Hornbills play an important role in maintaining tree gene flow among fragmented populations in fo... more Hornbills play an important role in maintaining tree gene flow among fragmented populations in forests. But hornbill populations in Asia have been declining, mainly due to loss of forest cover and poaching. The presence of hornbills in a forest is highly dependent on environmental factors such as the condition of food trees in their habitat. The purpose of this study was to determine the spatial distribution, dispersion patterns, density, importance value index, and diversity of hornbill food trees at Sukaraja Atas Resort (SA) and Balik Bukit Resort (BB) of Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (BBSNP). We investigated a total of 10 transects (50 survey plots) for both SA and BB by collecting data on all types of hornbill food trees with a minimum diameter of 10 cm at breast height (DBH). We recorded 64 hornbill food tree species with a total of 98 individuals, which have a clumped and uniform dispersion pattern. This study showed that Lauraceae dominated in both resorts with the highest relative density and importance value index. The results of the diversity index show that 9 transects have moderate diversity whereas 1 transect has low diversity; there was no significant difference between SA and BB. It can be concluded that the existing food trees in SA and BB may support the hornbill populations.

Berdasarkan jenis pakannya dibedakan menjadi 2 kelompok, kelelawar pemakan buah dan kelelawar pemakan serangga. Kelelawar mempunyai peranan penting dalam penyerbukan. Pada bulan Februari – Maret 2019 di area perbatasan Taman Nasional Way Kambas dan Desa Labuhan Ratu VII, studi keragaman telah dilakukan dengan menggunakan perangkap jaring kabut. Titik penangkapan dipilih berdasarkan tanda langsung dan tidak langsung. Mist net digunakan untuk menangkap kelelawar pada pukul 18.00 – 22.00 dan di periksa setiap 15 menit. Titik lokasi penangkapan meliputi tanggul perbatasan, kebun karet, dan hutan rawa. Jenis yang ditemukan yaitu Cynopterus minutus (n=8), Cynopterus brachyotis (n=27), Cynopterus sphinx (n=3), Cynopterus titthaecheilus (n=18), Macroglossus sobrinus (n=3), Rousettus amplexicaudatus (n=4), Rousettus sp. (n=5), Pipistrellus javanicus (n=1), Myotis muricola (n=2), dan Megaderma spasma (n=1). Jaring kabut lebih efektif digunakan pada area yang terbuka.

Secara umum diartikan sebagai sekelompok jenis burung air yang secara ekologis menggantungkan hidupnya pada kawasan pantai. Lahan basah merupakan habitat penting yang digunakan oleh burung air sebagai tempat mencari makan, berlindung, bersarang, berbiak, sampai membesarkan anaknya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perilaku menangkap mangsa pada burung air di lahan basah di Desa Margasari, Kecamatan Labuhan Maringgai. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari - Maret 2019 pada tiga lokasi yaitu tambak, sawah, dan hutan mangrove. Pengambilan data dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode Focal animal sampling dilakukan dengan mengamati perilaku menangkap mangsa pada burung air dan mencatat cara menangkap mangsa berdasarkan tekniknya yaitu dengan mengandalkan penglihatan (visual), peraba (tactile), atau kombinasi keduanya. iii Hasil dari penelitian yaitu terdapat beberapa jenis burung air yang mengandalkan penglihatannya seperti burung kuntul kecil (Egretta garzetta) dan pecuk padi hitam (Phalacrocorax sulcirostris). Jenis burung air yang mengandalkan indra perabanya yaitu jenis burung yang memiliki paruh atau ujung paruh yang sensitif seperti ibis roko-roko (Plegadis falcinellus). Terdapat pula jenis burung yang mengandalkan keduanya (visual dan tactile) namun meskipun mengandalkan keduanya terdapat jenis burung air yang lebih cenderung visual daripada tactile begitupun sebaliknya ada beberapa jenis burung air yang lebih cenderung tactile dibanding visual. Jenis burung air yang masuk dalam kelompok lebih visual adalah jenis burung bangau yaitu bangau tong-tong (Leptoptilos javanicus) dan bangau bluwok (Mycteria cinerea) dan jenis yang lebih tactile adalah gajahan penggala (Numenius phaeopus). Various ways of treating cervical cancer continue to be developed, one of which is the discovery of cytotoxic agents. Sargassum sp is one of macroalgae which presumably has a potential as a chemopreventive agents because of its secondary metabolites antiprolifcontains antioxidant, antihyperglycemic, and anticancer activities. This study aims to determine the effect of taurine and ethanol extraction from Sargassum sp. on cytotoxic activity and antiproliferation effect on HeLa cell lines. In this study, phytochemical testing was carried out to determine the content of secondary metabolites in the ethanol extraction of Sargassum. The concentration of taurine and ethanol extract of Sargassum sp. used was 625 ppm, 1250 ppm, 2500 ppm and 5000 ppm, respectively. Evaluation of cell viability using IC50 values was determined by 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-Diphenyl Tetrazolium Bromide (MTT Assay) method. The anti-proliferation test was determined by the doubling time value. Data were analyzed by One Way ANOVA using SPSS at the 95% confidence level, and followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results showed that taurine did not have an IC50 value. The ethanol extract of Sargassum sp., respectively, showed a cytotoxic effect with IC50 values of 1915 ppm. The doubling time value of taurine, respectively, from a concentration of 625-5000 ppm were 161, 154, 148, 124 hours longer than those in control cell, while the ethanol extracts of Sargassum sp. was 106 respectively at a concentration of 625 ppm, whereas at concentrations above 1250 ppm, there were no doubling time value, presumably that the HeLa cells have experienced death. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that taurine and ethanol extracts of Sargassum sp. have the potential to be developed as anticancer agents in HeLa cervical cancer treatment.

Daun pepaya (Carica papaya L.) dan daun kemangi (Ocimum x africanum Lour.) dilaporkan mengandung senyawa yang berperan sebagai antihiperglikemia. Penelitian ini dilakukan karena dari beberapa khasus di Indonesia, penderita hiperglikemia cukup tinggi maka penelitian ini perlu dilakukan untuk memberikan informasi mengenai efektivias dari suatu tanaman herbal dalam menangai hiperglikemia.Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui perbandingan efektivitas pemberian ekstrak etanol daun pepaya dan daun kemangi dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah mencit hiperglikemia. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 25 ekor mencit dibagi dalam 5 kelompok perlakuan dan 5 kali ulangan. Kelompok perlakuan diantaranya, K(N) (tanpa perlakuan), K(-) (diinduksi aloksan), K(+) (diinduksi aloksan dan diberi perlakuan dengan glibenklamid), P1 perlakuan 1 (diinduksi aloksan dan diberi perlakuan dengan ekstrak etanol daun pepaya), P2 perlakuan 2 (diinduksi aloksan dan diberi perlakuan dengan ekstrak etanol daun kemangi). Parameter yang diukur dalam penelitian ini yaitu berat badan dan kadar glukosa darah mencit. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan one way ANOVA dan uji lanjut LSD pada taraf 5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian bahan uji mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa darah mencit dengan persentase penurunan lebih efektif pada P2 sebesar 60,15% sedangkan P1 sebesar 53,32% .

Snake plant or Mother-in-law's tongue (Sansevieria trifasciata Prain) is a plant possessing of ma... more Snake plant or Mother-in-law's tongue (Sansevieria trifasciata Prain) is a plant possessing of many ethnobotanical uses one of which is for medicinal. Previous pharmacological studies showed that this plant has several properties such as healing lesions, anthelmenthic, antimicrobial and cytotoxic. This research was conducted to investigate phytocompounds constituents of ethanol and ethyl acetate of S. trifasciata and their antimalarial activity potential. The phytochemical constituents were analyzed using Gas Cromatography and Mass Spectroscopy (GCMS). The antiplasmodial properties of the extract against malaria parasites were determined by calculating the percentage of parasitaemia suppression which was then used as a variable in probit analysis to determine the IC50 value of the extract. There were 4 and 24 constituents of compounds detected using GC-MS in the ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts of the plant leaves respectively. Antiplasmodial assay of the extracts showed that ethyl acetate solvent gave stronger suppression against Plasmodium falciparum with an IC50 value of 21,29 µg/mL compared to ethanol solvent with an IC50 value of 21,29 µg/mL In conclusion plant leaf extract of Sansevieria trifasciata is potential to be developed as antimalarial ingredient.

Tourists who visit the Garden seek souvenirs to remember the visit besides agricultural products. This community service aims to educate the community around the KRL about making souvenirs using the embedding technique by a workshop. There are 14 participants from the community close to KRL and two persons from Kehati medicine park. The souvenirs are key holders made from insects and flowers around the KRL. The team performed in the lecture and direct practice for the workshop. The majority of participants do not have any knowledge of key holder production made of plants 1and insects as well as the allowable plants and insects for its raws. The evaluation of the workshop indicates that the knowledge and ability of the community to produce souvenirs using the plants and insect embedding has been increased.

Malaria merupakan salah satu penyakit menular yang masih menjadi masalah kesehatan di Indonesia. ... more Malaria merupakan salah satu penyakit menular yang masih menjadi masalah kesehatan di Indonesia. Kabupaten Pesawaran, Lampung merupakan daerah endemis malaria, selama rentang waktu 5 tahun (2013-2017) termasuk daerah dengan high case insidence (HCI) karena memiliki annual parasite incidence (API) lebih dari 5‰. Upaya yang dilakukan menuju daerah bebas malaria yaitu pengendalian malaria secara terpadu. Hal ini memerlukan data entomologi setempat terutama berkaitan dengan spesies, angka kesakitan malaria, perilaku masyarakat terhadap malaria. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah 1) Meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang pengendalian malaria 2) Meningkatkan ketrampilan masyarakat dalam pengenalan alat dan metode Pengendalian malaria. Metode kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat meliputi: 1) Penyuluhan tentang Pengendalian Malaria2) Demonstrasi pengenalan alat dan metode pengendalian malaria. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan (p<0,05) tingkat pengetahuan antara sebelum dan setelah penyuluhan. Kesimpulan: Penyuluhan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan tentang pengendalian malaria pada masyarakat Desa Gebang Kecamatan Teluk Pandan Kabupaten Pesawaran Lampung.

In this paper we studied the effect of tuber extract of nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus l.) on fetal w... more In this paper we studied the effect of tuber extract of nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus l.) on fetal weight and length of white rat (Rattus novergicus) Sprague Dawley. Pregnant female rats (n=24) are grouped into four consisted of six rats each. Group-1 (control) only received distilled water. Group-2, 3 and 4 consecutively received tuber extract of nut grass at the dose of 22.5, 45, and 90 mg/kg body weight. Extract was given orally using gavage needle on day 6th for 13 days until day 18th of pregnancy. On day 18th of pregnancy, female rats were lapartomized under deep anaesthesia. All fetuses were taken to measure their body weight and length. The results showed that both fetal weight and fetal length of the rats were significantly decreased with increasing doses of the extract. In conclusion, tuber extract of nut grass (Cyperus rotundus l.) exhibited inhibitory effects against fetal growth of rats during pregnancy.
