Ahmet Street in the center of Diyarbakır in 1992. These gold coins, which
were brought to the Diyarbakır Archaeological Museum and are preserved
in its coin section, are referred to as the Melik Ahmet Street Hoard. This
hoard contains 394 gold coins: 2 Fatimid, 1 Great Seljuk, and 391 Byzantine.
The 391 histamena nomismata in the hoard are dated to the second half of
the eleventh century, to the reigns of the emperors Romanus III Argyrus,
Constantine IX Monomachus, and Michael VII Ducas. Based on a detailed
iconographic study, we offer sub-variations for Classes Ib.1, Ib.2, Ic.1, and
Ic.2 of Romanus III Argyrus. In addition, two histamena nomismata, which
belong to the reigns of emperors Romanus III Arygrus and Michael VII
Ducas, differ from existing classifications and are presented as new subtypes
