Tennis started to lose the battle to other, especially "new" or more "elite" sports and other leisure activities. One of the reasons was that the traditional method of teaching tennis was focused on a technique or production of the strokes (Crespo 1999) without understanding real character of the game and approach has not been changing for many years. Results of studies undertaken by the ITF showed that, in some, especially more matured tennis countries, tennis appeared "not to be a fun game to learn and play for the vast majority of youngsters interviewed" (ITF, 1998). In this paper the authors make a review of the state of art and reflections about the Teaching of Tennis actually.

Des exemples pratiques et des études de cas sont discutés.

The system allows the location of events to be entered on a video overlay where a fixed camera view is used or entered onto a birds-eye view of the playing area. Three experiments were conducted using the video overlay only, the birds-eye view only and a combination of the two. There was a 100% agreement between the observers for the player hitting a stroke, the type of stroke, the outcome of the stroke and the end of the rally in all three experiments (k = 1.00). The use of the video overlay only proved the most reliable for shot entry (mean location error of 53.8cm) followed by the use of the birds-eye view only (mean location error of 67.6cm) and the use of both methods (mean location error of 96.1cm). Therefore, researchers wishing to use the system with television footage ...

The research sought to examine the development of moral reasoning according to the age, education level, training experience, sport type and the form of participation in sport for men and women separately. The participants were 441 persons (n = 315 men and n = 126 women), aged 14 to 33 years (M = 21.52, SD = 4.74), who were asked to fill the Defining Issues Test [58]. The results indicated that the differences between the genders in moral reasoning were not significant. Moreover, the results supported the mediatory role of age in moral development of both men and women, as well as in the effect of athletic experiences and the women's moral development. Deductively, the present study failed to support Gilligan's points of view on moral development concerning gender.

This definition also includes the strain tolerance and the ability of recovery (Astrand 1987, Kozłowski & Nazar 1999). This definition suits well into such sports like long-distance running, swimming, Nordic skiing, and so mostly "cyclic" sports. For these sports endurance is a factor limiting performance and there is almost a linear correlation between level of endurance and sport performance.

These problems might concern the referees, players or coaches. A sample of representatives of each of these three groups was selected for this project aimed to determine the statistical significance of differences between these groups. 655 subjects took part in the study, involved in football, handball and basketball. The subjects’ age ranged between 14 and 52 years (M = 24.24, SD = 7.89). Their sports experience varied from 0 to 30 years (M = 8.16, SD = 5.56). The groups of subjects included referees (N = 147), athletes (N = 458) and coaches (N = 50). All participants filled out seven questionnaire situations containing 19 multiple-choice questions. The questions concerned making decisions to solve a problem during a sports game and were graded on a five-point scale. The results showed significant differences in the ways of decision making by referees, coaches and athletes. Th...

Training should account for children’s cognitive, emotional, social, physical and motor development. This article highlights the cornerstones of early tennis teaching, including fundamental motor skills, which help to develop more complex motor actions, and motor abilities, especially strength fitness, which determines posture, jumping, running and throws. This is achieved through fun plays and games, which should include various coordination tasks providing motor experiences and develop more complex actions in future.
