Especially information and knowledge intensive tasks are relying heavily on accessing the relevant information or knowledge at the right time. Moreover the capturing of relevant facts and good ideas should be focused on as early as possible in the knowledge creation process. In this paper we introduce a technology to support knowledge structuring processes already at the time of their creation by building up concept structures in real time. Our focus was set on the design of a minimal invasive system, which ideally requires no human interaction and thus gives the maximum freedom to the participants of a knowledge creation or exchange processes. The initial prototype concentrates on the capturing of spoken language to support meetings of human experts, but can be easily adapted for the use in Internet communities that have to rely on knowledge exchange using electronic communication channels.

For spoken input, the software simulates conceptual awareness. A naturally spoken speech stream is converted into a word stream (speech-to-text), the most significant concepts are extracted and associated to related concepts, which have not been mentioned by the speaker(s) yet. The result is displayed on a screen as a conceptual structure.

We describe the necessary stages to deal with the rich morphology of an agglutinative language, i.e. Korean, and point out a second order machine learning algorithm to unveil term similarity from a given raw text corpus. The language resource compilation described is part of a fully automatic top-down approach to construct taxonomies, without involving the human efforts which are usually required.

Applications range from efficient information exchange in meetings to visual information retrieval or orientation in document collections. The automatically extended context addresses various issues simultaneously: a problem is depicted from different points of view, new ideas are associated to those already mentioned, the trail lends an assisting and moderating functionality to a discussion and finally the network of concepts can be saved or printed out for later reference. Obviously, discussions only benefit from this context, if provided in real-time. In this contribution we present the software "SemanticTalk", which provides access to the underlying conceptual structures of unstructured speech streams. Essentially, the most significant concepts of a speech stream are extracted and visualized and related to further associated concepts automatically retrieved from a collection of documents. T...
