I am Maheedasa Balagaru Vasudevacharya. Parents: Balagaru Vasudeva Acharya and Indira Bayi. Born 4-10-1952. Worked as Reader and Principal Govt College of Teacher Education Mangaluru and later became Joint Director, in SSA, Dept of Public Instruction Karnataka. My research thesis CONTRIBUTION OF CHRISTIAN MISSIONARIES TO KANNADA LINGUISTIC SCIENCES is published in Kannada. Have also published papers in grammar, lexicography and education in journals. My wife is Padmaja and son Sameera.I retired in 2012. Now living in Bengaluru with my son and wife.
I have also published a Brief Text on Educational Psychology, a Translation of Rabindranath Tagore's Geetanjali, Nivedane ad Punarukta my collections of poems. Published articles on Linguistic sciences and Education in Journals and popular magazines.

There is in Kannada a tradition of three-lined verses from very ancient times. But Haiku is a new addition that is introduced in Kannada recently. The essay traces the history of three-lined verse forms and explains with examples the new Kannada Haiku.

ವಿಶ್ವಕೋಶವೆಂಬುದೊಂದು ಸಮಗ್ರ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಭಂಡಾರ. ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಶಿಸ್ತುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಹಲವು ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಗಳು; ... more ವಿಶ್ವಕೋಶವೆಂಬುದೊಂದು ಸಮಗ್ರ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಭಂಡಾರ. ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಶಿಸ್ತುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಹಲವು ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಗಳು; ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಪರಿಮಿತ ವಿಸ್ತಾರದ ಪ್ರಬಂಧ; ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಸಂಗ್ರಹವಾಗಿರುವ ಮಾಹಿತಿಗಳ ಸಾಂದ್ರೀಕೃತ,ಸಂಕ್ಷಿಪ್ತ ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆ - ಇವೆಲ್ಲ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಲಭ್ಯ. ವಸ್ತು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ವಿಶ್ವಕೋಶಗಳ ಪರಿ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪಬೇರೆ. ಇಂತಹವುಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಅನೇಕ ಶೀರ್ಷಿಕೆಗಳು, ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಪ್ರಬಂಧಗಳು ಇರುವುವಾದರೂ ಅವೆಲ್ಲ ಒಂದು ವಿಷಯದ ಅಥವ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಶಿಸ್ತಿನ ಪರಿಮಿತಿಗೊಳಪಟ್ಟವು. ಯಾವುದೇ ವಿಶ್ವಕೋಶದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ಶಿರ್ಷಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಅದರ ಅಕಾರಾದಿಕ್ರಮವನ್ನನುಸರಿಸಿ ಗ್ರಂಥದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡು ಹುಡುಕಿ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ಓದಿ ತಿಳಿಯಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಆ ವಿಷಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆ ಸಿಗಬಹುದು, ಅದರ ಅಧ್ಯಯನಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆಯೂ ದೊರಕಬಹುದು.

But this is not rigorously true. The principles elaborated in these texts are also helpful for the common man to lead a peaceful and meaningful life in the society and by such a process society also will be benefited. The essay explains how Ishavasyopanishad teaches such principles. I am grateful to Dr Sanjay, Mr Janardana and Mr Vedaprakash who were kind enough to discuss the contents with me and this helped me in updating it.

Madhwacharya is a philosopher who brought realism to the forefront in the history of Indian Philo... more Madhwacharya is a philosopher who brought realism to the forefront in the history of Indian Philosophy. The former school of Idealism has its positive points and advantages in its own right. But an extreme stretching of these principles were leading the general public to confusion and to think if the life was not that meaningful. At this juncture Madhwacharya came into picture and propounded his theory of Tatwavaada which is realistic in nature. The beauty of his assertions is that he bases his theory on the Vedic thought and interprets the same Vedic mantras (which Sree Shankaracharya used to propound his theory of Advaitha and Mayavada) and uses them in support of his theory in a different way to establish a new system.
Civil Suit is valuable work by Sree Satyadhyana Teertha in this direction. This is a 728 pages long book. The divisions in this book are not called chapters; instead they are called Issues. There are five Issues in the book. The whole book is written in the form of court proceedings.

Twentieth century developments in the field of kannada grammar - Contributions of DN Shankara Bhat, Ranganatha Sharma and Mv Seetharamaiah

Linguistic studies in Kannada began right from ninth century A D. Works of grammar of the Ancient... more Linguistic studies in Kannada began right from ninth century A D. Works of grammar of the Ancient Kannada Period were influenced by and modelled after the Sanskrit grammatical texts. Nineteenth century found an upsurge in the number of grammar books and all of them were written in Modern Kannada and they enunciated rules pertaining to Modern Kannada grammar. These works were influenced by English grammatical texts of the day. In twentieth century new concerns emerged in the field of Kannada grammar. Firstly concern that the Kannada grammar should be constructed by an in-depth analysis of Kannada language and its grammatical units grew. Secondly comparative studies of Ancient Kannada grammatical works were undertaken which were complimentary to write Kannada grammar without resorting to follow Sanskrit or English models. Thirdly dialectal studies including an analysis of the grammar of dialects of Kannada were also commenced but these come under the purview of Linguistics. Lastly a large number of school grammars to facilitate teaching and learning of the language were published. I am attempting to underline these trends in this essay.

Study of proverbs has evoked a lot of interest the world over. There are three lines of study of proverbs namely, cognitive metaphor theory, blend theory and analysis against a cultural background. All the three are not exclusive of each other but are complementary to one another. I have attempted here to present a macro-study of Kannada proverbs illustrating some popular of them. I also compare here some of Kannada proverbs with their English equivalents which yield interesting results.

No doubt there are hundreds of translations of this text. Most of them are prosaic and a rendering of the text in Kannada with lengthy explanations thus losing the poetic quality of the text. Some are committed to some school of philosophy. Here I have tried to make no injustice to the poetic quality of the text. I have also tried to be faithful to the text not aligning to a particular school. However I am influenced by two translations: one the Geetha Vivruthi by Sri Raghavendra Teertha and the other Song of God by Swamy Prabhavananda and Christopher Isherwood. I have relied on the first of these for meanings and have modelled my work after the second. I am also indebted to Swamy Mukundanda, Iskcon for their translations available in the Web. Hope Kannada readers will find this useful.
I will be failing in my duty if I don't express my gratitude to Mr Varuna who helped me in preparing the book in this form including designing the cover page.

ಕನ್ನಡ ವ್ಯಾಕರಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರೂಪಣಾ ತಂತ್ರ ವಿಕಾಸ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಬಂಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಪ್ರಥಮ ವ್ಯಾಕರಣದಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತನೆಯ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದ ವ್ಯಾಕರಣಗಳ ವೆರೆಗೆ ನಿರೂಪಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊಸತನ ಹೇಗೆ ಮೂಡುತ್ತಾ ಬಂತು ಎಂಬುದರ ವಿವರವಿದೆ.
ಕನ್ನಡ ನಿಘಂಟುಗಳ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣದತ್ತ ಎಂಬುದು ವಿಶ್ವ ಸ್ತರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಘಂಟುಗಳ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣ ವಿಧಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಸಮೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸೂಕ್ತ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣವನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಇದು ಒಂದು ಟೇಬಲ್ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಘಂಟುಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಭಂಡಾರದ ನಿಘಂಟು ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನೇತುಹಾಕಿದರೆ ಓದುಗ ತನಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ನಿಘಂಟನ್ನು ಆಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ; ಸಂಶೋಧಕ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಖಾಲಿ ಖಾನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ತಾನು ಯಾವ ತರಹದ ನಿಘಂಟನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಿದರೆ ಉಪಯುಕ್ತವೆಂಬುದನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು.
ರೆಂಗ ಬಳಸಿ ಕವಿತೆ ಕಲಿಸಿ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಬಂಧ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದೆ. ಕವಿತೆ ಕಲಿಸುವ ಒಂದು ಹೊಸ ವಿಧಾನವನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಲವರು ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಿಸಿ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿತ್ವವನ್ನು ದೃಢಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
ಇವಲ್ಲದೆ ಎಟಿಮಲಾಜಿಕಲ್ ನಿಘಂಟುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ರಾಘವೇಂದ್ರಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು ರಚಿಸಿದ ಕಾವ್ಯಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಪ್ರಬಂಧಗಳಿವೆ.

ಇದು ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಘವೆಂದ್ರ ತೀರ್ಥರು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದ ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಮ ಚಾರಿತ್ರ ಮಂಜರಿ ಎಂಬ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕಾವ್ಯದ ಪದ್ಯಾನುವಾದ. ... more ಇದು ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಘವೆಂದ್ರ ತೀರ್ಥರು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದ ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಮ ಚಾರಿತ್ರ ಮಂಜರಿ ಎಂಬ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕಾವ್ಯದ ಪದ್ಯಾನುವಾದ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇವಲ ಹ್ನೊಂದು ಪದ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಡೀ ರಾಮಾಯಣವನ್ನು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದು ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಪೂರ್ಣಪಾಠವಲ್ಲ. ಅತೀ ಸಂಗ್ರಹರೂಪವಾಗಿ ರಾಮಾಯಣದ ಘಟನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಗೆ ತರುವಂತೆ ರಚಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಾವ್ಯವನ್ನು ಇಪ್ಪತ್ತನಾಲ್ಕು ಸಾಂಗತ್ಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
ಈ ಕಾವ್ಯವು ಪಾರಾಯಣಕ್ಕೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾಗಿದ್ದು ನಿತ್ಯವೂ ರಾಮನ ಚಾರಿತ್ರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸ್ಮರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಉಪಯುಕ್ತವಾಗಿದೆ.
