An experimental field was set up in a household of Soukra, located northwest of Tunis City, to test the performance of vertical greywater treatment. Treated greywater (TGW) was used for the irrigation of two olive tree varieties (Chétoui and Picholine) during five years. The results show high performance of the treatment, as reflected by the good quality of TGW. The chemical and biological parameters of this TGW are under the threshold values of the Tunisian Norms of Treated Wastewaters for agriculture use (NT106.03). The BOD5 average decreased from 160.44 mg O2/L for UGW (Untreated greywater) to 15.32 mg O2/L for TGW. The COD average recorded a high reduction from 290.15 mg O2/L for UGW to 49.58 mg O2/L for TGW. The average removal rate was 90% for BOD5 and 83% for COD, proving the high performance of the treatment. The average increases in height, diameter, and olive production are significantly...

The four-bar mechanism form is used in a large number of existing pieces of machinery and equipment. This type of mechanism, used to drive a screen and generate its oscillating motion, is referred to in this article for its application in separation systems. In the literature, there are numerous approaches for analyzing such a mechanism. In addition to determining this mechanism’s geometry, an examination of the influence of the drive system’s position on the motion of the tie rods, or the support system of an oscillating site, is also conducted. In the investigation, the connecting rod angle was adjusted between −45 degrees and 60 degrees without respect to the horizontal. The following parameters, which correspond to the operation of the oscillating sieve motion, were obtained from the determined mathematical relations: the movement made by the free end of the tie rod; the tie rod’s...

Using laboratory equipment, the cutting process was carried out experimentally. The cutting energy was calculated based on the experimental results. The energy required to perform this process is directly influenced by the textural characteristics of the products used, as per the analysis of the experimental results obtained after the cutting process (density, humidity, products with or without peel). The gathered information was used to develop a general equation that would properly describe the process. Table Curve 3D software was used to create mathematical equations that define the relationship between input parameters, the type of product being cut, cutting speed, and output parameters, i.e., cutting energy. The equations that have the same correlation coefficient were discovered using the working methodology; it was s...

In Romania, practically, the internal resources of oil, coal and natural gas are decreasing rapidly, and Romania is dependent on imports, a dependency that tends to increase dramatically in the coming years. Under the conditions imposed by the EU in terms of increasing the share of renewable energy (ER) in energy consumption at the level of each member country, Romania is in the process of implementing measures to help meet these objectives. The present paper aims to evaluate the potential for the production of electrical energy in a wind farm in the North East area of Romania for the purpose of using this data as a recommendation for future developments of wind energy projects in the region. Following the research, it was found that the North East area of Romania is an area with a high potential for producing electricity from wind sources.

The building chosen for measurements was a teaching laboratory designed for applicative activities and equipped with installations and devices used in laboratory work. To establish the sound pressure level transmitted from outside the building to inside, three types of noise sources were established: a diffuser, a group of people who discuss, and the rainfall intensity on the roof of the enclosure. Measurements were performed both inside and outside the building in different points. The impact on indoor activities due to noise from the outside has been evaluated. The results on the sound pressure level perceived inside the enclosure indicate that the sound pressure level varies depending on the intensity of the outdoor activities.

The variable taken into consideration both in the experiments and in the mathematical modeling were: the positions of the acoustic screen to noise source; the height of the microphone to record the sound pressure level for a variable number of walls. The mathematical model is based on the experimental data obtained in laboratory, using an experimental setup, which comprises a variable number of walls as acoustic screen.

The treatment technological flowsheets carry out, partially or totally, the removal of various pollutants, every treatment step being used for improving one or more qualitative parameter. The treatment scheme is specific to water source type and water use. One of the basic operations for water treatment is the filtration, which is influenced by a series of parameters. The present paper aims at identifying the influence of the granular filtering material on the removal of solids in suspensions that are found in water in concentrations between 5-50 mg/L. In order to accomplish the experimental program, the studies were carried out using three types of filtering materials with various shapes of granular particles, respectively: quartz sand, perlite and anthracite. Using this types of materials were constituted Granular filters with different thicknesses of the filtering layer were used at different water flow rates. The type of granular filtering material with the highest degree of retention of solids was identified and recommended for large scale application.

In order to adequately predict the efficiency of granular filters is necessary to know the distribution of granular particle shape from filter layer. This paper presents a small study - in terms of experimental results, but laborious - in terms of sample preparation, regarding the identification of distribution by shape classes of granular particles from a filter layer. For experimental determinations have been used perlite and anthracite - two granular filter materials. It has been analyzed in terms of particle shape 1,000 particles of perlite and 1,000 particles of anthracite taken randomly from each filter layer. It has been observed that spherical particles have an average distribution for two type filter materials.

Therefore, there were described several prediction methods of the urban traffic noise. These methods are useful in calculating the exposure of the population at noise levels which exceed the permissible limits. Mapping is one of the most common methods used for the assessment of noise. Whether it is industrial, airport, rail or road traffic noise, noise mapping provides accurate data needed later in developing action plans against noise. The road traffic noise assessments are performed periodically, and a representative picture of the noise in the analysed areas is obtained. Then, the action plans can be developed in order to reduce road traffic noise, where it is necessary.
