Nitric oxide (NO) represents one of the major endothelial derived vasoactive mediators. Asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) is an endogenous competitive inhibitor of NO synthase which inhibits NO production at pathophysiologic levels. Plasma ADMA levels are upregulated in atherosclerosis, hypertension, end stage renal disease, chronic heart failure and microangiopathy. Methods: To test the hypothesis that endothelial dysfunction in cancer patients may result in increased ADMA levels, plasma samples were retrospectively analyzed from an open label, multidose, active comparator designed study in which all patients (n = 110) were initially treated with low molecular weight heparin, enoxaparin (E) at 1–1.5 mg/kg sc for 5 days and further subdivided into group E which continued to receive E and warfarin (W) group which was given oral anticoagulants for a period of up to 12 weeks. Baseline blood samples (BL), 5 days post E (IPE) and 4–6 week samples from the E and W were analyzed for ADMA and NO levels by ELISA methods. Results: Both the ADMA and NO levels were markedly elevated in cancer patients. The E treated group showed a marked decrease in the ADMA levels which persisted throughout the treatment period. However, in the W converted group the ADMA levels rebounded to an increased level indicating that E differentially regulated ADMA in these patients. The down regulation pattern of NO was similar for both E and W. Conclusions: These results suggest that patients with cancer and thrombosis exhibit simultaneous upregulation of ADMA and NO. While E and W show a differential regulation of ADMA both result in downregulation of NO. The fact that E regulates ADMA is highly suggestive of its role in iNOS regulation which may be involved in the inflammatory response in cancer patients. Besides the increasing world population increases the need for energy, our need for petroleum-derived fuels, which are mostly obtained from underground sources in transportation vehicles, has increased. Limited, expensive, non-recyclable and insensitive to the environment, these fuels harm humanity for various reasons. Nowadays, besides the efforts to find alternative fuels for these fuels, the ways of using these fuels in the most economical way are being investigated. One branch of this research and development is aerodynamic design. In this study, in vehicle design, aerodynamic rim wing design is discussed. The aerodynamic structure of the wings minimized the swept air resistance. Thus, energy saving and wheel surface quality is improved.
Bu araştırmada, Van il sınırları içerisinde bulunan 2 adet balıkçı barınağı, 9 adet tekne barınağ... more Bu araştırmada, Van il sınırları içerisinde bulunan 2 adet balıkçı barınağı, 9 adet tekne barınağı ve 2 adet doğal barınma yerinin alt ve üst yapı durumunu belirlemek üzere saha ve anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Van il sınırlarında bulunan balıkçı yapılarının genel durumu incelemeye alınmış, çalışma sonucunda mevcut durum ortaya konularak sorunlara çözüm önerileri getirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışma sonuçlarına göre, balıkçı kıyı yapılarının %85'inde yükleme-boşaltma yeri, %62'nde elektrik, %15'inde rıhtım, %77'nde çekek yeri ve deniz feneri, %99'unda yangın söndürme sistemleri ve ilk yardım ünitesi, %70'inde tatlı su, idare binası ve tuvalet olmadığı, %15'inde ise rıhtımın yetersiz olduğu, ayrıca tüm kıyı yapıları ele alındığında balıkçı lokali, balıkçı deposu, balık işleme tesisleri, soğuk hava deposu, ağ kurutma sahası, ağ tamiri alanı, buz ünitesi ve balık satış yerinin mevcut olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Van ilinde bulunan balıkçı kıyı yapılarının genel olarak, alt yapı ve üst yapı bakımından istenilen seviyede hizmet vermediği görülmüştür. Sonuç olarak, Van ilinde bulunan balıkçı kıyı yapılarının tamamının modern balıkçılığa yönelik hizmet veremediğini ortaya konmuş ve belirtilen bu eksikliklerin balıkçılığı yapılabilir ve tercih edilen bir meslek olmaktan çıkardığı belirlenmiştir.

Elde edilen verilere göre, Van ilinde 3 adet küçük ölçekli (˂2 milyon adet yavru alabalık/yıl) ve 7 adet orta ölçekli (2-10 milyon adet yavru alabalık/yıl) kuluçkahane olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Kuluçkahanelerin yönetimsel şekli % 90 aile/birey ve % 10 ortaklık/şirket şeklindedir. Tesislerde toplam yavru alabalık kapasitesi içerisinde, aile/birey oranı % 82.65 ve ortaklık/şirket payı % 17.35'tir. Tesiste çalışanların % 68.57'si işçi, % 11.43'ü aile çalışanı ve % 20'si teknik personel oluşturmaktadır. Çalışanlarından en yüksek yaş oranını % 60 ile 40-49 arasındaki yaş grubu oluşturmaktadır. Tesislerin tamamı Aralık, Ocak ve Şubat aylarında ihtiyacı olan yumurtayı kendileri elde etmektedir. Mevcut kuluçkahanelerin yapısal, biyolojik ve teknik özelliklerindeki farklılıklar bu kuluçkahanelerin kapasitesini kullanma yüzdesini ve üretimdeki verimliliğine direk etki etmektedir.

Son yıllarda tüm dünyada olduğu gibi Türkiye’de de hızla gelişen su ürünleri sektörü Van ili için... more Son yıllarda tüm dünyada olduğu gibi Türkiye’de de hızla gelişen su ürünleri sektörü Van ili içinde önemli bir sektör haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Van İlinde avcılık ve yetiştiricilik yoluyla elde edilen su ürünleri üretim miktarı ve su kaynaklarına aktarılan balık miktarları ele alınarak Türkiye’deki payının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda elde edilen verilere göre, 2013-2021 yılları arasında Van ilinin Türkiye iç sularındaki payı aşağıdaki gibidir: Alabalık işletme sayısı % 2.23, balıkçı tekne sayısı % 3.00, balıklandırma yapılan su kaynakları sayısı % 1.67, avcılık miktarı % 28.43 alabalık yetiştiricilik miktarı % 2.14, su kaynaklarına aktarılan balık miktarı % 2.44 ve toplam su ürünleri üretim miktarı % 7.65 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Bu verilere göre, Van ili içsu avcılığında Türkiye’de birinci sırada yer almaktadır. Van ilinde bulunan su kaynakları güzel bir şekilde değerlendirilmesi durumunda, yetiştiricilik ve avcılık yoluyla elde edilen balık üretim miktarı hedeflerin üzerine çıkabileceği tahmin edilmektedir.

In this paper, we present the MIL-STD-188-110D standard based HF modem design for narrowband voice communication, its real-time implementation and performance analysis. Decision Feedback Equalizer (DFE) was performed using the Recursive Least Square (RLS) method in order to eliminate time-varying channel distortions at the receiver. The interoperability of our HF modem implementation, which are developed using a fixed-point programming suitable for embedded processors, with the RapidM HF modem product is successfully demonstrated. In addition, we report the real-time performance results under ITU-R HF channel models using the RapidM channel simulator product.

Optical VLC network using existing lighting infrastructure in an indoor environment is a cellular network with very small size cells. It is necessary to have effective resource allocation mechanisms for VLC networks to maximize system throughput and fairness among users. We propose a GA based resource allocation scheme to improve total system throughput. Our proposed scheme gives better results compared to Round Robin and Best CQI algorithms in terms of system throughput.

Switchless mesh topologies for modern avionics networks have been gaining popularity in recent ye... more Switchless mesh topologies for modern avionics networks have been gaining popularity in recent years due to its inherent advantages in terms of the size, weight, and power (SWaP). However, it is a challenging task to calculate Network Calculus (NC) delay bounds for switchless mesh topologies due to the cyclic dependency problem, where the paths of interfering traffic flows form cycles. This paper, first, presents a method to automatically calculate the NC worst-case delay bounds for any switchless mesh topology with arbitrary traffic flows, where the cyclic dependency problem is solved using Time Stopping Method (TSM). Furthermore, we propose a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based delay optimization mechanism for switchless ARINC 664 mesh networks, where GA is used for exploring alternative paths to obtain tighter NC worst-case end-to-end delay bounds. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed GA based delay optimization provides consistently and significantly tighter delay bounds.

Even though there are many studies carried out to clarify the kinetic properties of the conventional flotation cells, there is not enough detailed study about the Jameson cell which is used more than 300 plants but no application in Turkey yet. One of the most important parameters affects the kinetic of flotation is a frother. The effects of common frothers on the kinetic of Jameson cell can be crucial due to the possible further application of the cell in European and Turkish flotation industries. The present study was performed out to reveal the kinetic properties of the Jameson cell by using both pure quartz and coal particles. Besides, the effects of three different types of frothers on the kinetic of the Jameson cell were investigated for various particles sizes. According to the results, aliphatic alcohol type frother (MIBC) provided higher recovery for fine particles, while polypropylene glycol type frother (AF65) gave a better ability to float medium and coarse size particles. Additionally, the results show that the Jameson cell was four times faster than the mechanical cell for medium size while the ratio was three times for coarse particles. Lastly AF65 can be used for flotation of coarse particles in the Jameson cell while MIBC can be preferred for fines.

Özellikle ulaşım sektöründe kullanılan yakıtlar çevreyi kirletmede öncü nedenlerdendir. Son zamanlardaki araçların emisyon değerlerini düşürmeye yönelik çalışmaların yanı sıra yakıt tasarrufu sağlamak amacıyla çeşitli çalışmalar mevcuttur. Bu çalışmada özellikle 21. yy’ da önemi artan enerji tasarrufu ar-ge çalışmalarının bir kolu olan aerodinamik araç tasarımında jant tasarımı ele alındı. Bu araştırmada biyomimetik bilimi çalışma metodolojilerinden biri olan ‘biyolojiden tasarıma’ yaklaşımı uygulandı. Bu yaklaşımın çözüm önerisine göre tasarlanan jantın piyasada en çok tercih edilen standart bir jant modeline göre aerodinamik yapısının hava sürtünme direncini azalttığı tespit edilmiştir. Böylelikle enerji tasarrufu sağlanmış ve jantın yüzey kalitesi artırılmıştır.

The network is assumed to support coordinated multipoint transmission (CoMP). The user is mainly served by an AP (i.e., luminary) from which he/she gets the strongest signal. When the user moves towards the cell edge, the received signal from the served AP drops. Based on the handover algorithm decision, a handover to another AP can take place or CoMP is initiated. In the case of CoMP, the user is jointly served by two coordinating APs that transmit the same information. We compare the performance of proposed joint transmission-handover algorithm with conventional hard handover and demonstrate significant performance gains in terms of user data rate.

In this paper, we present a unified resource allocation and mobility management algorithm based o... more In this paper, we present a unified resource allocation and mobility management algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) for indoor visible light communication (VLC) networks. We consider a VLC network where multiple LEDs serve as access points (APs). A centralized controller collects channel state information, quality of service requirements of the users, and the overload status of the APs. Based on the available information, in each time interval, the controller decides which user is served by which AP and assigns subcarriers to the users with the objective of maximizing both the system throughput and user satisfaction. We formulate the resource allocation problem as a constrained nonlinear integer programming problem and solve it using meta-heuristic PSO. Through an extensive simulation study, the superiority of the proposed algorithm in terms of system throughput and user satisfaction over round robin, best channel quality information, and genetic algorithms is demonstrated.

Çalışma sonucunda elde edilen verilere göre, 2013-2021 yılları arasında Van ilinin Türkiye iç sularındaki payı aşağıdaki gibidir: Alabalık işletme sayısı % 2.23, balıkçı tekne sayısı % 3.00, balıklandırma yapılan su kaynakları sayısı % 1.67, avcılık miktarı % 28.43 alabalık yetiştiricilik miktarı % 2.14, su kaynaklarına aktarılan balık miktarı % 2.44 ve toplam su ürünleri üretim miktarı % 7.65 olarak tespit edilmiştir. Bu verilere göre, Van ili içsu avcılığında Türkiye’de birinci sırada yer almaktadır. Van ilinde bulunan su kaynakları güzel bir şekilde değerlendirilmesi durumunda, yetiştiricilik ve avcılık yoluyla elde edilen balık üretim miktarı hedeflerin üzerine çıkabileceği tahmin edilmektedir.

In this paper, we present the MIL-STD-188-110D standard based HF modem design for narrowband voice communication, its real-time implementation and performance analysis. Decision Feedback Equalizer (DFE) was performed using the Recursive Least Square (RLS) method in order to eliminate time-varying channel distortions at the receiver. The interoperability of our HF modem implementation, which are developed using a fixed-point programming suitable for embedded processors, with the RapidM HF modem product is successfully demonstrated. In addition, we report the real-time performance results under ITU-R HF channel models using the RapidM channel simulator product.

Optical VLC network using existing lighting infrastructure in an indoor environment is a cellular network with very small size cells. It is necessary to have effective resource allocation mechanisms for VLC networks to maximize system throughput and fairness among users. We propose a GA based resource allocation scheme to improve total system throughput. Our proposed scheme gives better results compared to Round Robin and Best CQI algorithms in terms of system throughput.

However, it is a challenging task to calculate Network Calculus (NC) delay bounds for switchless mesh topologies due to the cyclic dependency problem, where the paths of interfering traffic flows form cycles. This paper, first, presents a method to automatically calculate the NC worst-case delay bounds for any switchless mesh topology with arbitrary traffic flows, where the cyclic dependency problem is solved using Time Stopping Method (TSM). Furthermore, we propose a Genetic Algorithm (GA) based delay optimization mechanism for switchless ARINC 664 mesh networks, where GA is used for exploring alternative paths to obtain tighter NC worst-case end-to-end delay bounds. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed GA based delay optimization provides consistently and significantly tighter delay bounds.

Even though there are many studies carried out to clarify the kinetic properties of the conventional flotation cells, there is not enough detailed study about the Jameson cell which is used more than 300 plants but no application in Turkey yet. One of the most important parameters affects the kinetic of flotation is a frother. The effects of common frothers on the kinetic of Jameson cell can be crucial due to the possible further application of the cell in European and Turkish flotation industries. The present study was performed out to reveal the kinetic properties of the Jameson cell by using both pure quartz and coal particles. Besides, the effects of three different types of frothers on the kinetic of the Jameson cell were investigated for various particles sizes. According to the results, aliphatic alcohol type frother (MIBC) provided higher recovery for fine particles, while polypropylene glycol type frother (AF65) gave a better ability to float medium and coarse size particles. Additionally, the results show that the Jameson cell was four times faster than the mechanical cell for medium size while the ratio was three times for coarse particles. Lastly AF65 can be used for flotation of coarse particles in the Jameson cell while MIBC can be preferred for fines.

Özellikle ulaşım sektöründe kullanılan yakıtlar çevreyi kirletmede öncü nedenlerdendir. Son zamanlardaki araçların emisyon değerlerini düşürmeye yönelik çalışmaların yanı sıra yakıt tasarrufu sağlamak amacıyla çeşitli çalışmalar mevcuttur. Bu çalışmada özellikle 21. yy’ da önemi artan enerji tasarrufu ar-ge çalışmalarının bir kolu olan aerodinamik araç tasarımında jant tasarımı ele alındı. Bu araştırmada biyomimetik bilimi çalışma metodolojilerinden biri olan ‘biyolojiden tasarıma’ yaklaşımı uygulandı. Bu yaklaşımın çözüm önerisine göre tasarlanan jantın piyasada en çok tercih edilen standart bir jant modeline göre aerodinamik yapısının hava sürtünme direncini azalttığı tespit edilmiştir. Böylelikle enerji tasarrufu sağlanmış ve jantın yüzey kalitesi artırılmıştır.

In this work, we consider a cellular visible light communication (VLC) network where each ceiling... more In this work, we consider a cellular visible light communication (VLC) network where each ceiling luminary serves as an access point (AP). The network is assumed to support coordinated multipoint transmission (CoMP). The user is mainly served by an AP (i.e., luminary) from which he/she gets the strongest signal. When the user moves towards the cell edge, the received signal from the served AP drops. Based on the handover algorithm decision, a handover to another AP can take place or CoMP is initiated. In the case of CoMP, the user is jointly served by two coordinating APs that transmit the same information. We compare the performance of proposed joint transmission-handover algorithm with conventional hard handover and demonstrate significant performance gains in terms of user data rate.

In this paper, we present a unified resource allocation and mobility management algorithm based o... more In this paper, we present a unified resource allocation and mobility management algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) for indoor visible light communication (VLC) networks. We consider a VLC network where multiple LEDs serve as access points (APs). A centralized controller collects channel state information, quality of service requirements of the users, and the overload status of the APs. Based on the available information, in each time interval, the controller decides which user is served by which AP and assigns subcarriers to the users with the objective of maximizing both the system throughput and user satisfaction. We formulate the resource allocation problem as a constrained nonlinear integer programming problem and solve it using meta-heuristic PSO. Through an extensive simulation study, the superiority of the proposed algorithm in terms of system throughput and user satisfaction over round robin, best channel quality information, and genetic algorithms is demonstrated.
