This Smart Power Switch allows the user to control any of the home appliances from anywhere. A standard switch/power outlet in a home can be replaced with a SPS that can be controlled remotely with any smartphone or Personal Computer (PC). Smart Homes can also reduce energy usage by up to 30% for typical residential users. Our research can be considered as an application of Internet of Things (IoT) for Smart Homes. A common definition of Smart Home is an "electronic networking technology to integrate devices, appliances and security so that the entire home can be monitored and controlled centrally as a single machine.

However, because of larger enrollments and frequent offering of the program, at times, it becomes very difficult to complete and manage all of the responsibilities. The advances in technology offer the efficient use of large amount of data for more objective and better decisions. In this paper, we investigate the design for information visualization through an interactive application using Tableau. The use of Data Manipulation and Visualization (DMV) helps APD to keep track of student progress and their enrollment history through user-friendly reporting and data visualization. The paper also presents additional tools for analyzing data and visualizing interaction histories that supports data analysi...

In this paper, the issue is addressed in reference to code of ethics implemented by various professionals, institutes and organizations. The paper presents a higher level model using hierarchical approach. The code developed using this approach could be adopted easily by the entire community of computer users working in different environments. The hierarchical approach allows refinement and customization of code at lower levels to address the needs of diverse sub groups of users. It also provides comfort of flexibility as well as the potential for evolution. The work reported here is in continuation of the research reported in an earlier paper (Wyne, 2009).

The data was collected between 2009 and 2011 for 85 different courses to understand the effect of web-based technology and availability of online contents. It was observed that courses requiring more interaction were less effective in online format. Courses with strong writing component and wider online content availability were very successful. In addition, courses requiring laboratory components and/or hands-on training were less effective.

Most of the game space or virtual world developers understandably focus on their content development, and have little or no interest or experience in the creation of the business required structures to host and run their creations. While there are several companies which do provide excellent business front end (account management, user financial records and transactions, etc.), they do so at a high cost. If a game or virtual world is popular, the hosting requirements for both the servers and the account management increase radically. In this paper we presentMMO (Massive Multiplayer Online) Front-End that is designed to be a one time, low cost application to solve the account management and billing issues while still offer the security and adaptability...

SafeGuard is a web-based application that monitors social media accounts and detects critical keywords such as “hurt”, “die”, etc., and phrases to detect cyberbullying threats and emotional distress in a person’s social media post. Once a monitor discovers a match, an alert is generated for the end user in which they can initiate human intervention. This application is a new strategy for academic institution that allows them to be proactive rather than reactive against cyberbullying.

In this paper, data science methodology is examined to enhance machine learning application in smartphone based automatic human activity recognition (HAR). Eventually, a modified feature engineering and a novel post-learning data engineering are proposed in the machine learning framework as the alternate of data understanding for an effective HAR. The proposed framework is examined on two different HAR data sets demonstrating a possibility of data-driven machine learning for near an optimal classification of activities. The proposed framework exhibited effectiveness and efficiency when compared with the existing methods. The modified feature engineering resulted in 42% fewer features required by support vector machine to yield 97.3% correct recognition of human physical activities. However, the addition of post-learning data engineering further improved the model to perform 99% accurate classification, which is an almost optimal performance.

We intend to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in developing and enhancing web-based learning environment. The objectives for this attempt are to provide a forum for discussion of ideas and techniques developed and used in web based learning. In addition the issue can also be used for educators and developers to discuss requirements for web-based education. Both theoretical papers and papers reporting implementation models, technology used and practical results are included in the issue.
