Fats are as essential to our life as proteins and carbohydrates. Vegetable oils have a special importance in terms of their benefits for human health and their high nutritional value, especially with their low saturated fat content, containing free fatty acids necessary for cell structure, and dissolving fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K in our body . Humans need food to survive. A balanced diet, regular exercise, a good and quality sleep pattern bring a healthy life (Harmankaya et al., 2016). Cereals and legumes that are plant sources in addition to roots, leaves, shoots, flowers, fruits, bulbs of various plant parts are the basic foods for humans . ÖZET Bu çalışma, nohut yetiştiriciliğinde büyük bir paya sahip olan Konya'daki farklı lokalit... more ÖZET Bu çalışma, nohut yetiştiriciliğinde büyük bir paya sahip olan Konya'daki farklı lokalitelerden toplanan nohut popülasyonlarının sahip olduğu genetik çeşitliliğin tespit edilmesi için yapılmıştır. Ülkemiz açısından ekonomik değeri olan, bölgeye uygun nohut çeşitleri geliştirmeye yönelik ıslah programlarına katkıda bulunmak hedeflenmiştir. Çalışmada, Konya Bölgesi'nden toplanmış olan 23 nohut popülasyonu ve 2 nohut çeşidi (Gökçe, Er 99) kullanılmış ve basit dizi tekrarlar arası (ISSR) moleküler markör tekniği ile popülasyonların aralarındaki genetik uzaklıklar belirlenmiştir. Effects of application boron on yields, yield component and oil content of sunflower in boron-deficient calcareous soils

The study was conducted to investigate the effects of five boron (B) doses; 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and ... more The study was conducted to investigate the effects of five boron (B) doses; 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 kg B ha-1 in B-deficient calcareous soils on yield and some yield components of four sunflower genotypes. Genotypes have shown variations with respect to their responses to B applications. AS-615 and Coban had the highest seed yield (3.75 and 3.23 t ha-1 , respectively) at 7.5 kg B ha-1 , whereas S-288 and TR-4098 yielded 4.17 and 3.28 t ha-1 , respectively, at 0 kg B ha-1. Therefore, S-288 and TR-4098 can be indicator genotypes for B toxicity. The other genotypes appeared to have high sensitivity to B deficiency. For AS-615 and Coban, application at 7.5 kg B ha-1 level was found to be sufficient for adequate grain yield, whereas further B levels might have detrimental effects on grain yield.

This research was conducted to determine the effects of different boron levels on adaptation of l... more This research was conducted to determine the effects of different boron levels on adaptation of lentil varieties in 2004 growing season under Konya ecological conditions in Agricultural Faculty experiment field of Selcuk University Alaeddin Keykubat Campus. The experiment was designed according to "Split Plots on Randomized Complete Blok" with four replications, the varieties (Sultan, Emre-20, Malazgirt-89, Erzurum-89, Ali Dayı and Meyveci-2001) were put into place to main plots of land and boron doses (B 0 : control, B 1 : 1.25 kg B/da, B 2 : 3.75 kg B/da) were put into place to sub plots, respectively. In this research, as the mean of varieties, the highest grain yield (102.20 kg. da-1) was obtained from applications of B 1. In the same way, as the mean of boron doses, the highest grain yield (120.39 kg. da-1) was obtained from Ezurum-89 variety. As a result, the effects of different boron doses grain yield, number of branches, stem yield, protein yield, biological yield and harvest index were found significant differences but the effects of boron doses on the number of pods, thousand seed weight, plant height, crude protein rate and boron in grain was not found important.

Response of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars to foliar and soil applied boron in boron- deficient calcareous soils

Plant height, pods per plant, seeds per pod, seed yield, protein content, 100-seed weight and B concentration in leaf were studied. Yield was obtained higher B applied genotypes than those of check. Applications both of soil and foliar B increased yield average of 10 and 20%, respectively. Genotypes had the highest seed yield when B was foliar applied indicating that soil factors affected available B. The highest seed yield was obtained from Karacaehir-90 with 4078.2 kg ha -1 . Yunus-90 was found to be B tolerant, while the other genotypes appeared to be highly B sensitive. The result showed that B deficiency in common bean might lead to significant yield losses and foliar application should be advised.

There are various agricultural areas that comprised from plant species which originated in climatically quite different regions. Plants absorb many elements from soil which have biological function and some of them are known as toxic also at low amounts. In case of environmental conditions change, plants will response as changing some of their metabolic activities. So that some of the quality parameters will change. Some of the plants can adopt as well as reasonable values, but some of them will be affected negatively. Although human are not able to or has limits to change ecological situations, they also able to recognize some characteristics of plants and again can develop new plant species and regulate or eliminate some of the harmful effects of environment on plant quality parameters for adaptation to different climatic conditions. If we know the effects of ecological conditions on plants, the definition and improvement of plant quality parameters will be easy. Therefore plants are the basic place of food chain; there are some sorrows about their quality and credibility.

Yaygın Olarak Tarımı Yapılan Nohut (Cicer arietinum L.) Çeşitlerinde Tuzluluğun Fide Gelişimi Üzerine Etkisi

Bu araştırmada, saksıda yetiştirilen toplam 10 farklı nohut çeşidine tuz uygulamasının fide gelişimi üzerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Ülkemizin farklı bölgelerinde bulunan 7 araştırma enstitüsü tarafından ıslah edilen tescilli 10 nohut çeşidinin, fide dönemindeki tuza dayanıklılıkları test edilmiştir. Araştırma, Ankara Tarla Bitkileri Merkez Araştırma Enstitüsü'ne ait cam seralarda 2018 yılında Tesadüf Parselleri Deneme Desenine göre 3 tekerrürlü olarak yürütülmüştür. Her tekerrürde bir tuz ve bir kontrol olmak üzere iki uygulama çalışılmış ve toplam 60 saksıda deneme kurulmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre tuz uygulamaları sonucunda, sürgün uzunluğu, bitkide yaprak sayısı, yeşil aksam yaş ağırlık, yeşil aksam kuru ağırlık, kök yaş ağırlık, kök kuru ağırlık, kök uzunluğu ve kök boğazı çapı değerleri kontrollerine göre daha düşük değerler almıştır. Sürgün uzunluğu bakımından tuz uygulamalarından en az etkilenen Aksu, en çok etkilenen ise Uzunlu 99 çeşidi olmuştur. Bitki yaprak sayısında en az etkilenen Akçin, en çok etkilenen Çakır; yeşil aksam yaş ağırlıkta en az etkilenen Sarı 98, en çok etkilenen Arda; yeşil aksam kuru ağırlıkta en az etkilenen Aksu, en çok etkilenen Çakır; kök yaş ağırlıkta en az etkilenen Sarı 98, en çok etkilenen Çağatay ve Azkan çeşitleri aynı değeri almışlardır. Kök kuru ağırlıkta en az etkilenen Uzunlu 99, en çok etkilenen Akçin; kök uzunluğunda en az etkilenen; Sarı 98, en çok etkilenen Gökçe; kök boğazı çapında en çok etkilenen Arda, en az etkilenen Azkan çeşidi olduğu görülmüştür.

This research was conducted to determine responses of chickpeas to drought in different periods (... more This research was conducted to determine responses of chickpeas to drought in different periods (early period, late period, no-irrigation, two times irrigation as control). The trial was made in "Randomized Complete Block Design" with three replications on 2010 and 2011 years in Konya-Turkey. Genotypes were consisted from 7 lines of ICARDA, 2 certified lines and 1 local population. The results showed that; as means of years and genotypes, early period stress showed highest (207.47 kg da-1) seed yield and it was followed by control (202.33 kg da-1), late period (144.64 kg da-1) and normal (106.93 kg da-1) stress applications. The genotypes were affected too much by drought and, the lowest seed was taken from non-irrigated plots. As the means of years and stress applications, the highest (196.01 kg da-1) yield was taken from genotype 22255. The reason of yield variation could be derived from different responses of genotypes to drought.

Four chickpea genotypes ( CDC Frontier, CDC Luna, Sawyer and Sierra) were grown in pots wit h 3 different irrigation levels (a dose of 17.5 ml, 35 ml and 70 ml for each pot per day) after three weeks from sowing. This research was conducted to determine the effects of water shortage on dry bean genotypes. Field trial was conducted according to “Randomized Complete Blocks Design” with three replications in Selcuk University, Agricultural Faculty, Campus-Konya trial fields during the year of 2009. Sowings were made on 15th of May and harvest was made on September. After sowing, the plots were irrigated by sprinkler for only two hours to provide the emergence. A total of 40 common dry bean genotypes were grown in field conditions with only 2 drip irrigations during the flowering (50th day after sowing) and pod filling (58th day after sowing) periods for 6 hours (from 0am to 6am) per irrigation which was provided enough water to effective root depth. Genetic Diversity in the Dwarf Dry Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris l.)Populations Grown in Konya

This research was conducted to determine the genetic differences among the dwarf dry bean (Phaseo... more This research was conducted to determine the genetic differences among the dwarf dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) populations collected from the Konya province of Turkey. Seedlings were grown in a controlled greenhouse of Selcuk University, Faculty of Agriculture during the year 2007. A total of 38 populations were gathered from the city center, the towns and the villages. Genetic differences were determined via ISSR method. By using 10 primers a total of 85 DNA bands were obtained of which 71 were found to be polymorphic. Our results have demonstrated that the populations used were clustered into 3 major groups. Similarity degrees were in between 0.48 – 097. Knowledge about the genetic characteristics of a population is fundamental in breeding programs and it involves the local farmers. This strategy allows to improve and, at the same time, safeguard the genetic reliability of landrace genetic resources.

Field trials were set up according to “Split - Split Plots Experimental Design” with three replications for two years (2010 and 2012). Sowings were made on 15 th and 30 th of June for both years. Determination of correlations and cluster analysis were made on some of the quality characteristics (pod length, pod width, handle diameter, awn value, straightness of beak, breaking easiness of pod) that are used for green bean. According to the results, the positive correlation value (0,5771) between pod length and pod width was found statistically important (p<0,05). Ülkemiz açısından ekonomik değeri olan, bölgeye uygun nohut çeşitleri geliştirmeye yönelik ıslah programlarına katkıda bulunmak hedeflenmiştir. Effects of application boron on yields, yield component and oil content of sunflower in boron-deficient calcareous soils

The study was conducted to investigate the effects of five boron (B) doses; 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and ... more The study was conducted to investigate the effects of five boron (B) doses; 0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 kg B ha-1 in B-deficient calcareous soils on yield and some yield components of four sunflower genotypes. Genotypes have shown variations with respect to their responses to B applications. AS-615 and Coban had the highest seed yield (3.75 and 3.23 t ha-1 , respectively) at 7.5 kg B ha-1 , whereas S-288 and TR-4098 yielded 4.17 and 3.28 t ha-1 , respectively, at 0 kg B ha-1. Therefore, S-288 and TR-4098 can be indicator genotypes for B toxicity. The other genotypes appeared to have high sensitivity to B deficiency. For AS-615 and Coban, application at 7.5 kg B ha-1 level was found to be sufficient for adequate grain yield, whereas further B levels might have detrimental effects on grain yield.

This research was conducted to determine the effects of different boron levels on adaptation of l... more This research was conducted to determine the effects of different boron levels on adaptation of lentil varieties in 2004 growing season under Konya ecological conditions in Agricultural Faculty experiment field of Selcuk University Alaeddin Keykubat Campus. The experiment was designed according to "Split Plots on Randomized Complete Blok" with four replications, the varieties (Sultan, Emre-20, Malazgirt-89, Erzurum-89, Ali Dayı and Meyveci-2001) were put into place to main plots of land and boron doses (B 0 : control, B 1 : 1.25 kg B/da, B 2 : 3.75 kg B/da) were put into place to sub plots, respectively. In this research, as the mean of varieties, the highest grain yield (102.20 kg. da-1) was obtained from applications of B 1. In the same way, as the mean of boron doses, the highest grain yield (120.39 kg. da-1) was obtained from Ezurum-89 variety. As a result, the effects of different boron doses grain yield, number of branches, stem yield, protein yield, biological yield and harvest index were found significant differences but the effects of boron doses on the number of pods, thousand seed weight, plant height, crude protein rate and boron in grain was not found important.

Response of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars to foliar and soil applied boron in boron- deficient calcareous soils

Plant height, pods per plant, seeds per pod, seed yield, protein content, 100-seed weight and B concentration in leaf were studied. Yield was obtained higher B applied genotypes than those of check. Applications both of soil and foliar B increased yield average of 10 and 20%, respectively. Genotypes had the highest seed yield when B was foliar applied indicating that soil factors affected available B. The highest seed yield was obtained from Karacaehir-90 with 4078.2 kg ha -1 . Yunus-90 was found to be B tolerant, while the other genotypes appeared to be highly B sensitive. The result showed that B deficiency in common bean might lead to significant yield losses and foliar application should be advised.

There are various agricultural areas that comprised from plant species which originated in climatically quite different regions. Plants absorb many elements from soil which have biological function and some of them are known as toxic also at low amounts. In case of environmental conditions change, plants will response as changing some of their metabolic activities. So that some of the quality parameters will change. Some of the plants can adopt as well as reasonable values, but some of them will be affected negatively. Although human are not able to or has limits to change ecological situations, they also able to recognize some characteristics of plants and again can develop new plant species and regulate or eliminate some of the harmful effects of environment on plant quality parameters for adaptation to different climatic conditions. If we know the effects of ecological conditions on plants, the definition and improvement of plant quality parameters will be easy. Therefore plants are the basic place of food chain; there are some sorrows about their quality and credibility.

Bu araştırmada, saksıda yetiştirilen toplam 10 farklı nohut çeşidine tuz uygulamasının fide gelişimi üzerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Ülkemizin farklı bölgelerinde bulunan 7 araştırma enstitüsü tarafından ıslah edilen tescilli 10 nohut çeşidinin, fide dönemindeki tuza dayanıklılıkları test edilmiştir. Araştırma, Ankara Tarla Bitkileri Merkez Araştırma Enstitüsü'ne ait cam seralarda 2018 yılında Tesadüf Parselleri Deneme Desenine göre 3 tekerrürlü olarak yürütülmüştür. Her tekerrürde bir tuz ve bir kontrol olmak üzere iki uygulama çalışılmış ve toplam 60 saksıda deneme kurulmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre tuz uygulamaları sonucunda, sürgün uzunluğu, bitkide yaprak sayısı, yeşil aksam yaş ağırlık, yeşil aksam kuru ağırlık, kök yaş ağırlık, kök kuru ağırlık, kök uzunluğu ve kök boğazı çapı değerleri kontrollerine göre daha düşük değerler almıştır. Sürgün uzunluğu bakımından tuz uygulamalarından en az etkilenen Aksu, en çok etkilenen ise Uzunlu 99 çeşidi olmuştur. Bitki yaprak sayısında en az etkilenen Akçin, en çok etkilenen Çakır; yeşil aksam yaş ağırlıkta en az etkilenen Sarı 98, en çok etkilenen Arda; yeşil aksam kuru ağırlıkta en az etkilenen Aksu, en çok etkilenen Çakır; kök yaş ağırlıkta en az etkilenen Sarı 98, en çok etkilenen Çağatay ve Azkan çeşitleri aynı değeri almışlardır. Kök kuru ağırlıkta en az etkilenen Uzunlu 99, en çok etkilenen Akçin; kök uzunluğunda en az etkilenen; Sarı 98, en çok etkilenen Gökçe; kök boğazı çapında en çok etkilenen Arda, en az etkilenen Azkan çeşidi olduğu görülmüştür.

This research was conducted to determine responses of chickpeas to drought in different periods (... more This research was conducted to determine responses of chickpeas to drought in different periods (early period, late period, no-irrigation, two times irrigation as control). The trial was made in "Randomized Complete Block Design" with three replications on 2010 and 2011 years in Konya-Turkey. Genotypes were consisted from 7 lines of ICARDA, 2 certified lines and 1 local population. The results showed that; as means of years and genotypes, early period stress showed highest (207.47 kg da-1) seed yield and it was followed by control (202.33 kg da-1), late period (144.64 kg da-1) and normal (106.93 kg da-1) stress applications. The genotypes were affected too much by drought and, the lowest seed was taken from non-irrigated plots. As the means of years and stress applications, the highest (196.01 kg da-1) yield was taken from genotype 22255. The reason of yield variation could be derived from different responses of genotypes to drought.

Field trial was conducted according to “Randomized Complete Blocks Design” with three replications in Selcuk University, Agricultural Faculty, Campus-Konya trial fields during the year of 2009. Sowings were made on 15th of May and harvest was made on September. After sowing, the plots were irrigated by sprinkler for only two hours to provide the emergence. A total of 40 common dry bean genotypes were grown in field conditions with only 2 drip irrigations during the flowering (50th day after sowing) and pod filling (58th day after sowing) periods for 6 hours (from 0am to 6am) per irrigation which was provided enough water to effective root depth. Genetic Diversity in the Dwarf Dry Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris l.)Populations Grown in Konya

This research was conducted to determine the genetic differences among the dwarf dry bean (Phaseo... more This research was conducted to determine the genetic differences among the dwarf dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) populations collected from the Konya province of Turkey. Seedlings were grown in a controlled greenhouse of Selcuk University, Faculty of Agriculture during the year 2007. A total of 38 populations were gathered from the city center, the towns and the villages. Genetic differences were determined via ISSR method. By using 10 primers a total of 85 DNA bands were obtained of which 71 were found to be polymorphic. Our results have demonstrated that the populations used were clustered into 3 major groups. Similarity degrees were in between 0.48 – 097. Knowledge about the genetic characteristics of a population is fundamental in breeding programs and it involves the local farmers. This strategy allows to improve and, at the same time, safeguard the genetic reliability of landrace genetic resources.

Correlations Between Quality Characteristics of Dry Bean Genotypes which Produced for Green Bean as a Second Crop

Field trials were set up according to “Split - Split Plots Experimental Design” with three replications for two years (2010 and 2012). Sowings were made on 15 th and 30 th of June for both years. Determination of correlations and cluster analysis were made on some of the quality characteristics (pod length, pod width, handle diameter, awn value, straightness of beak, breaking easiness of pod) that are used for green bean. According to the results, the positive correlation value (0,5771) between pod length and pod width was found statistically important (p<0,05). The other correlation values were found as statistically insignificant.
