The purpose of this study is aimed at analyzing the impact of psychological empowerment (PE) on IPD through achievement orientation (AO) and perceived inclusive leadership (PIL) among academics of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire-based survey was conducted among the academics in Nigeria, and 350 responses were received. A multiple regression analysis was conducted using Smart-PLS version 3. Findings Findings are: (a) PE significantly impacts AO and IPD; (b) AO mediates the relationship between PE and IPD; and (c) PIL moderates the relationship between PE and AO. Practical implications It is recommended that practitioners and administrators in tertiary institutions pay attention to academics’ AO while integrating employee empowerment intervention for optimum results. Originality/value The findings emphasize AO in explaining the mechanism by which the relationship between PE and IPD holds sway. PIL explains the boundary conditions under which PE can effectively influence IPD.

ES is associated with low creativity and innovativeness, unethical organizational practices, avoidable errors and safety-related issues. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the mediating role of psychological insecurity (PI) in the relationship between leaders’ bullying behaviour (LBB) on defensive (DES) and acquiescent employee silence (AES). Design/methodology/approach Data were collected among police personnel working in Plateau state Nigeria. In all, a total of 350 responses were found useable for further analysis, of the 398 copies of the questionnaire administered. A structural equation modelling technique was used via SMART-PLS version 3.3.3 to test the hypothesized relationship. Findings The findings of this study revealed that leaders’ bullying positively and significantly influences both AES and DES, and PI was found to mediate the relationship between LBB and AES and DES. Originality/value LBB among the police has been under-researched, even when there is clear evidence of its existence. PI explains the mechanism through which LBB influences officers' silence.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the intervening role of career satisfaction and affective commitment in the relationship between sanctification and turnover intentions among teachers in a Boko Haram infested region of Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach-The authors adopted a cross-sectional survey design using 375 responses out of the 600 administered questionnaires to three states within the context of this study. The usable data were analyzed using SmartPLS version 3.2.7 to evaluate the hypothesized relationships. Findings-The results reveal: negative but insignificant relationship between sanctification and turnover intention; career satisfaction and affective commitment mediate the relationship between sanctification of work and employee intention to leave. Originality/value-The predictive role of sanctification was proven to be insignificant under unfriendly work environment, which is contrary to the literature on the role sanctification. The mediating role of career satisfaction and affective commitment between sanctification and turnover intention is relatively new. The two constructs constitute the mechanism through which the relationships are sustained; hence the hypotheses on the indirect relationships are established.

The study developed a model to demonstrate the underlying mechanisms through which unethical organizational culture (UOC) influences UPB through the mediating roles of idealism and relativism.Design/methodology/approachUsing a cross-sectional approach, data were collected through questionnaires that were distributed to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the Plateau state in Nigeria. A total of 269 responses were obtained and analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique via Smart-PLS software.FindingsThe results revealed that the relationship between UOC and UPB was significant. The indirect predictive role of UOC on UPB was established via relativism but not through idealism. The results indicate that the preponderance of UPB among SMEs is a product of UOC which breeds a relativist ideology that ultimately promotes UPB. Finally, implications and suggestions for further research are discussed.Originality/valueThis study contributes to UPB in two unique ways. First, the authors bring to the fore the critical role of UOC in the debate on UPB which has been under-explored. Second, the study also established the mediating role of relativism in the relationship between UOC and UPB.

To achieve these objectives, 350 questionnaire were administered to frontline employees and their responses analyzed using Smart-PLS version 3.0. Finding reveals that authentic leadership negatively associates with emotional exhaustion, and positively with psychological ownership. The relationship between authentic leadership and job satisfaction was positive based on one tailed test but was found to be statistically insignificant. Employee psychological ownership was found a mediate the relationship between authentic leadership job satisfaction as well as emotional exhaustion indicating indirect relationship with job satisfaction and emotional exhaustion. We recommended that practionners in hospitality industry and other service related organisation should pay attention to the kind of leadership style in their organisatiion by grooming authentic leaders who should provide needed mitigating effect on their emotional exhaustion. Secondly, infusing sense of belonging increases employee psychological ownership, hence managers were encouraged to see leadership from the followers perspective to ensure job satisfaction and reduced emotional exhaustion.

Therefore, there is an increasing need to address the poor performance of SMEs in Nigeria due to the high rate of failures and their inability to compete favorably with large firms, and the adoption of entrepreneurial marketing practices provides a win-win situation for the enterprise and its stakeholders. The need to investigate how entrepreneurial marketing strategies would improve organization competitiveness in the SME sub-sector is therefore necessary. In order to examine the relationship between entrepreneurial marketing strategies (change driving, bootstrapping, and calculated risk) and competitive advantage in Nigeria's SMEs, this study employed a quantitative approach, owners and managers of SMEs in Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, received questionnaires. 286 owners and managers in all took part in the study. With the aid of SPSS Version 26, multiple regression analysis was used to examine the acquired data. Based on the analysis, the study found that risk taking had a weak link with competitive advantage, change driving and bootstrapping had a strong relationship.

This study is motivated to identify the factors that enhance innovative performance among SMEs by exploring the path of Strategic orientation (SO) and coordination flexibility (CF). A total of 400 copies of the structured questionnaire was administered to top managers and Supervisors in Nigeria. Out of the 400 copies administered to top managers, 200 were completed, while 217 were completed and returned by the supervisors out of 400 administered to them as well. Partial Least Square (PLS) software 3.3.3, a variance-based Structural Equation Modelling was used to analyse the data. The results indicate that SO, CF in employee skill but not HR practice was found to relate significantly with IP as well as mediate the relationship with SO. Thus, we concluded that IP can be enhanced through SO and explained through CF in employee skills.

These changes and competitive spirit among participants in the private sector have not only created opportunity for companies to thrive, but have also driven the economy to lane one among developing economies of the World. There is no gainsaying that sustainable competitive advantage is achieved through organizations’ resources, that is why Hoffman (2001) strongly asserts that, competitive advantage is achieved through effective combination of both tangible and intangible resources, assets, including firm management skills, organisational process, information and knowledge it controls. Similarly, Barney (1991) added that in achieving sustainable competitive advantage, firm must motivate its human resources through effective human resources practi...
