Nesrin Önlü was born in Dikili town of Izmir in Turkey. She completed his undergraduate, graduate and Proficiency in Art education at Dokuz Eylül University Fine Arts Faculty Textile and Fashion Design Department. He received the title of Professor in 2010. Nesrin Önlü worked as the Vice Dean at the same faculty between 2010/2015. Since 2011, D.E.Ü. She works as the Head of the Textile and Fashion Design Department at G.S.F. She has written many articles about her field and participated in national and international congresses. She held solo exhibitions in the fields of Fiber Art, Textile Art and Textile and Fashion Design, and participated in national and international group and group exhibitions. The last solo exhibition he opened is the journey of "Contrast" themed woven fabrics to clothing, which he opened in İzmir Türkan Saylan Art Gallery in 2016.Some of her solo exhibitions are: 'Contrast', The Journey of Woven Fabrics to Clothes, 2016, Türkan Saylan Art Gallery, Izmir

Bu süreç hem işlevselliği hem de yaratıcılığı bünyesinde barındırır. Tasarım aşamasında tasarımlanan ürün öncelikle işlevsel olmalıdır. Bir giysinin vücudumuzu örtmesi gibi belirli bir amaca hizmet etmelidir. İkinci olarak, benzerlerinden farklı bir görsellik taşımalı, estetik görüntüsü alışılmışın dışında olmalıdır.Yaratıcılık, bir tasarımda hem işlevselliğe hem de estetik görünüme biçim verir. Tasarlanan ürüne alışılmışın dışında farklı yada ikinci bir işlevsellikle birlikte ,estetik olarak diğerlerine benzemeyen bir görsellik de verebilir. Tekstil tasarımında yaratıcılık ve işlevsellik tekstil ürününün estetik ve teknik tasarımından üretim sürecine kadar geniş bir alanı içerir. Örneğin, kışlık giysilik bir kumaş tasarlanıyorsa, kumaş öncelikle sıcak tutmalı, daha sonra, renk, esen, doku v.b. özellikleri ile alıcının beğenisine cevap verebilecek estetik değerde olmalıdır.

This study aims to investigate the relief effects on woven fabrics by using heat-sensitive thermo... more This study aims to investigate the relief effects on woven fabrics by using heat-sensitive thermoplastic-shrink yarns and different yarn types together. The purpose of examining the relief effects is to create innovative surfaces and increase aesthetic value in the design of woven fabrics with yarns that gain permanent shape by shrinking with heat treatments. In line with the purpose, first of all, thermoplastic yarns and the studies carried out in this context, the fabrics produced were examined. The information gained was evaluated within the scope of woven fabric design, and relief effect woven fabrics were designed within the scope of a theme. Before the production process of the main fabric designs, preliminary research fabrics were woven for the selection of the appropriate yarn type, weaving structure, and knitting that will create the relief effects in the designs in the most accurate way. With the data obtained from the preliminary research, yarn, woven, and woven fabric structures were determined for fabrics and main designs and production calculations were made. After weaving production, all fabrics were heat-treated to create permanent relief effects after being removed from the loom. The relief effects seen in all fabrics after heat treatment were evaluated in terms of both structural and theme-related appearance by relating the type of yarn used in the production of fabrics, weaving, and woven structure.

Özet Makalenin konusu, yarı-şeffaf kumaşların dokuma tekniği ile elde edilme yöntemleri üzerine b... more Özet Makalenin konusu, yarı-şeffaf kumaşların dokuma tekniği ile elde edilme yöntemleri üzerine bir araştırmadır. Öncelikle ışığın kumaş dokusuyla olan ilişkisi, hangi durumlarda şeffaf dokunun meydana geldiği sorusu değerlendirilmiştir. Bu amaçla dokuma kumaşlarda, doku ve ışık etkileşimlerinin yarı-şeffaflık özellikleri üzerine etkileri irdenlenmektedir. Bununla birlikte dokuma kumaş yapısını meydana getiren malzeme ve iplik, örgü, sıklık gibi tasarım elemanlarının kumaş dokusunda meydana getirdiği yarı-şeffaf etkiler incelenmiştir. Ayrıca dokuma kumaşların üretiminde kullanılan tahar, armür, tarak düzenlemelerinin tasarıma katkıları ve yarı-şeffaf kumaş dokusu oluşumuna etkileri araştırılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda tasarlanan ve üretilen özgün yarı-şeffaf dokuma kumaşlardan ve konuyu destekleyen ilgili görsellerden yararlanılmıştır.

In the region, which has an old weaving tradition, Ödemiş silk weavings and Tire Beledi weavings are discussed in this article, and the current production activities are evaluated with the developments from past to present. Weaving activities continue with the efforts of a limited number of enterprises and weaving masters in the district, where weavings such as Ödemiş linen, handkerchiefs, crepe, idare cloth, pembezar, and loincloth, which are among the local weavings of Ödemiş, are now produced only by order. Tire Beledi weaving, on the other hand, is examined in a more specific context, within the framework of weaver training problems and current production activities, which occurred as a result of the death of the weaving master Saim Bayri. In this study, the condition of traditional fabrics in both traditional and innovative techniques and new usage areas are questioned in the light of the data obtained through field research including visits to manufacturers, local markets and museums and interviews with resource persons. In the conclusion, topics such as that of transferring these fabrics and skills to future generations and ensuring their sustainability, expanding their use in new areas, protecting production techniques, increasing the certificates of weavers and weaving masters are evaluated.

Pre- and post-modified features, technological performances of fabrics, and aesthetic values are of great importance to fabric/yarn business. Self-cleaning, heat-keeping or heat-decreasing fabric for sanitary purposes are one of the new research fields in science, designing and technology. Functional fabrics are manufactured with high-tech fibers, different materials and finishing processes. Aesthetic fabrics are also made for fashions with high-tech fibers and threads, such as transparent and semi-transparent fabrics. Designers explore the limits of transparent and semi-transparent fabric effects using progressive fibers and yarn. The scope of this study is designing and producing transparent garment fabrics with new-tech metallic stainlees steel and retro-reflective fibers. Fourteen samples of woven fabrics were made, and visual effects related to type, number, density and structure were studied.

In the 1970s, rapid developments and changing technology enabled the transition from an industria... more In the 1970s, rapid developments and changing technology enabled the transition from an industrial to an information society to speed up, meanwhile causing cybernetic, biomimetics and space research to accelerate. In this period, some changes appeared in the needs of people, resulting in the production of fibers and yarns that are functionally hygienic, anti bacterial, able to breathe, and resistant to ultraviolet (UV)-rays. While material criteria were becoming important in textile design in light of these changes, new esthetic effects that emerged which depended on the materials used in textile products also appeared. Different visualities were obtained as impressions such as iridescence, dull-brightness, voluminosity, and relief-like impressions in fabrics by high-tech innovations which created fibers, yarns and finishing processes in particular and properties of touch, such as softness, slipperiness, and super fluidity. Comparisons of fabrics were made between artificial and natural materials, and included in aesthetical renovations. In consideration of such data, the subject of this paper within the context of innovation brought about for clothing fabrics by high-tech fibers and yarns is as follows: the design and production of different aesthetical and visual-effect clothing fabrics with brightness and shimmering qualities in voluminous, puffy and relief-like impressions by using stainless steel and retro reflective yarns that are products of high-tech. For this purpose, 12 apparel fabrics have been designed and produced. The above-mentioned visual effects are studied in these fabrics and related differences established based on type and number of yarn, weave, and density, and structure of fabric. The different approach in this study is that voluminous, puffy, shimmering and brightness effects in clothing fabrics are obtained by stainless steel and retro reflective yarns in single and double layer structures, and as patterned fabrics. Therefore, brightness and patterns could be differently conceived based on the type of light by day or night. Another difference is that 100% stainless steel yarn is used and spun.

Öncelikle ışığın kumaş dokusuyla olan ilişkisi, hangi durumlarda şeffaf dokunun meydana geldiği sorusu değerlendirilmiştir. Bu amaçla dokuma kumaşlarda, doku ve ışık etkileşimlerinin yarı-şeffaflık özellikleri üzerine etkileri irdenlenmektedir. Bununla birlikte dokuma kumaş yapısını meydana getiren malzeme ve iplik, örgü, sıklık gibi tasarım elemanlarının kumaş dokusunda meydana getirdiği yarı-şeffaf etkiler incelenmiştir. Ayrıca dokuma kumaşların üretiminde kullanılan tahar, armür, tarak düzenlemelerinin tasarıma katkıları ve yarı-şeffaf kumaş dokusu oluşumuna etkileri araştırılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda tasarlanan ve üretilen özgün yarı-şeffaf dokuma kumaşlardan ve konuyu destekleyen ilgili görsellerden yararlanılmıştır.

In the region, which has an old weaving tradition, Ödemiş silk weavings and Tire Beledi weavings are discussed in this article, and the current production activities are evaluated with the developments from past to present. Weaving activities continue with the efforts of a limited number of enterprises and weaving masters in the district, where weavings such as Ödemiş linen, handkerchiefs, crepe, idare cloth, pembezar, and loincloth, which are among the local weavings of Ödemiş, are now produced only by order. Tire Beledi weaving, on the other hand, is examined in a more specific context, within the framework of weaver training problems and current production activities, which occurred as a result of the death of the weaving master Saim Bayri. In this study, the condition of traditional fabrics in both traditional and innovative techniques and new usage areas are questioned in the light of the data obtained through field research including visits to manufacturers, local markets and museums and interviews with resource persons. In the conclusion, topics such as that of transferring these fabrics and skills to future generations and ensuring their sustainability, expanding their use in new areas, protecting production techniques, increasing the certificates of weavers and weaving masters are evaluated.

Pre- and post-modified features, technological performances of fabrics, and aesthetic values are of great importance to fabric/yarn business. Self-cleaning, heat-keeping or heat-decreasing fabric for sanitary purposes are one of the new research fields in science, designing and technology. Functional fabrics are manufactured with high-tech fibers, different materials and finishing processes. Aesthetic fabrics are also made for fashions with high-tech fibers and threads, such as transparent and semi-transparent fabrics. Designers explore the limits of transparent and semi-transparent fabric effects using progressive fibers and yarn. The scope of this study is designing and producing transparent garment fabrics with new-tech metallic stainlees steel and retro-reflective fibers. Fourteen samples of woven fabrics were made, and visual effects related to type, number, density and structure were studied.

In the 1970s, rapid developments and changing technology enabled the transition from an industria... more In the 1970s, rapid developments and changing technology enabled the transition from an industrial to an information society to speed up, meanwhile causing cybernetic, biomimetics and space research to accelerate. In this period, some changes appeared in the needs of people, resulting in the production of fibers and yarns that are functionally hygienic, anti bacterial, able to breathe, and resistant to ultraviolet (UV)-rays. While material criteria were becoming important in textile design in light of these changes, new esthetic effects that emerged which depended on the materials used in textile products also appeared. Different visualities were obtained as impressions such as iridescence, dull-brightness, voluminosity, and relief-like impressions in fabrics by high-tech innovations which created fibers, yarns and finishing processes in particular and properties of touch, such as softness, slipperiness, and super fluidity. Comparisons of fabrics were made between artificial and natural materials, and included in aesthetical renovations. In consideration of such data, the subject of this paper within the context of innovation brought about for clothing fabrics by high-tech fibers and yarns is as follows: the design and production of different aesthetical and visual-effect clothing fabrics with brightness and shimmering qualities in voluminous, puffy and relief-like impressions by using stainless steel and retro reflective yarns that are products of high-tech. For this purpose, 12 apparel fabrics have been designed and produced. The above-mentioned visual effects are studied in these fabrics and related differences established based on type and number of yarn, weave, and density, and structure of fabric. The different approach in this study is that voluminous, puffy, shimmering and brightness effects in clothing fabrics are obtained by stainless steel and retro reflective yarns in single and double layer structures, and as patterned fabrics. Therefore, brightness and patterns could be differently conceived based on the type of light by day or night. Another difference is that 100% stainless steel yarn is used and spun.
