Moisture, crude oil, protein, ash, total carbohydrate content, and mineral composition of the mushrooms studied, including Fe, Na, K, Zn, Cu, Ca, Cd, and Pb, were determined. Th e energy values of the samples were also calculated. Th e analyses were conducted during the 3 diff erent growing stages of the mushrooms: mycelium, young fruiting bodies, and mature fruiting bodies. Th e highest values for moisture and crude oil contents were found to be in the mycelium, ash, and carbohydrate content of young fruiting bodies. In addition, Na content was found to be the highest in mycelium. Th e highest values for Fe were found in the young fruiting bodies, and K, Zn, Cu, and Ca were at their highest values in mature bodies. None of the samples contained heavy metals Cd or Pb.

As a result of field and laboratory studies 55 taxa belonging to 28 families were identified and are presented as a list. Three of these (Geastrum badium Pers., G. fornicatum (Huds.) Hook and Collybia distorta (Fr.) Quel.) are new records for the Turkish macromycota.

Hydnellum spongiosipes (Peck) Pouz. identified among these specimens has been recorded for the first time in Turkey. This species is described and illustrated (Fig. 1). A complete list of species of Hydnellum reported by scientists since the beginning of macrofungal studies in Turkey are given with the localities.

Minerals, phenolics, and biological activity of wild edible mushroom, Morchella steppicola Zerova... more Minerals, phenolics, and biological activity of wild edible mushroom, Morchella steppicola Zerova Tasteful morels (Morchella sp.) are one of the most popular mushrooms, both economically and scientifically. Due to their beneficial constituents, they are classified as functional foods. This study focuses on the chemical composition and biological activities of a wild edible mushroom, Morchella steppicola Zerova. The metal composition of this species reveals high levels of biogenic elements. However, according to the levels of iron and cobalt, and calculated health risk indices, this mushroom can be recommended for occasional consumption. Also, M. steppicola is found to be rich in gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid, and vanillic acid. Statistical analysis showed that mainly 4-hydroxybenzoic and vanillic acids are responsible for both antioxidant and inhibition of enzymes α-amylase and tyrosinase. Presented work acknowledges the fact that this mushroom has significant potential to be used for the treatment of several human disorders, similarly to other members of this genus.
