful to detect possible/future conflicts of interests that may arise due to different personal (employees) and organizational (company) views of integrity. Originality/value-This paper alerts scholars and practitioners to the need of a sound classification of the concept of integrity, plus an agreement on its meaning, scope and uses. Consequently, it develops a multileveled framework to show an understandable conceptualization of the trait, paving the road for multidisciplinary research on the topic.
