Apart from their traditional roles, now they have to be able to conduct research, popularise knowledge and ensure their own professional development. These new demands require competence in academic genres. In this paper we propose a multi-directional arrangement of academic genres - oral, written and mixed - that takes into account the teachers' new roles. We also argue for the inclusion of a seminar on academic genres in college curricula and we briefly discuss the rationale, aims and content selection for this course.

This chapter describes four institutional initiatives undertaken at the Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos (UNER) in Argentina that provide English
language and literacy support for scholars and students with English as an additional language on their way to publish in high-status English-medium international journals. We draw on an academic literacies framework to emphasize the importance of not just training students and scholars to master the appropriate linguistic conventions, but also in addressing the politics of English-language knowledge production.
