In this study, we retrospectively reviewed the data from 74 consecutive patients with pulmonary LELC and investigated the prognostic value of pretreatment monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR). The cut-off value determined by ROC curve for MLR was 0.262. According to this cut-off value, 36 (48.6%) patients had lower MLR value (<0.262) at diagnosis. There was no significant correlation between MLR level and gender, age, smoking history, stage, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level. The 2-year, 5-year, and 10-year OS rate were 86%, 72%, and 61%, respectively; the 2-year, 5-year, and 10-year PFS rate were 71%, 63%, and 49%, respectively. In univariate analysis, advanced stage, elevated LDH level, and higher MLR value (> = 0.262) were significantly associated with poor OS and PFS. In a multivariate Cox regression model that included stage, LDH and MLR level, all of these three fact...

Here, we report that chloroplastic/mitochondrial GR2 is an important regulator of leaf senescence. Seed development of the homozygous gr2 knockout mutant was blocked at the globular stage. Therefore, to investigate the function of GR2 in leaf senescence, we generated transgenic Arabidopsis plants with decreased GR2 using RNAi. The GR2 RNAi plants displayed early onset of age-dependent and dark- and H2 O2 -induced leaf senescence, which was accompanied by the induction of the senescence-related marker genes SAG12 and SAG13. Furthermore, transcriptome analysis revealed that genes related to leaf senescence, oxidative stress, and phytohormone pathways were up-regulated directly before senescence in RNAi plants. In addition, H2 O2 accumulated to higher levels in RNAi plants than in wild-type plants an...

However, no systematic study on the synthesis and characterization of polycrystalline Sb2(S1-xSex)3 thin films has been reported. Here, using a hydrazine based solution process, single-phase Sb2(S1-xSex)3 films were successfully obtained. Through Raman spectroscopy, we have investigated the dissolution mechanism of Sb in hydrazine: 1) the reaction between Sb and S/Se yields [Sb4S7](2-)/[Sb4Se7](2-) ions within their respective solutions; 2) in the Sb-S-Se precursor solutions, Sb, S, and Se were mixed on a molecular level, facilitating the formation of highly uniform polycrystalline Sb2(S1-xSex)3 thin films at a relatively low temperature. UV-vis-NIR transmission spectroscopy revealed that the band gap of Sb2(S1-xSex)3 alloy films had a quadratical relationship with the Se concentration x and it followed the equation , where the bowing parameter was 0.11...

NTs is primarily located in the suburothelium and the interstitium of smooth muscle bundles. The NTSR1 and NTSR2 receptor subtypes are found to co-localize with smooth muscle cells (SMCs). NTs not only can directly act on bladder SMCs to induce intracellular calcium mobilization by activating the phospholipase C/inositol triphosphate (PLC/IP3) pathway, promoting extracellular calcium influx through a non-selective cation channels, but may be also involved in the modulation of the cholinergic system. Nowadays, the selective antimuscarinic drugs (solifenacin) and the selective beta 3-adrenergic agonist (mirabegron) are used as the first-line pharmacotherapy for overactive bladder (OAB), but without satisfactory treatment benefits in some patients. This study provided evidence suggesting that bladder NTs may play an important role in the regulation of micturition. Further research is needed to investigate the effects of NTs on bladder contractility and the underlying mechanism, which might reveal that the administration of NTSR antagonists can potentially relieve the symptoms of OAB by coordination with antimuscarinic pharmacotherapy.

Cardiac dysfunction after stroke is a challenge for clinicians. This is a retrospective study of patients in the neurology departments of 23 hospitals in Shanghai and Wuhan, China. The medical records of 351 patients were compared. Chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U tests, and stratification compared subgroups. Logistic regressions analyzed factors associated with modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score. ECG abnormalities occurred in 70.1% of patients at an early stage (most were within 48 hours of disease onset) at least once, whereas 45.9% of the patients had ECG abnormalities within 48 hours of onset and at 7 days after onset. The incidence of poor prognosis (mRS &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;1) was significantly higher in the patients with ECG abnormalities for both time points than that in those with normal ECGs (56.3% versus 32%, odds ratio = 2.166). Most patients demonstrated 1 to 2 ECG abnormalities, and very few patients had 3 or more. Increasing number of ECG abnormalities was mirrored by poorer prognosis. ECG abnormalities occurred within 48 hours and at the seventh day after onset of acute ischemic stroke; the abnormalities that appeared within 48 hours and were still found on the seventh day after onset of the disease were independent predictors of poor patient prognosis. The incidence of abnormal ECGs was high in the patients with acute ischemic stroke, and the abnormal ECGs could appear at any stage of the disease.

Expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) association analysis using RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data can improve upon the detection of cis-acting regulatory variation by leveraging allele-specific expression (ASE) patterns in association analysis. Here, we present a comprehensive evaluation of cis-acting eQTLs by analyzing RNA-seq gene-expression data and genome-wide high-density genotypes from 471 samples of normal primary prostate tissue. Using statistical models that integrate ASE information, we identified extensive cis-eQTLs across the prostate transcriptome and found that approximately 70% of expressed genes corresponded to a significant eQTL at a gene-level false-discovery rate of 0.05. Overall, cis-eQTLs were heavily concentrated near the transcription start and stop sites of affected genes, and effects were negatively correlated with distance. We identified multiple instances of cis-acting co-regulation by using phased genotype data and discovered 233 SNPs as the most strongly associated eQTLs for more than one gene. We also noted significant enrichment (25/50, p = 2E-5) of previously reported prostate cancer risk SNPs in prostate eQTLs. Our results illustrate the benefit of assessing ASE data in cis-eQTL analyses by showing better reproducibility of prior eQTL findings than of eQTL mapping based on total expression alone. Altogether, our analysis provides extensive functional context of thousands of SNPs in prostate tissue, and these results will be of critical value in guiding studies examining disease of the human prostate.

Serum NSE values were measured using electrochemiluminescence assay in 53 patients. About 54.7% of the DLBCL patients had positive expression of serum NSE (>15.20 ng/ml), which closely correlated with performance status, serum LDH level, B symptoms, IPI scores, and Ann-Arbor stages (P < 0.05). The mean serum NSE value in patients with non-GCB subtype of DLBCL was significantly higher than that of GCB subtype of DLBCL (P = 0.001), and among patients in non-GCB subtype group, there was significant difference in the 5-year OS rate between NSE-positive group and negative group (28.3% vs. 81.6%, P < 0.001). Furthermore, serum NSE level was found to be an independent prognostic factor in patients with non-GCB subtype. Serum NSE may be a novel marker of d...

The results show that this igneous rock, called a "main key stratum", will not subside nor break for a long time, causing lower fractures and bed separations not to close. The presence of igneous rock plays an important role in rock bursts, mine floods, gas outburst and surface subsidence in coal mines. By analyzing the rules in controlling the effect of this igneous rock, we provide useful references for safety and high efficiency mining in coal mines under special geological conditions.

Longitudinal data (1991-2007) from National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development involving mothers that smoked and or exposed to SHS during the year before birth were analysed. Adolescent obesity in ages 12.0-15.9 years was defined as a BMI ≥ 95th percentile. Generalised estimating equations (GEE) were used for the analyses. Obesity was more prevalent among adolescents whose mothers smoked or had SHS exposure than those that did not smoke or exposed to SHS. After adjusting for maternal and child factors, GEE models showed that odds of adolescent obesity increased with prenatal maternal smoking (OR = 1.57, 95% CI = 1.03-2.39) and SHS exposure (OR = 1.53, 95% CI = 1.04-2.27). The odds for obesity increased more than two times among adolescents exposed to both maternal smoking and SHS (OR = 2.10,...

Accumulating evidences suggest that certain molecular abnormalities or genetic mutations are associated with its progression and prognosis. Human transcriptional coactivator 4 (PC4), originally identified as a transcriptional coactivator then as a DNA replication and repair factor has been shown to be involved in chromatin organization. Recently, it is reported to function both as tumor suppressor and promoter depending on the cellular settings. In the present study, we for the first time demonstrated that the expression of PC4 in astrocytoma was upregulated as assessed by western blot and immunohistochemical staining. Moreover, elevated PC4 expression was strongly correlated with the progression of astrocytoma. Furthermore, high PC4 expression was also associated with poor overall survival. Finally, in vitro study demonstrated that siRNA mediated PC4 downregulation significantly inhibited t...

To study the multicolor imaging performance of a logarithmic wavefront coding system, the phase and chromatic aberration variation with wavelength are analyzed, and characteristics such as shape, distribution and width of two wavelengths' PSF are compared. The research results show that if the chromatic aberration is excellently corrected then the technology can be used for multicolor even broadband spectrum DOE imaging system. Otherwise, the encode image can not be effectively decoded.

Ocular refractive errors and lens refractive power at corneal plane were calculated and their correlations were also evaluated before and after LASIK. At 1 week after LASIK, LT and crystalline lens refractive power at corneal plane (Dlens) which were associated with the IOL-Master and Pentacam increased significantly (P≤0.005), ACD decreased significantly (P≤0.001), but no significant increase was observed in the Dlens which was associated w...

The goal of our study was to report the surgical results and complications for these patients treated at our institution as well as trying to find the factors resulted in ptosis after the operation. Forty-nine consecutive SC meningiomas cases that underwent surgery between April 1997 and December 2012 were reviewed. The clinical courses of all patients were recorded. Prognosis factors of post-operative ptosis were evaluated. There were 38 female and 11 male patients. Mean duration of symptoms was 20.9 months. Visual deficit (34.7%) and headache (22.4%) were the most common presenting symptoms. Mean maximum diameter of the tumors on MRI was 5.1cm. Subtotal resection was achieved in 51.0% of patients. Follow-up data were available for 39 patients, with a mean follow-up of 73.7 months, and four patients died during follow-up period. Of the 35 living patients, 22 (6...

A retrospective study was conducted on six cases patients withof an intradural chordoma in the retroclival region who underwent surgery and were confirmed by pathology and imaging. Expression of brachyury, galectin-3, and Ki-67 in paraffin-embedded sections of the specimens was detected by streptavidin-peroxidase immunohistochemistry. Lesions were located in the subdural prepontine cistern. Computed tomography scan showed that the bone of the skull base was not destroyed, and findings on magnetic resonance imaging varied, resulting in a misdiagnosis of 50% of the cases in the preoperative imaging. All six cases were classified by their pathology into the classical subtype. They presented a strong positive staining for brachyury and galectin-3, and the Ki-67 labeling index was between 2.5% and 8.2%. Three cases presented no signs of...
