There is no predictable standardized treatment for periodontitis, but there have been many attempts, using antibiotics, tissue regeneration techniques, dental scaling, or root planning. Due to the limits of the above-mentioned treatment, the future seems to be local drug delivery systems, which could gradually release antibiotics and tissue regeneration inducers at the same time. Epigenetic modifications are considered to have a key role in oral carcinogenesis due to histone modifications, aberrant DNA methylation, and altered expression of miRNAs. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that have a key role in cancer development by regulating signaling pathways involved in carcinogenesis. MiRNA deregulation identified in oral cancer has led to the idea of using them as potential biomarkers for early diagnosis, prognosis, and the development of novel therapeutic strategies. In recent years, a key role has been observed for risk factors in preventing and treating this malignancy. The purpose of this review is to summarize the recent knowledge about the altered mechanisms of oral cancer due to risk factors and the role of miRNAs in these mechanisms.

Recorded data cover the month of April 2020 and is compared with the same period of 2019. Moreover, different thermal expansion coefficients between the enamel, the adhesive, and the bracket bases will cause repeated expansion and contraction, adding more stress to the bonding strength. Debonding represents the failure of the adhesion between the brackets and the tooth enamel. The debonding of brackets from the enamel surface is the result of several factors, such as acid-etching and drying, adhesive application, and the time and type of photo activation. The under polymerization process of composite photo activation may lead to early bracket debonding. Objective. The aim of this research is to review the available studies assessing bracket debonding due to microleakage. Material and Methods. An electronic search in Pub Med database and Web of Science was conducted between September-October 2018. The inclusion criteria were articles written in English, full-text articles, studies published in the last 5 years, studies in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro. The outcome measures in this research were the conditions that determine orthodontic bracket debonding due to microleakage. Results. The MEDLINE search resulted in 510 titles and abstracts that were relevant to the present topic; after selecting the articles published in the last five years, 74 were available for further selection. After the exclusion of all the studies irrelevant for the aim of the paper, 13 articles were finally included in this research. In vitro studies showed that microleakage score was higher in the gingival margin at the enamel-adhesive interfaces and in the occlusal margin at the adhesive-metal bracket interfaces. Conclusion. Bracket debonding remains the main concern during the orthodontic treatment, despite the new techniques.

Background: We aimed to demonstrate that DF stem cells from impacted molars and canines can be us... more Background: We aimed to demonstrate that DF stem cells from impacted molars and canines can be used to improve bone regeneration on titanium implants surfaces. This study highlights the presence of stem cells in DF, their potential to adhere and differentiate into osteoblasts on different types of titanium surfaces. Results: Isolated cells from the harvested DF tissue from impacted canine/molars, expressed stem cells markers. Differentiation into bone cells was induced in presence or absence of BMP-2 and TGFβ1. The presence of growth factors until 28 days in medium maintained the cells in an earlier stage of differentiation with a lower level of specific bone proteins and a higher expression of alkaline phosphatase (ALP). Influence of titanium implants with different bioactive coatings, hydroxyapatite (TiHA) and with silicatitanate (TiSiO 2), and porous Ti6Al7Nb implants as control (TiCtrl), was studied in terms of cell adhesion and viability. Ti HA implants proved to be more favorable for adhesion and proliferation of DF stem cells in first days of cultivation. The influence of titanium coatings and osteogenic differentiation mediums with or without growth factors were evaluated. Additional BMP-2 in the medium did not allow DF stem cells to develop a more mature phenotype, leaving them in a pre-osteogenic stage. The best sustained mineralization process evaluated by immuno-cytochemical staining, scanning electron microscopy and Ca 2+ quantification was observed for TiHA implants with a higher expression of ALP, collagen and Ca 2+ deposition. Long term culturing (70 days) on titanium surfaces of DF stem cells in standard medium without soluble osteogenic inducers, indicated that HA coating is more favorable, with the acquisition of a more mature osteoblastic phenotype as shown by immunocytochemical staining. These findings demonstrated that even in absence of exogenous osteogenic factors, TiHA implants and in a lesser extent TiCtrl and TiSiO 2 implants can induce and sustain osteogenic differentiation of DF stem cells, by their chemical and topographical properties. Conclusions: Our research demonstrated that DF stem cells have a spontaneous tendency for osteogenic differentiation and can be used for improving bone regeneration on titanium implants surfaces.

Extensive research has been carried out in this area and all proposed procedures present limitations. In this context the area of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) research has gained tremendous awareness in the latest years. PRF is a low-cost regenerative modality that facilitates soft tissue regeneration derived from 100% autologous sources. It forms a fibrin mesh that liberates growth factors in a slow and prolonged manner and also contains supra-physiological concentrations of leukocytes. Reports from the literature have suggested that these leukocyte-rich blood-preparations are capable of improving wound healing, diminishing post-operative pain, and additionally minimizing the risk of infection. In our article we present the first clinical case where PRF was used as a wound healing accelerator of gingival lesions in a chemical soft tissue burn after teeth whitening.
The oral microbiome, forming a biofilm that covers the oral structures, contains a high number of... more The oral microbiome, forming a biofilm that covers the oral structures, contains a high number of microorganisms. Biofilm formation starts from the salivary pellicle that allows bacterial adhesion–colonization–proliferation, co-aggregation and biofilm maturation in a complex microbial community. There is constant bidirectional crosstalk between the human host and its oral microbiome. The paper presents the fundamentals regarding the oral microbiome and its relationship to modulator factors, oral and systemic health. The modern studies of oral microorganisms and relationships with the host benefits are based on genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. Pharmaceuticals such as antimicrobials, prebiotics, probiotics, surface active or abrasive agents and plant-derived ingredients may influence the oral microbiome. Many studies found associations between oral dysbiosis and systemic disorders, including autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular, diabetes, cancers and neurodegenerative disorders. We outline the general and individual factors influencing the host-microbial balance and the possibility to use the analysis of the oral microbiome in prevention, diagnosis and treatment in personalized medicine. Future therapies should take in account the restoration of the normal symbiotic relation with the oral microbiome.
The aim of this study was to determine the degree of influence of canine impaction and of the sur... more The aim of this study was to determine the degree of influence of canine impaction and of the surgical-orthodontic correction treatment on the patient's quality of life. The study was performed in a group of 55 patients aged between 18 and 65 years, in various private and state dental offices in Cluj-Napoca, Cluj County. The method used for the collection of data was the completion of a questionnaire by each patient. The questionnaire included questions related to the evolution of an impacted canine from diagnosis to therapeutic results. The results of our study demonstrated that impacted canine causes a general discomfort for 38 patients (69.1%) out of all patients included in our study. Women felt more discomfort associated with impacted canine. Out of all the patients included in our study limitation of social life occurred in a percentage of 69.1%, due to modified facial appearance. The professional life of our patients (40%) was weakly affected by canine impaction. The most frequent treatment applied was surgical-orthodontic correction (69.1%). After completion of the treatment the quality of life of our patients was improved. Our study evidences the fact that the effect of canine impaction is higher in women. The mean age of diagnosis is 22 years, which demonstrates the concern of adolescents about aesthetic appearance and good functionality. Canine impaction is a disorder that can be considered as having a greater effect on the women's quality of life when speaking about the discomfort felt. Our study shows a correlation between the age at which treatment was initiated and the improvement in the quality of life at the completion of treatment.

Results: Isolated cells from the harvested DF tissue from impacted canine/molars, expressed stem cells markers. Differentiation into bone cells was induced in presence or absence of BMP-2 and TGFβ1. The presence of growth factors until 28 days in medium maintained the cells in an earlier stage of differentiation with a lower level of specific bone proteins and a higher expression of alkaline phosphatase (ALP). Influence of titanium implants with different bioactive coatings, hydroxyapatite (TiHA) and with silicatitanate (TiSiO 2), and porous Ti6Al7Nb implants as control (TiCtrl), was studied in terms of cell adhesion and viability. Ti HA implants proved to be more favorable for adhesion and proliferation of DF stem cells in first days of cultivation. The influence of titanium coatings and osteogenic differentiation mediums with or without growth factors were evaluated. Additional BMP-2 in the medium did not allow DF stem cells to develop a more mature phenotype, leaving them in a pre-osteogenic stage. The best sustained mineralization process evaluated by immuno-cytochemical staining, scanning electron microscopy and Ca 2+ quantification was observed for TiHA implants with a higher expression of ALP, collagen and Ca 2+ deposition. Long term culturing (70 days) on titanium surfaces of DF stem cells in standard medium without soluble osteogenic inducers, indicated that HA coating is more favorable, with the acquisition of a more mature osteoblastic phenotype as shown by immunocytochemical staining. These findings demonstrated that even in absence of exogenous osteogenic factors, TiHA implants and in a lesser extent TiCtrl and TiSiO 2 implants can induce and sustain osteogenic differentiation of DF stem cells, by their chemical and topographical properties. Conclusions: Our research demonstrated that DF stem cells have a spontaneous tendency for osteogenic differentiation and can be used for improving bone regeneration on titanium implants surfaces.

Extensive research has been carried out in this area and all proposed procedures present limitations. In this context the area of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) research has gained tremendous awareness in the latest years. PRF is a low-cost regenerative modality that facilitates soft tissue regeneration derived from 100% autologous sources. It forms a fibrin mesh that liberates growth factors in a slow and prolonged manner and also contains supra-physiological concentrations of leukocytes. Reports from the literature have suggested that these leukocyte-rich blood-preparations are capable of improving wound healing, diminishing post-operative pain, and additionally minimizing the risk of infection. In our article we present the first clinical case where PRF was used as a wound healing accelerator of gingival lesions in a chemical soft tissue burn after teeth whitening.

Biofilm formation starts from the salivary pellicle that allows bacterial adhesion–colonization–proliferation, co-aggregation and biofilm maturation in a complex microbial community. There is constant bidirectional crosstalk between the human host and its oral microbiome. The paper presents the fundamentals regarding the oral microbiome and its relationship to modulator factors, oral and systemic health. The modern studies of oral microorganisms and relationships with the host benefits are based on genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. Pharmaceuticals such as antimicrobials, prebiotics, probiotics, surface active or abrasive agents and plant-derived ingredients may influence the oral microbiome. Many studies found associations between oral dysbiosis and systemic disorders, including autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular, diabetes, cancers and neurodegenerative disorders. We outline the general and individual factors influencing the host-microbial balance and the possibility to use the analysis of the oral microbiome in prevention, diagnosis and treatment in personalized medicine. Future therapies should take in account the restoration of the normal symbiotic relation with the oral microbiome.
The aim of this study was to determine the degree of influence of canine impaction and of the sur... more The aim of this study was to determine the degree of influence of canine impaction and of the surgical-orthodontic correction treatment on the patient's quality of life. The study was performed in a group of 55 patients aged between 18 and 65 years, in various private and state dental offices in Cluj-Napoca, Cluj County. The method used for the collection of data was the completion of a questionnaire by each patient. The questionnaire included questions related to the evolution of an impacted canine from diagnosis to therapeutic results. The results of our study demonstrated that impacted canine causes a general discomfort for 38 patients (69.1%) out of all patients included in our study. Women felt more discomfort associated with impacted canine. Out of all the patients included in our study limitation of social life occurred in a percentage of 69.1%, due to modified facial appearance. The professional life of our patients (40%) was weakly affected by canine impaction. The most frequent treatment applied was surgical-orthodontic correction (69.1%). After completion of the treatment the quality of life of our patients was improved. Our study evidences the fact that the effect of canine impaction is higher in women. The mean age of diagnosis is 22 years, which demonstrates the concern of adolescents about aesthetic appearance and good functionality. Canine impaction is a disorder that can be considered as having a greater effect on the women's quality of life when speaking about the discomfort felt. Our study shows a correlation between the age at which treatment was initiated and the improvement in the quality of life at the completion of treatment.
